ã2004 LaCroix's Crush By: Cheryl Pillsbury The golden sun sat into the horizon with soft pastel colors followed close behind. The moon shined like a crystal ball, lighting up the midnight sky and the world below. Stars glistened from the moonlight and sparkled high above the treetops. A warm summer breeze gently blew by and danced upon the petals in a distant meadow. The leaves of surrounding trees rustled from the wind. Quietly rode the wind downward and a few people were sitting upon the benches reading, some were sleeping with newspapers rested upon their forehead and some walking hand in hand sharing the warm night with the heavenly sky. Off in the distance LaCroix strolled down the path and inhaled the sweet scents of the night. He carried a basket with a dark red cloth inside of it. Wrapped up were a bottle of wine and two crystal wine glasses. He noticed a bench off to his far left and a lovely young lady sitting there gazing upon him as he approached. Her eyes sparkled with joy and her smile a warm vision to his view as he returned the same sparkle to her. He approached her warmly and carefully sat by her side. They gazed into each other's eyes leaning close, and kissed each other very passionately. They exhaled quietly and licked their lips from the heat then smiled with a slight giggle. "Vivian," LaCroix whispered. "Lucien," Vivian said warmly. "How was your day?" LaCroix inquired. "Crazy and yours?" Vivian queried. LaCroix smiled, "The same," "I see, and the basket," Vivian inquired. "A surprise for you," LaCroix said glowing. LaCroix reached down uncovering the wine and the glasses. He handed her the glasses to hold while he opened the wine. Vivian jumped slightly by the noise of the cork as it popped. He carefully poured the wine into the glasses. He placed the bottle back into the basket and she handed him a glass. They looked to each other and touched glasses with a silent toast. Then sipped the wine and enjoyed the warm cozy night. ***** Meanwhile, a few miles down the road at the hospital parking lot; it was very quiet and softly lit. A young nurse came out of the emergency room doors and headed for her car. As she searched for her keys in her purse, a man jumped her from behind cupping her mouth, and held a knife to her throat. She dropped her things and he pulled her away into the bushes nearby. "Listen to me very carefully, no screaming, yelling, or fighting. You do, and you are dead. Got it." he demanded. "Hmm," she sobbed. "Okay," he whispered. He slowly let go of her mouth and glared at her. He slowly dragged the knife down her chin, her neck then down her chest between her breasts. "Please don't," she pleaded. "Not one word," He insisted. He raised his hands upward to her shoulders and shoved her backwards towards the ground. He knelt down and leaned on top of her. He slid the knife downward into her panties and cut them from her body. She sobbed quietly as he touched and probed her. He quickly cupped her mouth again and proceeded to rape her violently. She tried to fight and claw him but failed. As he finished; he reached up to her heart jamming the knife directly into it with a twist to it, and removed it. He wiped the blood on her clothes, stood up and brushed off his clothes. As he glared at her with a smile reached down and zipped up his fly. He slowly walked away through the woods, and tossed the knife aside. ***** LaCroix quietly entered the loft after taking Vivian home. He didn't want to wake Nick in case he was asleep; when he walked into the room he saw Nick lying on the couch asleep with the television still on. He quietly walked over carefully picking up the remote and turned it off. As he did, Nick woke up, and sat in a ball on the couch then saw LaCroix standing over him with a slight grin. Nick rubbed his eyes to focus on LaCroix as he strolled over and sat down in the chair by the couch. "Where were you?" Nick asked. "Out for a stroll," LaCroix replied Nick sighed, "Name?" "Excuse me," LaCroix said. "Name, she's written all over your face. Name?" Nick insisted. LaCroix smiled, "It's that obvious," "Name," Nick requested. "Miss. Vivian Brenner," LaCroix answered. "From where?" Nick questioned. LaCroix exhaled, "She's a nurse at the hospital." "Whoa, how long has this been going on?" Nick inquired. "Two months," LaCroix replied. "Play doctor yet?" Nick grinned. LaCroix inhaled, "Nicholas," "Well?" Nick asked firmly. "No," LaCroix whispered. "When do we meet her?" Nick inquired. LaCroix cleared his throat, "We?" "Molly and I," Nick replied. "Friday night, we'll have drinks here." LaCroix suggested. "Great, I'll check with Molly." Nick said warmly. "I'll mention it to Vivian." LaCroix replied. "Great, love her?" Nick questioned. LaCroix inhaled, "Goodnight Nicholas," "Night," Nick uttered with a slight laugh. As LaCroix made his way up the stairs to his room to rest, Nick stood up and gave his entire body a tremendous stretch. He stumbled into the kitchen to prepare breakfast before he tends to his work duties. ***** Back at the hospital, a car pulled in alongside of Sonia's. She stepped out of her car and locked the door. She walked over to the car and saw the bag lying on the ground. There were tracks leading from the car into the bushes. She slowly followed them into the bushes and witnessed a horrible sight. She screamed frightfully, reaching into her bag and pulled out her cell phone then called it in. As Nick finished dressing, and made his way back downstairs, a knock came from the door, and quickly opened with Paul strutting in. "Hey," Paul said. "Hey," Nick responded. "Are you ready?" Paul inquired. "Just about," Nick said. "Coffee?" Paul requested. "On the counter," Nick told him. "Cool," Paul smiled. Suddenly, Nick's phone rang. He quickly walked over and picked it up as he cleared his throat. "Knight," Nick announced. "Hey, Nick, is Paul there?" Reese inquired. "Yeah, what's up?" Nick asked. "At the hospital's emergency room entrance; a girl. Doctor Michaels is on her way with the lab." Reese instructed. "On our way," Nick said. "When you're done there, check in." Reese ordered. "Got it," Nick replied. Nick quickly hung up the phone grabbing his things off the table and waved to Paul. "Let's go, there's a body at the hospital." Nick said. Paul sighed, "Damn," They exited the loft and rode the elevator down to his car. He unlocked the doors and slowly climbed in. Nick quickly started the engine backing out of his slot and headed for the hospital. As he approached the parking area, they flashed their badges and carefully parked off to the side. They climbed out and he locked the doors. They strolled over to the car, looking around stepping up and over by the bush where the body was. Doctor Michaels just stood up and Nick stood at her side. "What you got so far?" Nick inquired. "Well, she was raped and stabbed in the heart. This person is very violent. When he stabbed her, he jammed it in and twisted it in a complete circle." Kathy informed him. "Rape for sure?" Paul asked. "She has no panties on and she has a few bruises on the inner thighs. Which are signs of forced entry?" Kathy answered. "I hate rape cases," Nick mumbled. "Same here," Paul agreed. "Put a file together and we'll be there later." Nick suggested. "All right," Kathy replied. "Thanks, can we look around?" Nick asked. "Use these," Kathy hinted with gloves. "Thanks," Nick said softly. Nick took the gloves from her and handed a pair to Paul. As they carefully walked around glancing upon her face and sensed the horror she must have suffered. He examined the surrounding area all around her. Paul stepped around the grounds and bushes. He noticed a slightly mangled bush. "Nick!" Paul yelled. "Coming," Nick replied. As Nick stood up leaving her behind; he met up with Paul while Dr. Michaels ordered her body ready for removal. Paul pointed to the disturbed area on the bush. They knelt down to examine it close. "What do you think?" Paul asked. "This was the way out. After he killed her and wiped the knife, he got up and stumbled this way." Nick answered. "Jack," Paul yelled for him. "Yes, sir," Jack said. "Paul, he went this way. Carefully look for possible prints." Nick replied. "Okay," Paul responded. They stood up and cautiously examined the ground for any possible print. Carefully moved sticks, pushed brush aside, and circled around the trees. Suddenly, a loud voice echoed from the distance. "Nick, Paul, over here!" Jack yelled. "What you got?" Nick asked. "Look, a knife," Jack said, pointing downward. "Awesome; go get a bag quick, and tell the Doc to hold up for this." Paul requested. "Okay," Jack answered. Jack quickly left to find Doctor Michaels and told her about what they had found. He also filled his request. "What do you think, Nick?" Paul asked. "I'm not sure," Nick replied puzzled. Nick slowly reached into his back pocket and pulled out his hanky. He shook it open, carefully picked up the knife, and took a very close look at it. "Hello, what's that?" Paul inquired. "What?" Nick asked. "Other side of the handle. It has two letters on it, I think." Paul said. Nick quickly turned the knife around and saw what Paul had spotted. "I can't tell if it's covered in blood." Nick said. "Here's the bag, and she's waiting." Jack reported. "Here you go, and thanks." Nick said politely. "No problem," Jack answered. "Run that back," Paul implied. "Yes, Paul, later," Jack said. Jack quickly left them and returned to the Doc who was waiting patiently for him. Nick and Paul removed their gloves and tossed them into a nearby trashcan. They slowly made their way to the hospital parking lot and saw an officer standing by the victim's car. "Tony, has the car been looked at yet?" Nick inquired. "No," Tony answered. "Where's the purse?" Paul asked. "In a bag, on top of the trunk." Tony informed him. "Damn, got her name?" Nick asked. "It's Sonia Mason," Tony replied. "Thanks, let's go," Nick said. They strolled over to the emergency room doors and entered the hospital. They strolled up to the desk. "Hi, Detective Coletti and I'm Detective Knight. May we speak with the supervisor?" Nick requested. "One moment," she whispered. She stared at Nick while she called for the supervisor to come down, "Detective Knight," "Yeah," Nick replied. "He'll be right down. Excuse me for asking, but is your first name Nicholas?" She asked. "Yeah, why?" Nick questioned. "You look exactly how Lucien described." Vivian said. "Vivian Brenner?" Nick queried. "Yes," Vivian smiled. "Hello," Paul grinned. "Sorry, my cousin's girlfriend." Nick said. "Whoa, small world," Paul stepped in. "You've been a secret until last night." Nick implied. "He is the secretive type." Vivian said. Nick smiled, "I'm glad to meet you." Suddenly, a doctor appeared and quietly cleared his throat to announce his presence. "Excuse me, can I help you?" he asked. "Yes, is there some place private where we can talk?" Nick requested. "My office, follow me," He suggested. They closely followed him through the corridor to the office five doors down. They entered and he closed the door behind him. "I'm Doctor David Garrattison, is there a problem?" he asked. "Yes sir; did you know a Sonia Mason?" Nick inquired. "She was my OR nurse, why?" David asked nervously. "She was raped, and killed last night in the woods, just outside these doors." Paul informed him. "No," David whispered. David slowly sat down in shock at the horror of the news he had just received. "I'm sorry, Doctor, but do you know of anyone who would do this to her?" Nick questioned. "No, as far as I know, she wasn't dating anyone. She was the quiet, shy type." David described her to them. "I see; were you two…?" Paul hinted. "No, we talked a few times. She was my OR nurse." David repeated. "What did you talk about?" Nick asked. "She was thinking of moving to Pediatrics." David expressed. "We're very sorry. Here's my card if you think of anything that might help us." Nick implied. "Yeah, stop him before he does it again." David pleaded. "I will, thank you," Nick said softly. Nick and Paul slowly exited his office and strolled back down the corridor then outside to the parking lot. They walked to Nick's car and he unlocked the doors then slowly climbed in. Paul placed his notebook into his pocket and noticed Nick was not moving. "Nick, you okay?" Paul inquired. "No," Nick uttered. "What's bugging you?" Paul asked. "I hate rape cases; it makes no sense." Nick replied. "I hear you, where to?" Paul inquired. "Forensics," Nick said softly. "Drinks later?" Paul suggested. "Definitely," Nick said firmly. "Coolness," Paul replied. Nick started the engine, carefully backed out and exited the parking lot. He quickly drove to the Forensics building. He pulled the car up along the curb and turned the engine off. They carefully climbed out and he locked the doors. They quickly ran up the stairs and into Doctor Michaels Lab. They quietly opened the door, and saw her just finishing up then covered the corpse's face. Paul stood on one side and Nick stood by her side. "Hey, Kathy," Paul said. "Nick, Paul," Kathy replied. "Anything?" Nick inquired. "Well, the blood analysis isn't in yet but I have one clue for you; maybe two. Come over this way." Kathy said. Doctor Michaels lifted the sheet to expose the inner left thigh to show Nick what she had found, "Look at that," "What's that?' Nick questioned. "Well, not to get personal. Our guy is left handed." Kathy explained. "What?" Paul said. "When he was ready for intercourse, the ring he wore left this impression in the skin. R.E., I think," Kathy told them. "Good eyes," Nick commented. "And this mark up around the mouth area," Kathy pointed to. "Yeah," Paul replied. "He cupped her mouth to keep her from yelling and bruised his fingerprints into the skin." Kathy informed them. "Sick," Nick mumbled. "True, the knife wound appears to be a Boning knife." Kathy said. "Fishing knife?" Paul inquired. "Yes, I'm guessing, but it seems, just as he's about to ejaculate, he jams the knife in for extra satisfaction. To ensure their dead, he turns it. When he's done, he stands up, wipes the knife clean." Kathy briefed them. "What about the knife that was found?" Paul asked. "Still waiting," Kathy answered. "I hate this," Nick said with anger. "Same here," Doc agreed. "Anything else?" Nick inquired. "Not yet; I'll call you when the rest comes in." Doc suggested. "Thanks, night," Nick said as he turned to leave. Nick and Paul slowly left the lab and strolled down the stairs to Nick's car. He unlocked the doors; they slowly climbed in and closed the doors. "Where to?" Paul inquired. "Home, I'm beat, and I need a beer." Nick replied. "True, drop me at the station, my truck is there." Paul requested. "Okay," Nick said. Nick started the engine and carefully peeled away from the curb. He dropped Paul at the station and continued on his way home. He slowly parked the car and turned the engine off. He climbed out and locked the doors. He stumbled into the elevator and rode up to his place. As he entered the room; he saw LaCroix asleep in the chair. He quietly walked in and sat down on the couch. He removed his shoes and jacket, and tossed it to the other side of the couch. He glanced at him for a few moments and carefully reached over touching his knee. "LaCroix," Nick spoke softly "Nicholas," LaCroix said waking up. "Are you all right?" Nick asked. "Yes, just tired," LaCroix replied. Nick grinned, "Why are you so tired? What have you been doing?" "Vivian," LaCroix whispered. "I met her today," Nick said. "Oh," LaCroix stunned. "At the hospital," Nick explained. "Are you injured?" LaCroix asked concerned. Nick sighed, "No, one of the nurses was found dead this morning." "Oh my," LaCroix replied sadly. "She's very nice and pretty." Nick complimented. "Thank you," LaCroix smiled. "Need something to eat or drink, you look a little pale?" Nick inquired. "A little wine from the green bottle," LaCroix requested. Nick snickered, "Okay, that's what love does to you." "Love?" LaCroix repeated. "You're in love," Nick told him. LaCroix scoffed, "Nonsense," "Why?" Nick asked. "Trust me," LaCroix implied. Nick grinned, "Well, you're not sleeping well, forgetting to eat or drink. Sounds like love to me." "Nicholas," LaCroix sighed. "Well?" Nick inquired. "The wine," LaCroix recommended. "Here," Nick whispered. Nick handed him the wine, but unknown to him, that the green bottles contained blood. LaCroix took the glass drinking it down and savored the essence of it. "Feel better?" Nick inquired. "Some," LaCroix answered. "Time for bed, let's go," Nick suggested strongly. Nick helped LaCroix to his feet strolling up the stairs and Nick escorted him to his room. He opened the door and he sat down on the bed. "Need anything?" Nick inquired. "I'll be fine, night, Nicholas, thank you." LaCroix replied. "I'll be in my room if you need me." Nick told him. "All right," LaCroix whispered. "Night, LaCroix," Nick said softly. Nick exited LaCroix's room closing the door behind him and made his way to his room. He entered the room and stripped down to his pants. He grabbed his lounge pants off the edge of the bed, and walked into the bathroom. He placed his soiled clothes into the hamper and turned slightly. A few moments passed; a flush. He put on the lounge pants and stumbled to his bed. He pulled down the covers and sat down. He removed his watch and set the alarm on his clock. He crawled into bed covering up very cozy, and turned the light off. As he snuggled into bed, he drifted off to sleep. As the sun rose high in the deep blue sky, the sunlight shined through the blinds of Nick's room. It slowly traveled from his feet to his face. He quickly rolled over then the alarm went off. He stretched over and turned it off. Just then, his phone rang and grabbed that as well. "Knight," Nick answered. "Morning," Paul said. Nick yawned, "Hey, Paul," "What's your agenda?" Paul asked. "Laundry, forensics, and Molly," Nick briefed him. "Nice," Paul replied. "LaCroix is bringing Vivian by tonight for a casual visit. I need a bottle of a nice wine." Nick told him. "Want some company; I need laundry done." Paul suggested. "Sure," Nick replied. "Be there in thirty," Paul told him. Nick coughed slightly, "Cool," "Ciao," Paul said. Nick leaned over and hung up the phone. He sat up and rubbed his eyes then tossed the covers aside then stood up. Gave his body a tremendous stretch and stumbled into the bathroom. A few moments passed; a flush. He turned slightly and started the shower. Carefully climbed in and allowed the heat of the water massage his tired muscles. He finished his golden hair and turned the water off. Stepped out then grabbed his towel and dried his entire body. He wrapped the towel around his waist walked over to his dresser and picked out casual clothes for the day. As Nick exited his room jogging down the stairs, a knock came from the door. Paul casually strolled in and saw Nick on the stairs. "Hey," Paul said. "Hey, coffee?" Nick inquired. "Oh yeah," Paul said eagerly. "Grab me one," Nick requested. "Sure, one thing about this case bugs me." Paul said. "What's that?" Nick asked. "Why at the hospital parking lot?" Paul questioned. "Yeah, I know. I came up with that thought last night." Nick said. "And?" Paul inquired. "He works there," Nick suggested. "Okay," Paul replied. "Rape is about power, not sex. Maybe he was rejected and he got even." Nick suggested. "True, however, why there? If he works there why on home grounds?" Paul asked. "Don't know," Nick answered. "I just wish we had more." Paul said. "That's why we're stopping at the lab. To see if the rest of the test results came back yet. I want to end this before someone else gets hurt." Nick told him. "I agree; here's your coffee to travel, let's go." Paul said. "Lead on," Nick replied. Nick stepped over to the table grabbing his things and they quickly left the loft. They rode the elevator down to his car. He unlocked the doors and they climbed in. He placed his coffee in the cup holder next to Paul's and started the engine. He quickly backed out and headed for the Laundromat. Nick handed Paul some money while Paul ran in and dropped it off. They drove to the Forensics building. Nick parked the car along the curb and turned the engine off. They climbed out of the car and ran up the stairs to the lab. As they entered; they saw Doctor Michaels sitting at her desk with a cup of coffee, a pile of folders and paperwork. They quietly walked over and waited for her to respond. Suddenly, she looked up and saw them there. She picked up a file, opening it, and read it to them. "Okay, the blood on the knife was the victim's and we wiped the blood off the letters you found, we only got the letter R. The second letter was filed off. We took a picture of the ring imprint from her leg, no luck. It's definitely an R; the second one was impossible to read. Between the blood and the semen found on her, we thought that would give us something." Kathy briefed them. "And?" Paul asked. "We ran it against the Sex Offenders file, nothing. He must be new which makes it harder to nail him." Kathy replied. "Nothing," Nick said frustrated. "Not even under her fingernails. He must have worn gloves the whole time. Zero prints and zero file." Doc answered. "Damn," Nick whispered. "I agree," Paul replied. "Any ideas would be a great help?" Doc suggested. "None at the moment." Nick said. "Try square one and maybe you'll find something. It's worth a try." Paul hinted. "I'll call you," Doc replied. "Thanks, let's go its late." Nick replied. Nick and Paul quickly left the lab and Doctor Michaels began a new search. They ran down the steps and over to his car and unlocked the doors. They climbed in and closed them. They sat there very still and quiet. "What now?" Paul asked. "Wine, a good night's rest, and back to the hospital." Nick said. "Why?" Paul asked. "The only clue we have is the letter R. Maybe we can get a list of employee names that start with an R." Nick suggested. "Cool, that will take a week or so." Paul said frustrated. "It's a start," Nick said sadly. Nick started the engine and peeled away. He dropped Paul off at the station. He put the car in park and turned to Paul. "Okay, get Reese up to date and I'll see you in the morning." Nick suggested. "Cool, have fun tonight." Paul told him. "Thanks," Nick whispered. Paul slowly climbed out of his car and closed the door. He ran up the stairs and into the building. Nick took the car out of park and drove to Molly's apartment. He pulled into the parking lot and saw a space near the door. He turned the engine off and stepped out locking the doors. He strolled up the path and entered the building. He walked down to Molly's door and lightly knocked then waited. The door slowly opened with Molly still in sweat clothes. She stepped aside and Nick passed by as she closed it. She warmly approached him and wrapped her arms around his neck; he leaned close to her and they kissed very passionately. They both sighed after with a warm glance into each other's eyes. They strolled into the living room and sat down on the couch close together holding hands. "It's been awhile since I've seen you." Molly said. "Sorry, new case and catching up on paperwork." Nick explained. "Good; how's your cousin, LaCroix?" Molly asked. "Good; he too has a girlfriend." Nick shared. "Wonderful," Molly smiled. "He's in love, but won't admit it." Nick said laughing. Molly grinned, "Most men don't," "Hey," Nick said. Molly laughed, "Except for you," "Thank you, why don't you go and get ready? We'll pick up the wine on the way." Nick suggested. "Okay," Molly said. "Need help?" Nick queried. "Always, but later; it's rude to be late." Molly told him. "True," Nick said pouting. Molly stood up leaning over and kissed Nick warmly. She left him there strolling down to her bedroom and proceeded to get dressed. She exited her room posing in the hallway and cleared her throat to draw his attention. He quickly turned his head and saw Molly wearing a midnight blue blouse with her pale blue jeans. Shining like the stars high in the heavens. He smiled from ear to ear. "Well?" Molly asked. "That's not helping. I don't know if I can wait until later." Nick said stunned. "Thank you, and yes you can. You're a strong guy." Molly expressed. "Yes," Nick replied sadly. "Nick," Molly said. "Let's go get the wine. The cool breeze will help you to relax." "Ouch," Nick said squeezing his body slightly. As they left her home and drove to pick up a wonderful wine, LaCroix was at the hospital picking up Vivian. As she stepped through the doors, a young man followed her staring at her and LaCroix took notice of this action. "Hello, Love," Vivian said. "Hello, who was that gentlemen?" LaCroix inquired. "One of the orderlies, Ron somebody," Vivian said. "Oh," LaCroix whispered. "Lucien, I'm in love with you; don't worry." Vivian said warmly. LaCroix bowing his head, "Really, I never thought it possible for me." "It is," Vivian told him. "I'm truly," LaCroix paused. "Blessed," Vivian implied. LaCroix smiled, "All right," "Anything is possible if you truly want it." Vivian replied. "True," LaCroix sighed. "I'm yours, forever," Vivian told him. LaCroix smiled, "Forever?" "Yes," Vivian said holding his head. They gazed into each other's eyes and passionately kissed each other while Ron observed from his rearview mirror. LaCroix and Vivian held each other and slowly walked towards Nick's home. LaCroix and Vivian arrived as Nick and Molly pulled in. He turned the engine off and they climbed out. He locked the doors and they walked by LaCroix's side. "Vivian Brenner, this is Nicholas Knight, my cousin and his lovely lady, Molly Ebourn." LaCroix introduced her. "Hello," Vivian said shyly. "Let's go inside; I got the wine." Nick said. "Splendid," LaCroix replied. They all strolled into the elevator and rode up to Nick's home. Nick unlocked the door, and let everyone pass by then closed the door. LaCroix escorted Vivian to the table in the dining area. Molly grabbed four wine glasses on her way. Nick stepped in and stood by Molly. He carefully popped the cork and poured the wine for every one. Molly handed the glasses to them and gave a silent toast. They sat down around the table and enjoyed the evening. "So, Vivian how did you and my cousin meet?" Nick asked. "After work, I always take a stroll in the park to clear my head and one night I was sitting on the bench reading and he approached me." Vivian answered with a slight grin. "Really?" Nick replied glaring at LaCroix. "We discussed the book and it began from there." Vivian replied. "Smooth move," Nick said softly. "What?" Vivian inquired. "Just kidding," Nick said with a slight laugh. "How long have you two been together?" Vivian asked. "Almost a year; eight months or so," Molly jumped in. "Wonderful," Vivian said looking to LaCroix. The hours passed as they laughed and talked. LaCroix felt the sun slowly rising. Therefore, he hated to ruin the fun, but interrupted with a slight clearing of the throat. "All right, it was a pleasure; so excuse me while I escort the young lady home." LaCroix announced. "Thanks for coming and it was wonderful meeting you." Nick said with a gentle kiss to her hand. "Let's do it again real soon." Molly added. "Definitely; I'm glad we became friends." Vivian said softly. "True, goodnight, and be good." Nick said quietly. "You, too," LaCroix suggested in return. "Oh yeah," Nick smiled. LaCroix and Vivian slowly left the loft leaving Nick and Molly alone. Nick looked deep into Molly's eyes and just displayed his boyish grin. "Yes," Molly said. "It's later," Nick expressed warmly. "Are my clothes still here?" Molly inquired. "Yes," Nick said softly. "Take me to the Gallery in the morning?" Molly requested. "Yes," Nick said feeling aroused. "Lunch?" Molly said, feeling slightly hot. "Yes," Nick getting hotter. "Let's go," Molly said eagerly. Nick escorted Molly up the stairs and down the hall to his bedroom. Molly casually strolled into the bathroom. A few moments later, a flush, and she came out only wearing her blue shirt. Nick's eyes widened and were impressed. Nick also walked into the bathroom closing the door, and a few moments later the same; a flush. He strolled out in just his lounge pants. Molly had pulled the blankets down and Nick stood very close to her. They embraced each other, and kissed warmly and crawled into bed making love all night long. LaCroix and Vivian had arrived at her home. They strolled down the corridor to her front door. She looked up into his eyes and felt warm all over. LaCroix gently stroked her soft cheek with the back of his hand and they too kissed each other affectionately. Vivian sighed in satisfaction of what they just shared. "I love you, Lucien," Vivian expressed. "I love you, dear Vivian," LaCroix shared in return. "Will you come to the Raven? I have prepared a special night for you." LaCroix inquired. "Love to, eight o'clock?" Vivian suggested. "All right," LaCroix smiled. "I had a wonderful time tonight. Molly and your cousin are very nice people." Vivian said. LaCroix smiled, "Yes, they are," "Thank you once again; I really need to sleep." Vivian replied. "Tomorrow night then, night, Vivian," LaCroix said softly. Vivian smiled, "Night, Lucien," They warmly kissed each other goodnight and she opened her door then closed it with the lock on. LaCroix walked down the hall to the outside. He looked around and took to flight. He arrived at the Raven knowing Nick and Molly were together. He entered through the back entrance and walked over to the red handle on a huge barrel. He filled a glass with pure blood began sipping it as Scott entered the room. Scott quietly cleared his throat to draw his attention. "Scott," LaCroix said. "LaCroix, this is unusual for you." Scott replied. "What do you mean?" LaCroix asked. Scott sighed, "Love," "Yes," LaCroix whispered. "I'm glad, does she know?" Scott inquired. LaCroix sighed, "No, not yet." "Are you planning to tell her?" Scott questioned. "Soon, the club will be closed tomorrow night. I have arranged a special evening for the young lady." LaCroix told him. "Just becareful," Scott recommended. "I will," LaCroix whispered. Scott exhaled, "Okay, later LaCroix," "Good day," LaCroix replied. Scott quietly left LaCroix to his drink and returned to the basement. LaCroix placed the glass down and stared at it as though he was in another time and place. After a long night of love and rest, Nick took Molly to work and drove to the station. He drove along the left of the building and parked his car. He strutted up the stairs and made his way to the desk. He turned the computer on and opened the file. Suddenly Paul walked in grabbing a chair and sat down by his side. He removed some papers from his pocket and cleared his throat. "What's that?" Nick asked. Paul inhaled, "The list," "That was fast," Nick replied. "Oh yeah," Paul said. "Well?" Nick inquired. "Sadly, three people with R names." Paul answered. "Ready," Nick said. "Okay, Robert Samuels, Richard Kinston, and a Ronald Dawes," Paul read to him. "Okay," Nick sighed. Nick nervously hit the enter button and waited. Suddenly, the screen came up with three words, "No file found." "Damn," Nick replied. "We need more info," Paul said. "Let's go see if the doctor will volunteer to help." Nick said. "Cool," Paul replied. "Molly and I are doing lunch, care to join in?" Nick inquired. "Cool, I'll call Carla and have her meet us there." Paul told him. "Do that on the way," Nick said. They quickly exited the station and headed for Nick's car. They climbed in and he started the engine. He slowly pulled out and headed for the hospital. ***** Meanwhile at the hospital, Vivian had just finished filling her medicine cups for the patients when Ron came waltzing in. She ignored him at first, but he was glaring at her and she felt uneasy. "Hello, lovely lady," Ron said glaring. "Hi Ron," Vivian said hesitating. "Are you busy tonight? Maybe we can do a movie and a dinner?" Ron inquired. "I'm sorry Ron; I'm going steady with someone, and I love him very much." Vivian told him. "You deserve better," Ron insinuated. "What?" Vivian asked, slightly scared. "I saw you two; he's too old and stiff. I'm much better." Ron said. "Goodbye, Ron and the answer is NO." Vivian said firmly. Ron inhaled, "That's not nice." "I'm sorry, but I need to get to work." Vivian replied. "I will see you later," Ron said with a slight threat. "Go away, and leave me alone, please," Vivian pleaded. Ron stepped aside to let her pass. As she started down the hall, she bumped into Nick and Paul. Nick noticed she was a little shaken up. He stayed with her and sent Paul to do what was needed. "Vivian, it's okay, I'm here. What happened?" Nick asked. "I…" Vivian started. "Calm down, and tell me what happened?" Nick questioned. Suddenly, Ron exited the room and stared at Nick holding Vivian; Nick took close notice of him and he quickly left walking down the hall. "He asked me out; I said No, and he didn't like it. And," Vivian explained. "It's okay; want me to talk to him?" Nick asked. "No, that might make it worse." Vivian said shaking. "Well, you told a cop and a friend. Are you seeing LaCroix tonight?" Nick inquired. "After I deliver this, I'm meeting him at the Raven." Vivian told him. "Tell you what, you deliver the cart and I'll take you there." Nick replied. "Thanks, I would like that." Vivian complied. "I'll be at the front desk." Nick said. "Thanks; it'll only take a few minutes." Vivian said. "Don't rush, I'll wait." Nick replied. "Thanks," Vivian whispered. Vivian slowly walked away as Paul arrived holding a few files. He saw her leave and tapped Nick on the arm. "She okay," Paul inquired. "Some guy bothered her; I told her we'd take her to the Raven." Nick said. "Cool, look at what I got." Paul said proudly. "Great, are there pictures?" Nick inquired. "Yeah," Paul answered. "Let's see," Nick requested. Paul handed him one file at a time, but the third one gave him a slight jolt. He slowly flipped through the papers, and the backs of the picture. He quickly walked down the hall to the front desk, and pulled out his picture then showed it to the nurse plus his name. "I need to know the hours he worked since last week." Nick requested. "One moment," She replied. "Yo, Nick," Paul said quietly. "That's the guy that bothered Vivian." Nick said. "Here you go and he bothers everyone." She informed them. "What does he say?" Nick asked. "He'll ask you out and if you say no; he has a fit." She whispered. "Did he harass Sonia?" Nick questioned. "Yes, he even threatened her." She whispered. "Do you know how?" Nick inquired. "No," she answered. "Thank you," Nick replied politely. Nick cautiously stepped away so Ron would not see them talking. They stood by a pole waiting for Vivian. She slowly appeared and they walked up to meet her. She finished fixing her jacket and looked to Nick. "I'll check out," Vivian told him. "Feeling better?" Nick asked concerned. "Some, Lucien is what I need now." Vivian said with a slight smile. "I understand," Nick said. "Let's deliver this young lady to the warm arms that await her." Paul said with a grin. "Hey," Nick said. "Too corny," Paul implied. "No, try it on Carla." Nick suggested. "Cool," Paul replied. Nick took Vivian gently by the waist and escorted her out of the hospital with Paul behind them. They strolled outside to Nick's car. Ron was sitting a few feet away in his car to follow them. Nick opened her door and she climbed in. Paul stepped in while Nick walked to his side and climbed in as well. He placed the key into the ignition and started the car. He carefully pulled out driving to the exit unaware of Ron's presence, and headed for the Raven. He pulled up along the curb and parked the car. He turned slightly to face her. "Are you sure you're okay?" Nick asked. "I am now, thanks for everything." Vivian said warmly. "Anytime," Nick whispered. Vivian carefully exited the car, but Nick made sure she got inside safe and sound. As Vivian entered the club, it was completely lit in soft pale yellow lights, flowers everywhere, the sweet scents of candles burning and a silver tray on the bar with a bottle of champagne and two glasses. Off to the side of the bowl was fresh strawberries and soft piano music in the background. As she reached the bottom step, LaCroix strolled out taking her by the hand and began to slow dance her across the floor. They tenderly embraced each other with a very warm kiss. "Lucien," Vivian whispered. "Vivian, you're here a little early." LaCroix said pleased. "Nick gave me a ride." Vivian told him. LaCroix smiled, "Nicholas, I see." "They were at the hospital and he offered to bring me to you." Vivian explained. "I'm pleased," LaCroix smiled. "He's very nice," Vivian expressed happily. "Yes he is. I have a little surprise for you." LaCroix replied. "For me, why?" Vivian inquired. LaCroix exhaled, "Because I love you and I wish to seal our love with something special." "And I love you," Vivian whispered softly. LaCroix carefully reached into his pocket pulling out a red velvet box and handed it to her. She smiled with shock and slowly opened the box. Her face amazed by the vision, and a single tear appeared in her eye. Inside was a gold chain with a gold heart attached to it with a small diamond. LaCroix took the box, gently removing the necklace from the box and placed it around her neck. He took a step back to gaze upon it and her. She slowly reached up to touch it leaping into his arms and held him tight. LaCroix walked over to the bar with Vivian very close to his side. He picked up two strawberries placed them into the glasses and poured the champagne over them. He handed one to Vivian and he took the other. They touched glasses and made a silent toast to each other. They danced and romanced all night long. ***** Nick and Paul were sitting on the couch with the files and two beers. They finished a pizza and the television echoed in the distance. Nick took a gulp of beer and leaned his head to stretch. Paul saw him and he cleared his throat to help him. "Hey, Nick, what's the problem?" Paul inquired. "Rape cases disturb me to no end." Nick said stressed. Paul sighed, "Why?" "I can only imagine how the woman felt being forced and tortured." Nick said. "True," Paul replied. "Okay, this guy Ron, he's the one that bothered Vivian." Nick said. "We ran his name, and no file." Paul replied. Nick rubbing his face, "I know, but we're missing something," As they finished that thought, Nick's phone rang which gave them each a huge jolt. He reached up behind him and grabbed the phone. "Knight," Nick replied. "Molly," Molly said. "Hey," Nick smiled. "Hey," Molly repeated. "What can I do for you?" Nick asked. "A toy store," Molly requested. Nick puzzled, "Toy store?" "It's my nephew's birthday and I need a gift." Molly told him. "There's a small one in the strip-mall down the street from you." Nick explained. "Thank you, dinner?" Molly inquired. "Maybe," Nick whispered. "Dessert?" Molly replied. "Definitely," Nick grinned widely. "When?" Molly inquired. "Friday, pending," Nick answered. Molly exhaled, "Deal, love you," "Love you too," Nick said warmly. Nick slowly hung up the phone all smiles, but noticed Paul's face. He sat there like a statue, not moving. Nick slightly hit his leg, no movement. He waved a hand before his eyes, still no sign of life. Suddenly, Paul got up from the couch, and ran to the computer and danced upon the keys while Nick just watched him. The printer began running grabbing the paper and ran back to the couch and starred at Nick. "What?" Nick asked. "The reason there was no file was because his crime was done as a juvenile." Paul said excited. "Damn," Nick sighed. "Ronald Dawes was arrested at the age of sixteen for sexual assault on a minor and was sent to juvey hall." Paul read to him. "Okay, but we don't have anything to pin him with." Nick replied. "Where's the case file?" Paul asked. "On the table," Nick inquired. Paul quickly leaned over grabbing the file from the table and sat back down. He opened the file and searched very carefully. "Okay, we have a knife with a scratched letter. However, a ring with a positive R on it, but the last letter is not clear. No prints or samples." Paul read. "Wait. Doc found semen on the girl. Would they have that from the kid case still on file?" Nick asked. "Call her," Paul said jumpy. Nick quickly reached for the phone and used his speed dial for Doctor Michaels. He sat and waited patiently for her to answer. "Forensics," Kathy said. "Kathy, would they still have semen samples on file; if the crime was committed by a minor?" Nick asked. "Possible," Kathy said slightly hesitant. "Run the sample you got with the Ronald Dawes, and call me back." Nick requested. "Got it, but it may take awhile." Kathy explained. "Okay, no problem," Nick replied. Nick quickly hung up the phone and looked to Paul who was slowly fading fast asleep. "You sleep here, and I'll see you in the morning." Nick said yawning. "Cool, night," Paul said softly. "Night," Nick said standing up. Nick slowly stood up making his way to the staircase and climbed up to the hall to his bedroom. He walked over to the bathroom, a few moments passed; a flush. He stripped down and put his lounge pants on that were on the rack. He stumbled out over to the bed. He pulled the covers down and sat down. He removed his watch, and placed it on the nightstand then set the alarm. He crawled into bed and turned off the light. He slowly drifted off to sleep. The sun had risen high in the sky as though it was all pink with blue highlights; an outline of gold tinsel on the edges a pure heavenly sky without words; pure poetry. As Nick rolled onto his back and laid his arm over his head, the alarm went off, and stretched over then turned it off. He rubbed his eyes of sleep, slowly sitting up and tossed the blankets aside. He stretched his upper body and slowly stood up. He stumbled into the bathroom, and a few minutes passed; a flush. He slightly turned and ran a shower. Carefully stepped in and quietly stood under the water. He slowly washed and massaged his golden hair and reached down turning the water off. He carefully stepped out taking hold of a towel and dried his entire body. He wrapped the towel around his waist and stumbled into his room by the dresser. He grabbed some work clothes and proceeded to get dressed. He strolled out of his room then downstairs. As Nick approached the bottom step, he noticed Paul still sound asleep on the couch. He quietly stepped into the kitchen and ran cold water on his fingers then slowly walked up to Paul lightly touching his neck. Paul literally jumped up and looked around him. He quickly looked behind him and saw Nick with a devilish grin upon his face. "That was cold," Paul said shivering. Nick laughing, "Yeah, it was; go shower, and I'll make the coffee." "Passing a hint?" Paul inquired. "Yeah," Nick whispered. "That's cruel," Paul said pouting. "Sorry," Nick whispered. "Need clothes," Paul requested. "Dresser, bottom drawer," Nick told him. Paul said shaking slightly, "Thanks," Paul slowly stumbled over to the stairs climbing up and walked into Nick's room to clean up then got dressed. Meanwhile Nick was in the kitchen fixing the coffee maker. He pulled out two mugs and placed them on the counter. He poured himself some coffee strolling into the living room sat upon the couch and waited for Paul. He turned the television on to watch the news. Paul had just finished his shower walking over to his dresser and grabbed what would fit. As he finished zipping the pants, he poked around a little strolling out and jogged down the stairs inhaling the sweet scent of fresh brewed coffee. He stumbled over to the counter grabbing his mug filling it with coffee, and sat down next to Nick on the couch. "You look good," Nick said. "Thank you, what's on the agenda for today?" Paul inquired. Nick paused, "Breakfast and a hospital visit," "Why?" Paul asked. "I need to meet this Ronald Dawes. He bothered Vivian." Nick said, a little angry. "Think it's him," Paul inquired. "Yeah, the other two didn't have contact with Sonia or Vivian, plus his minor record." Nick replied. "True," Paul replied. "Also see if he has a ring on his left hand with two letters on it." Nick suggested. "Cool, where to eat?" Paul asked. "Doesn't matter, let's get going." Nick said eagerly. As they left the loft for the day, over at the apartment complex a nurse was banging on a door. No answer; she used her key, and entered the apartment. She saw the place was a complete disaster. She carefully stepped around everything and entered the bedroom. She let out a tremendous horrified scream. She saw her friend bound and gagged on the bed. Blood everywhere and she was completely nude. She shockingly backed out of the room running for the phone, and called the police. ***** Meanwhile back at the hospital Nick and Paul just found Ron at the desk poking around. Paul reached up tapping him on the shoulder and waved him over with his hand to the nearest corner. Paul on one side and Nick on the other. "Who are you?" Ron asked. "Detective Coletti and I'm Detective Knight. Ronald Dawes?" Nick inquired. "Yeah," Ron answered. "Did you know Sonia?" Paul questioned. "A nice girl, but a little snobbish." Ron described to them. "Did you ever ask her out?" Nick asked. "Yeah, she said no." Ron mumbled. "Got mad?" Paul inquired. "You got a warrant?" Ron asked. "I can get one," Nick replied strongly. "Bye," Ron said with a smile. "Got something to hide?" Paul said loudly. "Look, I knew the girl; she said no, her loss, go away." Ron said directly. "One more thing," Nick suggested. "That is?" Ron inquired. "Word of advice, stay away from Vivian, got it?" Nick ordered. "No problem," Ron smiled widely. Ron just looked at him and walked away down the hall. They just watched him walk away then suddenly Nick's phone rang. He reached into his pocket and pulled it out. He quickly ran outside to be safe with Paul close behind. "Knight," Nick announced. "Got another one at, 213 Lomar Drive, #126." Reese instructed him. "On our way," Nick said. "What is it?" Paul asked. "Another one, let's go," Nick replied. Nick and Paul quickly ran for the car unlocking the doors and they climbed in. He started the engine and Paul turned the lights and siren on. He quickly drove to the address and parked along the curb. They climbed out and strolled up the path then inside. They approached the door showing their badges and carefully walked around. Jack slowly walked up and stood by his side. "What you got?" Nick asked. "The victim is inside on the bed. She was tortured and raped." Jack told him. "Thanks, Kathy here?" Paul inquired. "She's inside, before you go in, very bad scene." Jack expressed. "Thanks," Nick whispered. Paul led the way in with Nick close by. They slowly strolled in, and Nick cautiously approached the bed and his eyes were filled with horror. Paul caught a glimpse of the woman's face. "Oh my, God, it's Vivian." Nick said. "You know her?" Doc inquired. "Yeah, it's my cousin's girlfriend." Nick answered. "I'm sorry," Kathy said. "Paul," Nick whispered. "Go man, I'll be at your place later, its okay." Paul told him. "I need a few," Nick said feeling ill. "Come on," Paul said pulling him outside. They slowly left the room and stood just outside the door. Paul placed a hand around his upper back to comfort him. Nick stared off into a daze. A slight tear rolled down his face, the pain filled his entire body. "Can you drive or do you want me to take you there?" Paul inquired. "You need to stay and finish here, and help me through this." Nick pleaded. "Always buddy. Jack will drive you, and I'll bring your car and beer later." Paul told him. "Thanks," Nick whispered softly. "Yo, Jack; give my man a ride home, now. Cap, I'll be back in a minute." Paul requested. "Okay," Jack answered. They slowly strolled out of the apartment and down the hall. They exited the building and headed for a cruiser. Paul leaned over opening the door for him and helped him into the cruiser then closed his door. Jack quickly drove away from the scene and took Nick home. Paul stumbled back inside. Reese met up with him at the door. "What's up with Nick?" Reese asked. "I need him on this case." Paul insisted. "No problem, talk," Reese requested. "That's his cousin's girlfriend," Paul briefed him. "Damn," Reese hissed angrily. "Oh yeah, let's do this; I told Nick I'd bring him his car and get a beer." Paul replied. "Stay the night, if you can, to make sure he's okay and he can handle this." Reese suggested. "Always," Paul said proudly. Doctor Michaels strolled out of the bedroom removing her glasses and a gurney took the body out in a black body bag. She strolled up to Reese and Paul. "What you got?" Paul asked. "Same guy, same m.o. except this time she got some skin tissue. He's now a marked man. The rest I'll tell you later." Doc explained. "Thanks, good job." Reese said. Nick sadly stumbled into his home, LaCroix sitting in a chair reading a book and the windows closed. He looked up seeing Nick and sensed something terribly wrong. He closed his book standing up, and placed the book in the chair. He slowly walked up to Nick and saw the pain in his eyes. He placed a hand on each shoulder to comfort him not knowing what awaited him. "Nicholas, what's wrong?" LaCroix asked. "LaCroix, it's…" Nick said in shock. "It's all right, tell me," LaCroix requested. "Another girl was found; raped and killed." Nick told him. "And?" LaCroix whispered. "A nurse," Nick said. LaCroix sighed, "Nicholas," "I'm so sorry, it's Vivian," Nick said with tears. LaCroix horrified, "No," "I'm sorry," Nick cried. "No," LaCroix said crying as well. LaCroix took a few steps back in shock and horror of this news. His face filled with pain and his heart, in a long time, broken. Nick slowly approached him and put his hands out to him. LaCroix fell into Nick's arms for comfort from the tremendous pain he felt. Nick held him until he felt calm. Suddenly, the door opened with Paul quietly walking in and saw them embracing each other. He stood there until he felt it was safe. Nick helped LaCroix to the stairs and up to the hall that led to his room. He helped in and left him to mourn his love. He closed the door and returned downstairs where he saw Paul holding a case of beer. He dragged himself down over to the couch and sat down on the couch. He reached for the phone. "Raven," Scott said. "Scott, LaCroix needs you; Vivian's dead." Nick whispered. "I'll come up the back, on my way." Scott said hanging up. "Thanks," Nick whispered. Nick quickly hung up the phone leaning into the couch rubbing his face from the pain and stress then turned to Paul. He had a can of beer waiting for him. Nick took the beer and gulped it down. He sat in silence with Paul at his side. "Talk," Paul requested. "The last time he said he was in love was with my sister, decades ago. This trash took her away and hurt my cousin; time to put him away." Nick hissed angrily. "Whoa man, don't screw up now. We want to nail him, permanently. One wrong move and he'll walk, cool it. Doc will call, and if she don't we'll go there first thing in the morning." Paul said firmly. They just sat there on the couch drinking beers when Scott slowly came down the stairs and stood by Nick's side. "How is he?" Nick asked scared. "Not good, very upset and angry." Scott sighed. "Me too," Nick agreed. "We all are; who did this?" Scott inquired. "Not quite sure yet," Paul said "Nick, your car is downstairs, I'm out of here. See you in the morning." Paul told him. "Thanks, man," Nick said numb. "Call me if you need anything." Paul hinted. "I'm okay, but I will." Nick replied. Paul quickly left the loft leaving them behind, alone. "I told LaCroix I would watch the Raven for awhile. He'll stay here for a few." Scott said. "He should, thank you." Nick replied. "I'll be there if you need me." Scott told him. "Thanks, I'm going upstairs, let yourself out." Nick requested. "Sure," Scott said. Nick sniffed slightly, "Night," Scott slowly left as well while Nick strolled over climbing the stairs upward and down the hall to his room. As he entered, he saw LaCroix in the chair. He quietly walked over and sat down on the edge of his bed. Nick just looked at him, a sad and broken man. LaCroix let out a long sigh and looked to Nick. "Who did this?" LaCroix asked. "We're not sure yet." Nick answered. "Who?" LaCroix repeated the question. Nick inhaled, "I can't." "She told me about this gentleman at the hospital that said unpleasant things to her." LaCroix told him. "I know, she told me," Nick replied. "Is he the one?" LaCroix questioned. "Working on it," Nick said. "Nicholas?" LaCroix shouted, pushing for a name. "If it is him, I want this done right so he's gone for good for what he did to her, Sonia and you." Nick said firmly. "He'll be gone, permanently; I assure you." LaCroix expressed. "I know it's hard, but get some rest. I'll need your help on this." Nick told him. "All right," LaCroix replied reluctantly. LaCroix slowly rose from the chair and left Nick alone in his room. He went to his room to rest, but mostly to mourn for the loss of his love. Nick slowly stood up stripping down to his pants and strolled into the bathroom. A few moments passed a flush then the shower. He cleaned up, and turned the water off. He stepped out drying off and wrapped the towel around his waist. Strolled over to his dresser and grabbed his work clothes. He proceeded to dress walking out of the room down the hall and then the stairs. As he touched the floor, a knock came from the door. He walked over, unlocked the door and Paul stepped in. "Hey," Paul sighed. "Hey," Nick sighed in return. "How is he?" Paul asked. "All right, I guess." Nick said still numb. "It's rough; you ready?" Paul inquired. "Yeah," Nick answered. "Want me to drive?" Paul inquired. "I'm okay," Nick said. Nick strolled over to the table grabbing his things and followed Paul out to the elevator then rode down to his car. He unlocked the doors and they climbed in. He started the engine pulled out and quickly headed for the Forensics lab. He saw a spot along the curb and parked. They climbed out and he locked the doors. They walked up the stairs and into the lab. They saw Dr. Michaels all stressed out with her face buried into her hands. They stepped up to her and quietly stood there and waited for her to respond. She felt their eyes upon her and she looked up. "You okay?" Nick asked. "I hate this case," Kathy said. "Same here," Paul agreed. "What you got?" Nick inquired. "Same m.o., the imprint on her inner thigh and the stab wound, but two things different. One, he used a condom so no semen and she got skin tissue under her nails. He's marked." Kathy briefed them. "Is it Ron?" Nick asked. "We're running the skin tissue DNA with the semen DNA from Sonia and what we got." Kathy told them. "Anything else?" Nick queried. "Nail his ass," Kathy said firmly. "No problem," Paul said. "Exactly, call me," Nick suggested. They quickly turned exiting the lab and made their way to his car. He unlocked the doors and they climbed in. He hesitated for a moment and fished for his keys. "What's up?" Paul asked. "I need to see Molly, want to tag along?" Nick inquired. "Cool; I'm not leaving you alone." Paul insisted. "Thanks," Nick whispered Nick started the engine peeling away and headed for Molly's place. He parked the car stepping out and walked through the door down to Molly's apartment. Nick lightly knocked on the door. Molly answered wearing sweat pants and a t-shirt with white socks. She saw the sadness in his eyes and stepped aside to let them pass by. Nick stood at her side and Paul grabbed some coffee on the way to the living room. He turned the television on to the news. "I'm not here, hey, Molly," Paul said. "Hi Paul," Molly replied. "Come on," Nick requested. Nick gently took Molly by the hand and led her to the bedroom. He closed the door behind him. They quickly sat down on the bed. "Hey, what's wrong?" Molly asked. "This case and the loss LaCroix has to deal with." Nick expressed terrified. "It's tremendous," Molly whispered. Nick exhaled, "We're this close and yet," "You'll get him, just relax. If you get all tense you won't be able to think straight." Molly explained. "True," Nick whispered sadly. "Sit for a few and relax," Molly expressed warmly. "Thanks," Nick said slightly crying. As they relaxed for a few, Paul's cell phone rang. He reached into his pocket and pulled it out to answer it. "Coletti," Paul announced. "Hey, I tried to call Nick, but his phones off." Kathy said. "Yeah Doc, he's resting. What's up?" Paul asked. "The results are back on the semen and the skin tissue; they match. You got him; I'll put the file together and fax it over to Nick's desk." Kathy said. "Cool, thanks Doc," Paul said happily. Paul hung up his phone and placed it back into his pocket. He sat and waited for Nick. In the bedroom, they were sitting and holding hands. Molly ran her fingers through his hair to comfort him. "Feeling better?" Molly inquired. "Some, thanks; I need the bathroom," Nick told her. "Go ahead, I'll check on Paul." Molly said. "Love you," Nick said kissing her cheek. "Love you too," Molly expressed kissing him warmly. Nick and Molly slowly rose off the bed and opened the door. Nick stepped into the bathroom and Molly walked down to Paul. He stood to face her, but noticed no Nick. "Where's Nick?" Paul asked. "Bathroom," Molly answered. "How's he doing?" Paul inquired. "A little better, this case is eating him and the loss of Vivian." Molly said. Paul sighed, "Overwhelming," "True," Molly agreed. "What's the subject?" Nick asked. "Kathy called, the DNA from the skin tissue, and the semen, are a match. We got him. So let's go pick up the trash." Paul expressed gladly. "Yes!" Nick smiled. Nick smiled wide, swinging Molly around and let her down. Then he kissed her and they quickly left the Molly's place. They ran down the hall to the elevator and rode down to the street. Nick unlocked the doors and they climbed in. Nick started the engine; Paul put the light on with the siren. Paul picked up the mike and called it in. They quickly arrived at the hospital and parked the car. Climbed out and ran for the door. Nick saw a nurse behind the desk and tapped the counter with his hand. She turned around and saw his badge. "Ronald Dawes?" Nick requested. "Yes, sir," The nurse said. She turned around and checked the work sheet then slowly turned towards to Nick. "I'm sorry, he left early," The nurse answered. "When?" Paul inquired. "About an hour ago," She replied. "Did he leave with a girl?" Paul asked. "Terry," she answered. "Address, now." Nick quickly insisted. The nurse looked up her address writing it down for him and they ran out. Climbed back into the car and he started the engine. Paul turned the lights on with the siren and called for back up then drove quickly to Terry's address. ***** As they arrived, they parked down the road with no lights or siren. Pulled out their guns to check them and removed the safety switch. Then the back up showed up and copied what Nick did. They met on the sidewalk to discuss the situation at hand. "Okay, people; what's the deal?" Reese asked. "Michaels called, the DNA from the skin tissue and the semen matched Ronald Dawes." Paul told him. "We went to the hospital, and he left early with a girl. She lives here." Nick expressed to him. "Okay, possible hostage; Jack, Tony take the back and you two handle the front. I'll stand on the sidewalk behind you two. Let's try to do this safely people. Move out." Reese ordered. Jack and Tony quietly walked to the back of the house and Nick and Paul approached the front door. Nick lightly knocked on the door, no answer. Paul peeked around and looked through the window. He saw Ron with a gun and hid it in his pants in the back. Paul showed Nick he has a gun and where. Ron ran down to the bedroom where Terry was tied up and gagged. Nick knocked one more time, still no answer. He tested the door, and it was unlocked. They carefully walked in and observed every corner. Paul followed closely behind. Jack and Tony stood in the kitchen and awaited Nick's direction. Suddenly a voice echoed from the back of the hall. "Come down here and she's dead." Ron yelled. "Damn, Jack, go outside and check for a window, stay low. Tony, go tell Cap to come in, definitely hostage. Nevertheless, have Doc come down. If she was raped, none of us will get near her." Nick requested. "Got it," Tony answered. "Jack, tell me what you see," Nick suggested. "Right," Jack whispered. "Ideas?" Nick replied. "Thinking, assuming she is alive because he threatened to kill her, and possibly raped her already. He's got a gun." Paul said. "Update?" Reese replied. "He's got her in a room down the hall. He has a gun and Jack's checking through a window." Nick explained. "Hey; he's sitting in a chair behind the bed and the girl's on the bed tied up and gagged, but not moving." Jack reported. "Damn, okay, ideas people. Oh, Kathy's on her way." Reese said. "Good," Nick answered. "We could take him out through the window." Paul suggested. "Is he near the girl?" Reese questioned. "No, she's on the bed." Jack replied. "Let's try getting him out, but if it don't work; we won't have any choice." Reese said. "Okay, Tony, you have the best aim, go set up in case." Nick said. "Yes, sir," Tony answered. "Paul, start talking," Reese implied. "I'll try," Paul said softly. Paul quietly walked down the hall and leaned up against the wall. He tried to listen for any noise, but it was very quiet. He gave Nick a silent nod of assurance and for him to ready in case something went wrong. "Hey, Ron, this is Paul Coletti; I'm here to talk," Paul said. "No talk, I want out of here," Ron replied shaking. "Well, give up and let the girl go," Paul suggested. "No way man, I walk out of here, and I'm a dead man." Ron yelled. Paul exhaled, "I will personally walk you out, I swear," "I'm not going to prison." Ron told him. "Where do you want to go?" Paul inquired. "I don't know," Ron replied. "How's Terry?" Paul asked. "She was great, but sleeping now." Ron answered. "Can I come in and talk?" Paul questioned. Ron screaming, "No, no, go away," "Okay, chill out man. I need to take a leak; I'll be right back." Paul said. Paul quietly walked back to Reese and Nick who were observing through the doorway. Jack slowly walked in from outside to tell them his view. "Now what?" Paul asked. "He's losing it, the girl hasn't moved at all." Tony reported. "I think she's dead," Paul said. "Why?" Nick inquired. "He said she was great, meaning he raped her, and sleeping, dead." Paul said. "True," Nick agreed. Doctor Michaels quietly walked in and joined them. The tension in the room was overwhelming. "Well?" Kathy asked. "We feel she's dead." Nick answered. "Damn," Kathy sighed. "Tony, go back to the window and wait for the word. Paul, try again. Nick, go with him. Doc, stay here. I'll be with Tony. Take him down." Reese ordered. "Okay," Nick replied. "Yes, sir," Paul said softly. Tony and Reese went outside to the window to observe the scene. Nick and Paul strolled down to the door and tried to talk him out of the room. Doc just observed the action and waited nervously. Nick and Paul prepared themselves and took the safety switch off on their guns. Nick quietly nodded his head for Paul to start talking to Ron. "Hey, man, sorry it took so long. I haven't gone all day." Paul explained. "Okay," Ron said calming down. "It's time to give up, Ron." Paul hinted. "No," Ron sobbed. "I know you're scared, I'm scared too. But you need to let me in so we can walk out of here alive. What do you say?" Paul suggested. "Just you," Ron said firmly. Paul inhaled, "Okay, I'll be unarmed." Paul gave Nick his gun and hid so Ron would not see him. Paul reached over and slowly turned the knob. He carefully, with his hands out in view, stepped into the room. Ron quickly frisked Paul and then stepped back and aimed the gun at his head. Ron was very shaky and scared, but sweaty all over. Nick observed through the crack of the door. "Hey, Ron, how's Terry?" Paul asked. "Still sleeping," Ron answered. "Mind if I check her out?" Paul requested. "You can have a turn." Ron told him. "Thanks," Paul uttered. Paul carefully walked over and touched her neck; no pulse. As he stood up; he saw Tony at the window. "What are you waiting for?" Ron asked. "She's sleeping; I don't want to wake her up. So, let's leave, remember." Paul reminded him. "Not yet," Ron said aiming his gun. "Come on man, it's time to go." Paul pleaded. "Not yet," Ron said shaking his gun. Ron quickly fired the gun into the air and Paul ducked. Tony reached in taking careful aim and shot Ron in the leg. Ron fell to the floor and Nick ran into the room. He disarmed Ron and checked on Paul. He grabbed Ron's hands rolling him over and handcuffed him. Tony and Reese came in and Tony took him outside then to the hospital. Reese waved Doctor Michaels into the room to tend to Terry. Reese, Nick, and Paul walked out of the room and outside for some fresh air. "Paul, Nick you guys okay?" Reese asked. "Yeah," Nick answered. "Fine," Paul said shaking. "Great job boys," Reese said calmly. "Thanks, but feel rotten we were too late for Terry." Paul expressed. "Yeah, I know. Nick, how's your cousin holding up?" Reese inquired. "It'll take some time, but he's okay." Nick answered. "Been there, done that," Reese mumbled. As they quietly discussed the end of the case, two voices echoed in the distance. "NICK!" Molly yelled. "PAUL!" Carla yelled as well. They turned their heads and saw Molly and Carla with LaCroix closely behind them. They quickly walked towards each other and then embraced tightly with every ounce of energy they had left. Nick glanced up to LaCroix with a smile. "It was on the news, so we…" Molly started. "It's okay, I'm fine. I'm glad to see you, both of you. LaCroix." Nick said relieved. "Nicholas," LaCroix said with a slight sigh. "Where is he?" Carla inquired. "At the hospital, we took him out in the knee. He'll pay for what he did." Nick said firmly. "So true my friend," Paul agreed. "You two disappear until Monday." Reese ordered them. "Yes sir, let's go, are you coming?" Nick suggested. "I need to take a walk; I'll see you at home." LaCroix said. "Okay, becareful," Nick implied. "I will," LaCroix answered. LaCroix slowly roamed down the road as the other four climbed into Nick's car and quickly left everyone and everything behind. ***** Meanwhile, back at the hospital Ron was lying on a bed reading a magazine. There was an officer just outside his door. As he turned the light off, LaCroix quietly stepped into the room through the window. He stood at the foot of the bed and stared at him. Ron felt a presence glaring at him. He sat up quickly and looked around. He reached over to grab the light switch, but LaCroix stepped over and touched his arm. Ron leaned back into the bed. LaCroix slowly opened his eyes and his fangs shined from the light he turned on. Ron horrified by what he saw. "You destroyed an angel," LaCroix said. "What the hell are you?" Ron asked terrified. "You're worst nightmare," LaCroix snarled. "GUARD," Ron yelled. "Too late," LaCroix grinned. LaCroix slowly leaned over and glared deep into his eyes. He tilted his head jamming his fangs into his throat and drained him dry. He then laid him back and quickly left through the window. He quickly flew to Nick's home and entered through the rear entrance. Just as he entered the living room Nick came in from the front door. They met up at the couch. "Feeling better?" Nick inquired. "Yes, thank you," LaCroix replied. "I'm glad," Nick smiled. "I placed some roses upon her grave." LaCroix told him. "I'm sure she would like that." Nick replied smiling. "I'm sure, time to rest. Where's Molly?" LaCroix inquired. "Home, I'll see her tomorrow. I wanted to be here with you." Nick told him. "I appreciate that, but…" LaCroix started. Suddenly, his phone rang. Excusing himself from LaCroix he slowly walked over to the phone and picked it up. "Knight," Nick announced. Nick slowly placed the phone down walked back to LaCroix's side. He saw the confused look upon his face. "Nicholas, what's happened?" LaCroix asked. "The nurse went to give Ron his medicine, he was dead." Nick said. "Pity," LaCroix uttered. "I guess, not really," Nick scoffed slightly. "Time to rest," LaCroix said calmly. "Lead the way," Nick requested. They slowly climbed the stairs and strolled into their own rooms. They drifted off to sleep after a very long night of fear and sorrow. LaCroix's heart isn't as cold or dark as he thought. Even he, the evil one (not), can love and care for a human.
