He had known he would be, but his imagination hadn't prepared him for the reality. Completely, totally, utterly, alone. At first he'd thought there must be someone else. But there hadn't been. He'd looked. Everywhere. Not a sound other than the keening wind and the soft shirr of ash falling from the sky. Not a life left other than his. He ached for his children and their slow, painful deaths. He'd helped them as much as he had been able. Until they'd taken as much as he could give. Correction--as much as he *would* give. In the end, he refused to give his life for theirs. They were gone, and he was alone. What to do with the time remaining to him, before he starved to death? Travel? Dark, empty cities, and the rubble of monuments. Music? No one but himself to hear his playing, and no electricity to listen anyone else's. Books? Even vampire eyes gave out after a library full of the stories of other people's lives. So, by candlelight, he had started writing of his own life. And when he had finished that, he started writing of the lives of his children. And when he had finished that, he realized he'd been writing fanfic. ************************************************************* Sorry, it had to be done. :-) Scottie sss44@aol.com
