Original Sin--a Forever Knight story By April French Author's Note: This blurb of a story is based around the song 'Original Sin,' by Jim Steinman. There are a few versions floating around out there, but the one I used is the version used in the musical 'Dance of the Vampires.' Praise, comments, criticisms and kudos all gratefully accepted. Nasty flames will, um, be used to burn CDs. Yes, that was lame. This story will be archived at http://www.geocities.com/runeshard/fkficindex.html with all the others. Permission to archive is given to FKFIC, FKFIC2 and the FTP site. Anyone else must first bribe me with the Onion of Knowledge. ~~~ Original Sin (1/1) Paris: 1228 When Janette chose him, I was uncertain. Pretty and blond and gloriously drunk, he hardly seemed a suitable addition to our... little family. She wanted a companion, and I was more than happy to oblige her. And I? I wanted a son. I've been looking for an original sin One with a twist and a bit of a spin Janette was my daughter, and my favorite of them all. But a man feels incomplete until he has a son. An heir, as it were. Someone to mold in his own image, to pass on his knowledge to, to trust and confide in, in the way only a father can confide in his son. And since I've done all the old ones Til they've all been done in Now I'm just looking Then I'm gone with the wind I had been looking for him for a long time. Endlessly searching for an original sin But that... Crusader... A soldier of God. Much as I appreciated the irony, he was not... her type. What she saw in him, I could not see. He was not my type either. Not at first. I've been waiting for you Since you've been born I watch you secretly but not for long But when I saw him with Janette, I knew. Oh, yes. I knew. And since I know all your dreams I understand what you need And when I call you You must go where I lead Your dreams are so hungry It's time now to feed Half clad and reclined back against the divan, he rubbed at his lips and followed Janette with lusty eyes. "Where are you going?" he asked, his voice low and rough with desire. Janette said nothing. Then he saw me. "Who are you?" There was no suspicion, no worry, no confusion at this man who was intruding on his little tryst. "His name is LaCroix." So I bless you with my curse And encourage your endeavors You'll be better when you're worse You must die to live forever He was nearly dead, this sun-kissed man. The wars of the pretenders in Rome had sapped him of all... moral fiber. Through the base want in his eyes, I could see disillusionment and pain, the kind of pain that mortal men drown in drink, the kind that drives men to fall on their swords in despair. I will show you the depths of the night You can never be wrong Together I will take you to the end of the light My love is like a shadow on you... Yet there was still fire in him. Passion. Intelligence. He might yet be saved. I would save him. And since I know all your dreams I understand what you need And when I call you You must go where I lead I would take the place of the God who had betrayed him. would resurrect him, give him his... eternal reward. Your dreams are so hungry It's time now to feed. "Hello, Nicholas. We're going to be friends." I smiled. "For a long, long time." ~Finis--March 29th, 2003~ April French daomir_darkfell@yahoo.com ===== ~Forever Knight: The Sons of Lilith~ http://www.geocities.com/runeshard/fkficindex.html ~The Corvina~ http://www.geocities.com/runeshard/index.html "And we shall exist by amusing ourselves, by dreaming of monstrous loves and fantastic universes, by complaining and quarreling with the pretenses of the world..." --"The Flash of Lightning" by Arthur Rimbaud
