ã2004 Hidden II LaCroix's Shadow By: Cheryl Pillsbury The skies have darkened with gray thick clouds, day looked like night. The sky began to rumble and roar with thunder, and bright lightening bolts streaked across the sky. The rain poured heavily upon the city. It was one of the worst lightening storms Toronto has seen in years. The roads were flooded, and everything was extremely soaked. A huge rumble of thunder shook the loft and awoke Nick from a sound sleep. He sat up quickly and scanned his room in fear. A bolt of lightening flashed between the blinds. His curiosity drew him to climb out of bed and slowly approached the blinds. He cautiously took the string and slowly rolled up the blinds. He gazed out into the storm and a bolt of lightening flashed before his eyes. The amazement of the show and a crash of thunder left him numb. Nick slowly looked behind him and no one there. He looked back out the window and realized LaCroix was truly gone. It has been weeks since he left trying to decide why his existence has changed. Nick bowed his head as he lowered the blinds. He slowly walked into the bathroom for a few moments then exited. He glanced at the clock and noticed it was 4:30 in the morning. Where he could not sleep, he strolled into the hallway and down the stairs. He walked into the kitchen and prepared a small pot of hot coffee. While it was brewing, he turned the television on for some news and grabbed a mug. He poured his coffee, and moved into the living room and curled up on the couch. When he felt cozy upon the couch, his phone rang. He jumped slightly then grabbed the receiver and cleared his throat. "Knight," Nick answered. "Ebourn," Molly replied. "Hey," Nick said, smiling. "Hey," Molly replied, warmly. "You okay?" Molly asked. "Yeah, I think so. The thunder woke me up." Molly explained. "Same here, do you want some company?" Nick asked. "I'll come there, I have no power." Molly told him. "Coffee's hot." Nick insinuated. "I'll be there in ten or so." Molly replied, happily. "I'm waiting." Nick replied, seductively. "Thank you, love you." Molly said, happily. "Love you, too." Nick said, grinning. Nick quickly placed the receiver down with a boyish grin. He stood up and roamed into the kitchen to make another pot of coffee. When he filled his mug with coffee turning around, there stood LaCroix very still with his hands crossed. Nick slowly put his mug down and carefully approached him. He glanced into his face, into his eyes, and felt a slight chill in his spine. LaCroix returned the glare with a slight sigh to follow. He could feel Nick's fear and concern for him. LaCroix grinned slightly and quietly cleared his throat. "Did you miss me?" LaCroix asked. "Tons," Nick whispered, teary-eyed. Nick reached around and embraced him with love. LaCroix slowly returned the same gesture. As Nick stepped back to see his expression, Molly walked in and saw them standing there. She quickly walked in and embraced LaCroix tightly. Surprised by her emotion, LaCroix returned it. Nick hesitated for a few and joined in. He carefully wrapped his arms around Molly and placed his hands upon LaCroix's lower arms. They separated with Molly still attached to Nick. "My two favorite men in the same home again." Molly said. "It's nice." Nick said, smiling. "Yes." LaCroix said. "You are home, right?" Nick inquired, hoping. "Yes. We will talk later. I need to rest." LaCroix said. "Welcome home." Nick replied, thrilled. "Thank you. Molly, always a pleasure." LaCroix whispered. LaCroix, with a slight bow and a gentle kiss upon her hand left them. He slowly climbed up the stairs and down the hall to his room. When he opened the door, he noticed nothing had been touched. He slowly closed the door to rest and realized he was home. Nick turned to face Molly and greeted her with a passionate kiss. Suddenly, a roar of thunder crashed around them and Molly held him even tighter. Nick rubbed the back of her head and ran his fingers through her hair to comfort her. "Was that for the kiss, or the thunder?" Nick queried. "Both," Molly said, shaking. "Good answer. I'm tired, want to go up stairs and get some sleep?" Nick inquired. "I think I can sleep now." Molly answered. "I'll tell you a story to sleep by." Nick told her. "Happy ending?" Molly queried. "Always, do you want to go out for breakfast?" Nick asked. "The Griddle," Molly suggested. "Okay." Nick replied, laughing. Molly exhaled, "I'll race you." "Not fair, I'm tired." Nick said, sighing. "No energy for me." Molly insinuated. "I can always find energy for you." Nick replied, grinning. Molly smiled, "Well…" "You tease," Nick told her. "Ready, set, bye," Molly replied. Molly quickly ran up the stairs down the hall and into Nick's bedroom with him close behind. Molly flopped onto the bed with Nick and they enjoyed the nightly hours of love and passion. As the storm slowly went out to sea, the morning hours passed with Nick and Molly cuddled under the blankets. Suddenly, the alarm sounded and Nick stretched over to turn it off. He rolled back next to Molly and gazed upon her peaceful face. He gently leaned over and placed a soft kiss upon her red lips. Molly woke up to his sparkling blue eyes and a boyish grin. "What?" Molly asked. "You are so beautiful." Nick replied, smiling. Molly blushed, "Thank you." "You're welcome. Are you working today?" Nick questioned. "No, but I need to go home and clean. My place is a disaster." Molly told him. "What happened?" Nick asked. "Working and you; so, I need a day to clean." Molly explained. Nick pouted, "I have to check in." "Poor, Nick." Molly replied. "Yeah, shower." Nick suggested. "Let's go." Molly replied, happily. Nick smiled, "Breakfast." "Starving," Molly said. "Me too, come on." Nick agreed. "Give me five." Molly requested. "Go, then my turn, and then the shower." Nick said. "Love you." Molly replied. "Love you, too." Nick said, warmly. They slowly climbed out of bed and quickly took turns using the bathroom. Nick set the water temperature and they carefully stepped in. They washed up and enjoyed the few quiet moments of peace. Nick affectionately kissed Molly, and she returned the jester with a gentle squeeze to his upper back. He reached down and turned the water off. They climbed out and he grabbed a towel. They helped dry each other off, and roamed into the bedroom to dress for the day. Suddenly, Nick's phone rang. He moved over to his nightstand and picked up the receiver. He cleared his throat and glanced at Molly. "Knight," Nick answered. "Hey, Buddy; Golden Griddle in thirty for breakfast," Paul said. "On our way there anyway; see you in a few." Nick told him. Nick quickly hung up the phone, and walked over to Molly to zip up her dress and gave her a little kiss upon the back of her head. "Who was that?" Molly inquired. "Paul, Golden Griddle for breakfast with them," Nick told her. "Good idea." Molly replied, smiling. Nick grinned, "Let's go." They quickly left the bedroom walked down the hall and down the stairs. Nick stepped over to the table by the couch. He grabbed his things, and placed his gun in the back of him and escorted Molly out of the loft. They rode down the elevator and walked out to his car. He unlocked her door and she climbed in. He strolled to his side climbed in and started the engine. He quickly backed out and headed for the restaurant. ****************************** Nick spotted the restaurant ahead and carefully pulled into the parking space and turned the engine off. He climbed out and walked over to Molly's door. He opened the door and extended his hand to help her out of the car. He locked the doors and they walked hand-in-hand into the restaurant. They saw Paul and Carla waving to them from the back wall. They slowly walked towards them and slid into the booth. A waiter came over and quietly poured their coffee then stepped away a foot or so. They quickly ordered their breakfast and wrote it down as he left them. "Hey, Buddy, hello, Molly," Paul said, greeting them. "Hey, guys." Molly said. "Hey." Nick whispered. "A man of many words," Paul replied, joking. "Funny," Nick said. "Carla and I are planning to return to Glen Rouge." Paul told them. "Great. Molly's picking the vacation this time." Nick said. "Any ideas?" Carla inquired. "Well, I would like to go on the Disney Cruise to the Bahamas." Molly hinted. "That sounds great. You plan it and we'll go in about a week or so." Nick said. "Perfect," Molly said. "It sounds like it. Oh look, food time." Paul said. "Let's eat, because we need to check in." Nick said, sadly. "So true," Paul uttered with a sigh. Nick, Paul, and the ladies slowly enjoyed their breakfast and small talk about their vacations. ************************** Inside the Raven, LaCroix was standing at his window observing the world outside through the blinds. Scott quietly stepped in and stood by the foot of the bed. He quietly cleared his throat to draw his attention towards him. "LaCroix," Scott uttered. "Yes, Scott." LaCroix said, exhaling. "Is there something wrong?" Scott asked. "Someone new has entered the fold." LaCroix told him. "Is that bad?" Scott inquired. LaCroix sighed, "I'm not sure." "You look a little pale, have you fed today?" Scott asked. "Yes." LaCroix answered. "Becareful being that close, its daylight; you should be resting." Scott said. "Quite true," LaCroix chuckled. "Everything is sealed up. There's a woman downstairs, she's looking for a waitress job." Scott told him. "I will speak with her and rest." LaCroix said. "I'll go tell her." Scott replied. LaCroix smiled, "Thank you." Scott left LaCroix alone in his room. LaCroix walked over to the fridge and opened the door. He grabbed a green bottle removed the cork and drank the blood. He replaced it and closed the door. He strolled out of his room down a few steps and over to the bar. LaCroix's eyes filled with enchantment from the vision before his eyes. A woman was sitting at the bar, blonde hair and brown eyes, but simply pretty. LaCroix grinned slightly, but unaware to him, Scott was hiding to observe the scene. He strolled up behind the bar and cleared his throat. She turned to face him, and had a slight sparkle for him. "You are looking for a job." LaCroix said. "Yes, night shift." She replied. "Really," LaCroix replied, smiling. "Yes. Your voice, where are you from, originally?" she inquired. "Originally, Rome," LaCroix answered. "Splendid, land of love," she replied, grinning. "Perhaps; start tonight about eight." LaCroix suggested. "Nine is better." She uttered. "Grand. I shall see you about nine." LaCroix said, exhaling. "Can't wait," she told him. "Same here; your name please," LaCroix requested. "Jamie Bennett; later LaCroix," Jamie replied, softly. LaCroix grinned, "Take care." Jamie slowly stood up and strolled across the floor up the stairs then outside. LaCroix watched every step and let out a sigh as the door closed. Scott snickered in the background and left to do his duties. LaCroix slowly cleaned the bar and returned to his room to rest for the day. ******************** However, back at the restaurant, they were outside talking and enjoyed hug time. As they were about to end the mid-morning, a gunshot rang out. Molly and Carla held onto their men tightly while protected from harm. Paul placed the women together, Nick led the way with his gun drawn, and Paul close behind. They slowly walked down the sidewalk and looked into each alley. Two alley's down, they saw a small child lying face down with a gun in his hand. They carefully approached the body. Nick knelt down and gently felt his wrist. He looked up at Paul and shook his head. They slowly walked out of the alley and the women slowly approached them. Paul escorted them away from the alley. Nick pulled out his cell phone and called it in. "Nick," Molly said, shaking. "A child got shot." Nick replied, stunned. Molly gasped, "Oh my, God." "Sorry," Nick said, apologizing. "I will stay with Nick. You and Molly take the truck and go where you need to be." Paul said. "Molly, go ahead. I will call you later. Your car is at my place." Nick replied. "All right, please becareful." Molly said, scared. "I will, love you." Nick said. Molly exhaled, "Love you, too." "Bye, Love." Carla said. "See you at home. Love you." Paul said. Nick and Paul each kissed their woman and they walked away to go home or work. They carefully strolled back into the alley. They pulled out there hankies and carefully poked around. "Nick, look to your right, blood spatter." Paul said. "He's facing the wrong way; 45 Magnum." Nick added. "Nice one but deadly," Paul said. "True. What would you say, about eight or so?" Nick inquired. "Maybe; Nick, come over for a second. Look at this." Paul requested. "What?" Nick asked. Nick carefully moved over to Paul's side and glanced at what he saw. "What is that?" Nick questioned. "I'm not sure, but it looks like a piece of metal." Paul replied. "Whoa. Look, lab's here." Nick said. Paul sighed, "Reese, too; let's go." Nick and Paul quickly stood up to greet Reese at the edge of the alley. Kathy and the lab crew went by them to proceed with their task. Kathy gasped slightly when she saw it was a small child. "Okay, boys, fill me in." Reese instructed. "We finished breakfast at the Griddle and exited the restaurant." Nick said. "Then we heard the gunshot and came looking. That's when we found the body." Paul added on. "A kid." Nick mumbled. "Damn," Reese said, angrily. "Hey, guys, you have to see this." Kathy yelled from the alley. They quickly walked towards Kathy and she pointed to the child's body. Their eyes filled with shock of horror. "What the hell is that?" Reese asked. "My God." Nick whispered. "Steel shavings sticking into his body," Kathy told them. "Hundreds," Paul said. "I'll know later." Kathy said. "Station, guys, let us know Kathy, red hot." Reese ordered. "Sure thing," Kathy replied. Reese led the way out of the alley to the street. Nick and Paul quickly walked to Nick's car and he unlocked the doors. He backed up and headed for the station. He parked the caddy along the curb and turned the engine off. They climbed out and Nick locked the doors. Paul led the way as they ran up the stairs and inside the building. Reese stood at Nick's desk waiting for them. They approached him and escorted them to interrogation two. He closed the behind them and they sat around the table. There was a phone in the middle of the table with paper and pencils around it. "Let's take this from the top. Nick, start it off." Reese instructed them. "The four of us were at the Golden Griddle for breakfast. After we finished eating, we went outside to talk. A gunshot came from the distance. We left the women at the restaurant and we followed the sound. Paul later took the lead." Nick said. "Paul, finish up." Reese requested. "We had our guns drawn, about two alleys away from where we were; I saw the body lying face down. We carefully entered the alley and noticed it was a child. The gun was at his side." Paul added. "Any witnesses?" Reese asked. "None yet," Nick said. "We need to look around the crime scene." Paul suggested. "Do that." Reese ordered. As they carefully examined the notes they wrote, the phone rang and Reese pushed the button for the speakerphone. "Reese," Reese said. "Michaels," Kathy replied. "Go ahead, we're all here." Reese told her. "Good. Well, I ran his fingerprints; his name was Thomas Pate, twelve years old. He was shot in the chest by a 45 magnum, very close range." Kathy explained. "What about the steel shavings?" Paul inquired. "I don't know where or why, but there was 162 pieces." Kathy answered. "Poor, kid," Nick sighed, sadly. "I faxed all the results over. Lisa will put it on your desk Nick." Kathy said. Nick exhaled, "Thank you." "Anything else?" Reese inquired. "Not yet, maybe in the morning," Kathy replied. "Thanks, Kathy. Keep us posted." Reese said. "I will." Kathy replied in return. Reese reached over and pushed the button off on the speakerphone. He signed a few papers closed the file and handed it to Nick. "Becareful telling the family," Reese suggested. "We will," Paul replied. "Let's go people." Reese recommended. They stood up and exited the interrogation room. Reese made his way back to his office, and Nick led Paul to his desk. He saw the paper there and slowly picked it up. They read it carefully and slipped it into the file. Just as they sat down, his phone rang. Nick reached over and picked up the receiver. "Knight," Nick answered. "Ebourn," Molly replied. Nick smiled, "Hey," "Carla's here, you two all right?" Molly asked. "Yes, we're fine." Nick answered. "What happened?" Molly questioned. "Not everything is in, but it was a child shot." Nick briefed her. Molly exhaled, "That poor family." "We're on our way there now. I'll come by later." Nick said. "All right; I'll have dinner for you." Molly told him. "Great. Love you." Nick said, smiling. "Love you, too." Molly replied, warmly. Nick hung up the phone and slapped Paul on the arm with the file. He led the way out of the building with Paul close behind. He unlocked the doors and they climbed in. Nick tossed the file into the backseat and started the engine. Paul tapped his forearm to draw his attention. "How's Molly?" Paul asked. "Sorry, she's fine and Carla's with her." Nick told him. "How are they handling it?" Paul inquired. "Okay, I guess. After this, we'll grab a beer, I'll visit with LaCroix for a few, and then I'll head over to Molly's; you?" Nick queried. "I'll grab a beer, say hello to LaCroix, and go home to Carla." Paul said. Nick smiled, "Good plan." "Yours, too; let's go." Paul replied, sadly. Nick backed up and headed for Tommy's home. He spotted the driveway and slowly drove in. He turned the engine off and they climbed out. They stood at the edge of the path took in a deep breath and walked up to the front door. Paul reached upward and rang the doorbell. Suddenly, a gentleman appeared at the door and glared at them. Nick quietly cleared his throat as he approached him. "I'm Detective Knight and he's Detective Coletti, Mr. Pate?" Nick inquired. "Tucker Pate, yes," Tucker replied, hesitant. "May we come in?" Paul asked. "Sure," Tucker replied. Tucker opened the door and they strolled by him. They stood in the small hallway and waited patiently. Tucker escorted them into the sitting room. There were two recliners with a table in the middle, a flat-screen television on the wall with a stereo system on a table under the television. "What can I do for you?" Tucker asked. "Is your son's name, Thomas Pate?" Nick asked. "Yeah, is he in trouble?" Tucker inquired. "What's going on?" Wendy said. "Are you Thomas's mother?" Paul queried. "Yes, Wendy Pate." Wendy replied. "I'm afraid we have some bad news." Paul replied. "What happened?" Wendy asked. "You're son, Thomas, was found this morning, in an alley." Nick told them. "Is he?" Wendy queried, stunned. "Yes ma'am. We're very sorry." Paul answered. "Oh my, God," Wendy said, sobbing. Tucker exhaled, "Tommy, how?" "He was shot." Nick said. "Killed," Tucker said, sighing sadly. "Not sure, possibly," Paul replied. "He was covered with steel shaving; any ideas?" Nick inquired. "I work at the old steel mill. He was with me this morning, and then he went out to play." Tucker explained. "Did anything happen at work today?" Paul asked. "No, I don't think so. Can we do this later, I need…" Tucker requested. "No problem." Paul answered. "Here's my card, call me anytime." Nick said. "Thank you." Tucker whispered. "We'll let ourselves out." Paul said. "Thank you." Tucker replied. Nick led the way out with Paul at his side. Paul locked the door on the way out. They walked down the path to the car and Nick unlocked the doors. They climbed in and Nick started the engine. He carefully backed out and headed for the Raven. Nick pulled up along the curb and parked the caddy. He turned the engine off and hesitated for a few behind the wheel. Paul noticed him and tapped his forearm. "You okay?" Paul asked. "That was rough." Nick sighed, sadly. "Very, but, I'm curious about the father's job." Paul replied. Nick exhaled, "Same here," "I need a beer." Paul replied. "Double here. Let's go. You need a ride home?" Nick inquired. "No, I'll walk, I need some air. I'll be at your place about ten." Paul said. "All right, let's go." Nick strongly suggested. They stepped out of the car while Nick locked the doors. He led the way into the Raven. They walked down the stairs and over to the bar. They saw two empty stools and sat down. Scott approached them and cleared his throat. "Hey, guys. What can I get you?" Scott asked. "Two beers to start," Nick said. "Uh-oh," Scott sighed. "Yeah, where's LaCroix?" Nick asked. "His room; beers are on the house." Scott told them. "Cool, thanks, ten in the morning." Paul said. "Later," Nick replied. "Here's your beer." Scott said. "Thanks." Nick whispered. Nick took his beer and strolled into the backroom. He climbed the few steps knocked on the door and entered the room. He saw LaCroix standing in front of his dresser staring into the mirror. As he moved into direction, his eyes filled with amazement. He grinned, smiled and stepped directly behind him. Nick saw LaCroix's reflection in the mirror. "Amazing, isn't it." LaCroix responded. "LaCroix, your reflection," Nick said in shock. LaCroix exhaled, "Yes." "It's begun." Nick replied, smiling. "What has?" LaCroix asked. "Redemption; that's how it started for me," Nick told him. LaCroix smiled, "I see." "Fantastic," Nick replied, happily. "Your eyes say something else. What's happened?" LaCroix inquired. "We found a dead child today, shot." Nick blurted out. "Oh dear," LaCroix sighed, sadly. "We came here after telling the parents." Nick said. "How did they handle it?" LaCroix inquired. Nick exhaled, "Not well," "Obviously," LaCroix replied. "True," Nick said. "I have refrained from human to steer or cow. It has been about a month now." LaCroix told him. "Good," Nick said. "What else disturbs you?" LaCroix questioned. "Enforcer's," Nick answered. "Ah yes, same here. I have a disturbance, and a new one has come into the fold." LaCroix replied. "Vampire?" Nick queried. "Dhampir," LaCroix answered. "Intensions?" Nick asked. "Not sure, Scott's looking into it." LaCroix replied. "Keep me posted. I'm heading over to Molly's. See you at home later." Nick told him. "All right, becareful." LaCroix expressed concerned. "I will, you, too." Nick replied, warmly. Nick gave him a loving squeeze upon his upper arm, smiled, and left him there staring into the mirror. Nick walked down the stairs into the other room and outside to his car. He unlocked the door and climbed in. He started the engine and carefully pulled away. He drove quickly to Molly's apartment. He pulled into the parking lot and parked the caddy near the front door. He turned the engine off and climbed out. He walked up the path through the door and down the hallway to Molly's front door. He knocked lightly and Molly opened the door. She was wearing her sweat suit and white socks on her feet. Nick passed by her as she closed her door. He strolled into the living room and flopped onto the couch. Molly followed behind him carrying a hot pot of coffee and two mugs. She placed it on the table and poured the coffee. Molly handed him one and snuggled next to him. He sipped the coffee to calm his nerves and exhaled softly. "All right, talk." Molly insisted. "We told the family and they were crushed." Nick replied. "I'm sure. Was it an accident or murder?" Molly inquired. "Not sure yet," Nick said. "That makes it harder." Molly replied. Nick exhaled, "Yes it does." "Are you hungry? I made some sandwiches." Molly queried. "Yes, thank you." Nick said. "All right; stay here, find a good movie and we'll dine here." Molly suggested. "Great," Nick agreed. "Don't worry, it'll be all right. I'm here." Molly told him. "Always great to know," Nick said. "Be right back." Molly replied, warmly. Nick sighed, "All right," Molly leaned over and kissed Nick upon his soft cheek. She stood up and walked into the kitchen. She picked up the platter with sandwiches on it. She carried the platter into the living room and placed it on the table next to the coffee. Molly looked over and saw an old western on. She sat very close to Nick, and passed him a sandwich relaxing for a while. ****************** At Nick's loft, LaCroix came in through the window of his room. He walked over to the fridge in the corner and grabbed a green bottle. He strolled out of bedroom down the hall and down the stairs. LaCroix walked into the kitchen and grabbed a wine glass. As he poured the blood into the glass, he felt a strong urge through his senses. He placed the bottle down and slowly turned around. LaCroix grinned and scoffed at the view. Standing by the couch was an Enforcer. LaCroix slowly approached him and sipped his blood. The Enforcer glanced into the glass and saw the difference in the texture. LaCroix glared at him and cleared his throat to draw his attention away from the blood. "Munzo," LaCroix uttered. "LaCroix, long time," Munzo said, smirking. "Not long enough and you are forbidden to be here." LaCroix said. "Oh well," Munzo replied. "What do you want this time?" LaCroix asked. "There's a great disturbance in the community." Munzo informed him. "Really, what would that be?" LaCroix inquired. "You and Nicholas' knowledge," Munzo answered. "He has no knowledge, and how am I disturbing you?" LaCroix queried. "Steer blood and your image appearing." Munzo told him. LaCroix inhaled, "My what?" "I saw it LaCroix." Munzo replied. "What of it?" LaCroix questioned. "You will remain with us." Munzo instructed him. "I will remain, as you put it, here with Nicholas." LaCroix informed him. "What is your decision?" Munzo asked. "Decision," LaCroix replied. "The community or joining Nicholas and his redemption?" Munzo asked, directly. "That's none of your business." LaCroix answered. Munzo grinded his jaw, "Oh, but it is." They continue to debate the issue, when Nick slowly came through the door and saw them, they stopped. "LaCroix," Nick said. "Nicholas, welcome home." LaCroix said, greeting him. "Molly says hello." Nick told him. LaCroix smiled, "How is she?" "Fine. Is there a problem?" Nick inquired. "No, he was just leaving." LaCroix said. "We are not done with this." Munzo told him. "No, we're not, but we are, here." LaCroix strongly recommended. "Ciao," Munzo said. "Use the door." LaCroix suggested. Munzo walked by Nick and brushed his side as he left through the door. Nick approached LaCroix and looked to him with slight fear. "LaCroix," Nick said, slightly shaken. "It's all right, he doesn't know about your memory." LaCroix told him. "But, he mentioned your image." Nick replied. LaCroix exhaled, "Yes." "What will he do?" Nick asked. "Nothing," LaCroix replied. "LaCroix," Nick said, scared. "If I stay neutral too long, he will take me further into the darkness." LaCroix explained. "What?" Nick replied, horrified. "It appears, that time you gave me your blood, it has altered my condition and created a disturbance in the fold." LaCroix explained. "And?" Nick queried. "He could drain that and bring me across to a darker hell." LaCroix said. Nick inhaled, "No." "Don't worry. My decision will be made and he will flee from here." LaCroix said. "He can't have you. I will kill him first." Nick hissed in anger. "Thank you for the gesture, but relax. Let's get some rest, your tired." LaCroix said. "Lead on." Nick replied, concerned. LaCroix picked up his glass and showed Nick to the staircase. They climbed the stairs strolled down the hall. LaCroix walked into his room and closed the door. Nick strolled into his. He walked into the bathroom for a few moments, a flush then changed into his nightclothes. He walked out and moved over to his nightstand. He placed his watch down and set the alarm. He pulled down the blankets and crawled into bed. He turned the light off and drifted off to sleep. ************************ The hours passed rather quickly and the sun shined through the blinds. It slowly traveled upward and shined in Nick's eyes. He rolled over as the alarm sounded. He stretched over and turned it off. He tossed the blankets aside and sat up rubbing his face. He stood up and walked into the bathroom. A few moments passed a flush then the shower. Nick stepped in and cleaned up for the day. He finished his hair and turned slightly to turn the water off. He stepped out, grabbed a towel, and dried off. He wrapped the towel around his waist and walked into his room. He moved over to the dresser and pulled out his work clothes. He turned towards the bed, tossed the clothes onto the bed, and dropped the towel. He proceeded to dress and groomed his golden hair and face. Nick strolled out of his room down the hall and the stairs. He walked into the kitchen and made a fresh pot of coffee. He grabbed an apple from the basket and removed a mug from the cabinet. He poured his coffee and walked into the living room. He sat down and turned the news on. As he sipped his coffee, a knock came from the door. The door opened as Paul walked in inhaling the aroma of fresh coffee. He grabbed a mug poured the coffee and joined Nick on the couch. "Morning." Paul said. Nick exhaled, "Morning." "Anything yet?" Paul inquired. "No," Nick answered. "How's Molly?" Paul asked. "Good. Her nephew, Justin, is coming for a visit." Nick told him. "How old?" Paul queried. Nick hesitated, "Twelve, I think." "What are you going to do?" Paul asked. "Lunch and the Aquarium," Nick answered. "Cool." Paul replied. "How's Carla?" Nick questioned. "Fine and dandy," Paul said, happily. Before Nick could speak, his phone rang and they both stared at each other. He stretched over and picked up the receiver. "Knight," Nick replied. "Hey, the results are in." Kathy told him. "Great," Nick said, relieved. "One note; it's not case related." Kathy informed him. Nick inhaled, "What's that?" "They just wheeled Chuck Weeden in; hung himself in his cell." Kathy told him. "Damn," Nick sighed. "Sorry. Stop in on your way to the station." Kathy requested. "All right," Nick said, sadly. Nick slowly hung up the phone and gulped down the last of his coffee. Paul lightly tapped his leg to draw his attention. "What happened?" Paul asked. "Chuck's dead." Nick answered. Paul gasped, "What? How?" "Hung himself in his cell," Nick told him. "Oh man, that bites." Paul replied, upset. "It sure does. She also said the results are back." Nick said. "Let's go." Paul suggested. Nick stood up, and moved over to the table picking up his things. He removed his gun from the draw and tucked into his belt in the back. Paul stood up carrying the pot and mugs into the kitchen and placed them into the sink. Nick led the way out of the loft with Paul at his side and rode the elevator down to his car. He unlocked the doors and they climbed in. He started the engine and backed out then headed for the Forensics building. Nick pulled up along the curb and parked the car. He turned the engine off and they climbed out. They ran up the stairs and into Kathy's lab. As they entered, Kathy covered up Tommy's face with a white sheet. "Kathy." Nick uttered. "Hey, Nick." Kathy said. "What's wrong?" Nick answered. Kathy sighed, "I hate it when kids get killed." "Killed?" Nick queried. "Murdered," Paul said. "I'm afraid so. No gun residue." Kathy replied. "What?" Nick asked, stunned. "Yeah; he did not shoot the gun, someone else did. I checked every inch of him, no residue." Kathy told them. "The blood spatter?" Paul queried. "Puzzle 2, the blood on and around him was his, but the blood spatter on the boxes, not his. Look around his mouth." Kathy suggested. "White powder," Paul said. "Yeah and here," Kathy pointed out to them. "What's that?" Nick asked. "Talc powder. Who ever took him, used latex gloves with talc powder and they duct taped his mouth, when they shot him, and no screaming." Kathy explained. "Damn, anything else." Nick inquired. "Blood and tissue aren't back yet. I'll call you when it does." Kathy replied. "What about Chuck?" Paul inquired. "Suicide," Kathy sighed, sadly. "Poor, kid," Paul said, slightly upset. "Yeah, here's the file, good luck." Kathy said. "Thanks." Nick said. "Later," Paul replied. They left the lab and Kathy behind to finish working on the puzzle. They ran down the stairs to Nick's car and he unlocked the doors. They climbed in and he started the engine. Nick drove to the station down the road. He saw a free space on the left side and pulled in. He turned the engine off and they climbed out. He locked the doors and walked up the stairs and inside. Nick led the way to his desk and they sat down and began to work on the computer. ********************* At the Raven, Scott began to sweep the floor while LaCroix cleaned the bar. Suddenly they stopped; a strong urge filled their senses and looked around. Standing by the staircase was a tall man with brown hair, and green eyes. LaCroix moved away from behind the bar as he approached. Scott stood still and observed the scene. "I'm Nelson." Nelson announced. "A pleasure," LaCroix replied. "Am I addressing Lucien LaCroix?" Nelson asked. LaCroix inhaled, "Yes." "Has a Jamie Bennett made her presence known to you?" Nelson inquired. "She works here. What more is there?" LaCroix inquired. "She's a Dhampir." Nelson told him. "That's only legend, died centuries ago." Scott said. "There existences yes, to protect them." Nelson explained. "Why?" LaCroix asked. "The community was not happy with the fact they could reproduce with humans and vampires. The story ceased and a new one was told they had died off." Nelson briefed them. "And?" LaCroix queried. "Their population is in the safe margin now, and may travel outside the village." Nelson said. "Why here?" LaCroix questioned. "You're existence is well known among us and she became fascinated to the point of wanting to know you." Nelson replied. "I see. Tell me more about her." LaCroix requested. "Her father was a vampire and he loved a human woman. In most cases, the offspring created was male. Jamie was a rarity. She possesses our powers and strengths, but she is immune to the sunlight and our other weaknesses." Nelson told him. "If she remains here," LaCroix replied. "If she remains with you, she will be yours, but be warned. The Enforcer's will not accept it." Nelson warned him. "Too bad," LaCroix scoffed in return. "There angry with you." Nelson inquired. LaCroix scoffed slightly, "Yes." "Nicholas," Nelson questioned. "You know." LaCroix replied, stunned. "Yes. I must go. I will be in touch." Nelson told him. LaCroix smiled, "Thank you." "Take care." Nelson said, warmly. "My pleasure," LaCroix said. Nelson walked up the stairs and outside. LaCroix stood very still, motionless. Scott slowly approached him and stood directly in front of him. He looked deep into his eyes and actually saw fear. "LaCroix, you all right?" Scott asked. LaCroix exhaled, "I'm not sure." "If what he said is true?" Scott inquired. "Enforcer's," LaCroix said. "Have more fear of Dhampir's than anything else." Scott told him. "Instead of breeding our way, I could the mortal way." LaCroix said. "That's why, he's filled with fear." Scott expressed concerned. LaCroix sighed, "True," "Should Nicholas know?" Scott asked. "Not yet. But, I will speak to Jamie first." LaCroix said. "All right, do you need me to help?" Scott inquired. "I'm not sure yet." LaCroix answered. "Let me know. I'm here. Scott told him. Scott finished cleaning the floor while LaCroix walked into the back room up the stairs and closed the door to his room. ********************* Back at the station, Nick and Paul finished putting the file into the computer. Paul finished writing down the notes and Nick shut down his computer for a while. "Where to?" Paul asked. "The crime scene; I want to poke around." Nick answered. "Gloves," Paul replied. "In the glove box, a whole box," Nick answered. "Let's roll. Lead on." Paul suggested. Nick strolled by with Paul behind him walked out of the building and outside. They walked down the stairs to Nick's caddy and he unlocked the doors. They climbed in and he searched for his keys. He started the engine backed out and headed for the crime scene. He parked the car along the curb and turned the engine off. They climbed out and he locked the doors. They walked down the sidewalk to the alley where Tommy been discovered. They stood at the edge of the alley and looked down. They saw junk boxes and trash everywhere. They also saw the white outline of the body with dried bloodstains everywhere. They slowly placed the gloves on and each chose a side. They carefully examined the alley and everything in view. Nick moved up to the boxes that had the blood spatters. He squatted down and pulled out his pen to gently move things around. He noticed a small closed box, but it was up side down. He carefully rolled it over and opened it. Inside the box were bloody rags and a silver silencer to a gun. Nick whistled for Paul to come in his direction. Paul strolled over and stood behind his head. "Look at this," Nick requested. "Whoa." Paul whispered. "Did you find anything?" Nick asked. "No." Paul answered. "Come on, one more sweep then we'll drop this at the lab." Nick suggested. Paul exhaled, "Cool." They carefully made one more search of the alley. Paul noticed a few scuffmarks by the chain fence. They looked around and saw a piece of black cloth embedded in the fence. Paul pulled his hanky and carefully removed it and wrapped it. He placed it into his pocket and they slowly walked out of the alley. They walked back to the car, and Nick unlocked the doors and they climbed in. Nick placed the key into the ignition and started the engine. He pulled away from the curb and headed for the lab. He pulled up along the curb and parked. Paul took the box, and climbed out and ran up the stairs. He walked into the lab and handed the things they found and quickly returned to the car. He pulled away and headed for the nearest pizza place for lunch. He saw a free spot near the front door and parked. Just as he turned the engine off, his cell phone rang. He pulled it out of his pocket and cleared his throat. "Knight," Nick replied. "It's, Michael." Michael said. "Welcome back. Where are you?" Nick asked, eagerly. "Your place; where are you?" Michael told him. "Order some pizza and we'll have lunch there." Nick suggested. "Cool. I'll be waiting." Michael replied. "Bye. Michael's back." Nick told Paul. Paul grinned, "Fantastic, let's go." He backed out of the space and headed home. Michael used his cell phone to order the pizza. As he hung up, Nick came rolling in. He parked the car and turned the engine off. They climbed out and met Michael at the elevator. They greeted each other with warm hugs, and handshakes. They rode up in the elevator to Nick's loft. The door closed automatically behind them. Paul walked into the kitchen, and grabbed a few sodas and met them at the couch. Just as he handed them out, a knock came from the door. Nick stood up and walked over to the door. He opened it took the pizza and paid. He walked back and placed the pizza on the table, and they enjoyed a quiet lunch. "When did you get back?" Nick asked. "Two days ago." Michael answered. "How was the trip?" Paul inquired. "Very relaxing," Michael replied. "Are you back at the club?" Paul asked. Michael smiled, "Yeah." "Great," Paul said. "Anything new?" Michael inquired. "LaCroix's back as well." Nick said. "I heard about that girl." Michael expressed sadly. Nick sighed, "Yeah." "It was rough." Paul whispered. "Is he doing better?" Michael asked. "Yeah; we are on a case right now. How about I call Allen and we do dinner and beers tonight, LaCroix, too." Nick suggested. "Done," Michael replied. "And Molly's for desert." Paul said laughing. "You know it." Nick replied, smiling. "Date set yet?" Michael inquired. "We're talking about it tonight." Nick said. "Let me know." Michael requested. "Always," Nick said, grinning. As they enjoyed light conversation, his phone rang. He excused himself and stood up. He walked over to his phone picked up the receiver and moved into the kitchen to hear. "Knight," Nick answered. "Hey, Nick, it's Kathy." Kathy replied. "What you got?" Nick asked. "Well, the bloody rags matched the blood spatter we found. The silencer I had to send out. We found a print, but we couldn't run it, so the FBI has it. It will be a day or so. Sorry," Kathy told him. "Thanks for telling me, its okay." Nick said, exhaling. Nick quickly hung up the phone and grinned in Michael's direction. Paul looked at him and felt a scheme about to erupt. "What are you brewing?" Michael asked. "That was Kathy. The rags matched the blood spatter, and she sent the silencer to the FBI." Nick said, smiling. Paul inhaled, "Allen." "Yeah. Hold that thought." Nick requested. Nick quickly picked up the phone and dialed Allen's office. He just received the package and begun examining it when his phone rang. He placed it on his desk and reached for the receiver. "FBI, Straton." Allen replied. "Detective Knight." Nick announced. Allen smiled, "Hey, Buddy." "Got the results yet, Kathy called?" Nick inquired. "I just got it, give me time." Allen requested. "Dinner," Nick recommended. "Cool, catch up." Allen replied, happily. "Yeah; Michael's here." Nick told him. Allen exhaled, "Be there in ten or so." "Later," Nick said. Nick hung up the phone and looked to his friends. He told them Allen would be joining them. Paul quickly ordered more pizza and they waited for Allen to arrive. ******************** However, back at the Raven, Jamie walked through the door and down the stairs. She stood by the bar. Suddenly, LaCroix, sitting in the back room felt her presence. He slowly stood up, and moved over to the bar and cleared his throat to draw her attention. Jamie slowly turned around and gazed into his blue eyes. "Jamie," LaCroix replied, softly. "LaCroix," Jamie said. "Are you ready to begin?" LaCroix asked. Jamie smiled, "Always." "All right, one question." LaCroix requested. "That is?" Jamie inquired. "Nelson," LaCroix said, clearly. Jamie inhaled, "He was here." "Yes. Is it true?" LaCroix asked. "What is?" Jamie questioned. She slowly turned away and faced the floor. He felt the uneasiness and walked around the bar. He placed a hand upon her upper right arm and turned her slightly. She slowly looked up and into his eyes. "Jamie." LaCroix replied, softly. "Yes, it's true. I'm a Dhampir." Jamie told him. "Why the fear?" LaCroix asked. "The Enforcer's and you," Jamie answered. LaCroix exhaled, "Why do you fear me?" "You have become a legend among us. The most feared. Then, we heard about Nicholas." Jamie replied. "Nicholas?" LaCroix queried. "Yes, his redemption." Jamie said. "Nicholas is a unique situation, but nothing to fear." LaCroix told him. "True and you," Jamie added. "Why?" LaCroix asked. "You have regained your image, your soul." Jamie replied. LaCroix smiled, "Image, yes, but not my soul, not yet." "I sense something warm here." Jamie informed him. "I see. I have given redemption some thought, but…" LaCroix replied, hesitating. "But?" Jamie inquired. "No decision as of yet," LaCroix replied. Jamie smiled, "Lucien, I…" "I too," LaCroix replied, grinning. They gazed into each other's eyes and slowly kissed each other affectionately. Scott, off to the side, observed the scene and quietly walked away to LaCroix's room. LaCroix explained to Jamie her duties and left her to do them. He slowly left her and strolled pass the bar, up the stairs, and entered his room. He saw Scott standing at the foot of the bed waiting for him. "Scott." LaCroix said. "Was that?" Scott questioned. "What was?" LaCroix asked. "You and Jamie," Scott inquired. LaCroix exhaled, "Yes. Don't worry." "She's the new one in the fold." Scott said. "Yes, I know." LaCroix said, grinning. "LaCroix," Scott said, firmly. LaCroix smiled, "Scott relax; it will be just fine." "Just becareful," Scott warned him. "I shall. Let's get the club up and running." LaCroix requested. "All right," Scott replied, but worried. Scott, uneasy, left LaCroix in his room and went to the bar to help Jamie set up for the night. LaCroix gazed out the window at the dark sky filled with shiny stars. Suddenly, a sharp pain came from LaCroix's stomach and he bent over from the sharpness. It only lasted a few seconds then he straightened, but has never felt such pain like that before. He thought nothing of it so he told no one. He slowly left his room and joined Scott and Jamie at the bar. LaCroix kept his eyes focused on Jamie for he felt that same urge he felt for Vivian long ago. *************************** Back at Nick's loft, all four of them were sitting in the living room enjoying conversation and a six-pack of beer. Allen reached over and tapped the table to draw their attention to him. They slowly quieted down and stared at him. "Okay, I need the story on the silencer." Allen requested. "Okay, Michael if this disturbs you." Nick told him. "Don't worry, I'm okay." Michael replied. "Okay. A few days ago, the four of us were out having breakfast at the griddle. As we were leaving, we heard a gunshot. We sent the girl's home and went to find the scene. Paul saw it first, but we walked into the alley and we saw a twelve year old boy dead. He was shot and lying in a pool of his blood. But when Kathy rolled him over, he had steel shavings in his body." Nick explained. "Steel shavings?" Allen inquired. "Yeah, his father works for the steel mill." Paul added in. "Interesting," Allen replied. "The little boy's name was Thomas Pate." Nick said. Allen exhaled, "Uh-oh," "What?" Nick asked. "Let me guess, Tucker Pate," Allen uttered. "Yeah," Nick answered. "We just got a file on him." Allen told them. "That poor boy," Michael whispered. "I agree." Nick said. "The steel mill is being watched for weapons traffic." Allen replied. "Whoa." Paul said, sighing. "Yeah, call me tomorrow and we'll compare notes." Allen requested. "All right," Nick replied. "Fun time; I've got movie." Paul said, smiling. "Go for it." Allen said. Michael stood up, and walked over to the television and placed the DVD into the machine. He showed them the box and it read, 'West world.' Michael returned to his chair and sat down. They watched and enjoyed the film. LaCroix entered through the door and saw them. Nick stood up and warmly greeted him with slight hug and handshake. He escorted LaCroix to the couch and showed him to the empty seat. "Hey, guys, remember my cousin." Nick said. "Hey, Lucien," Allen said. "Hello," Michael replied. "Join in, Paul pass him a beer." Nick requested. "One beer, then I must rest." LaCroix said. "Done, what's the grin for?" Nick asked. LaCroix smiled, "Nothing," "But…" Nick started. "Later," LaCroix insisted. LaCroix visited with Nick and his friends and watched the film while enjoying his beer. The time had passed slowly, LaCroix had gone to his room to rest as well as Nick while his friends left and went home. Nick was snuggled comfortably under his blankets and sound asleep. The remaining night hours into mid-morning passed rather quickly. Nick's alarm sounded and rolled over to turn the switch off. He rolled back upon his bed, rubbed his eyes awake and rose up out of the bed. He stumbled into the bathroom for a few moments, a flush, then and the shower. He stripped down and stepped into the shower to clean up for the day. He leaned over turned the water off and stepped out. He grabbed his towel and dried off. He wrapped it around his waist and walked back into his room. He pulled out some clothes for the day, dropped the towel, and dressed. He walked into the hallway down the stairs and into the kitchen. As he began to make the coffee, a knock came from the door and Molly entered. She slowly walked in as the door closed automatically behind her. She quietly approached Nick and wrapped her arms around his waist. He turned slightly and kissed her passionately. Molly grinned and leaned upon the counter and waited for the coffee. "My nephew will land about two o'clock." Molly told him. "Okay, if I'm not here, call me. Because of this case, the time is crazy." Nick requested. "Okay, but if you can't go with me, don't worry. It's okay, I understand." Molly explained. "How did I get so lucky?" Nick inquired. Molly laughed slightly, "We're both lucky." "True. We need to choose a date." Nick suggested. "Date?" Molly questioned. "Wedding," Nick said. "We haven't done that yet?" Molly said, stunned. Nick smiled, "No." "How about breakfast with Justin and we'll pick one then." Molly suggested. "Okay." Nick agreed. "We also need to discuss Church." Molly replied. "Church?" Nick queried. "We haven't gone to one, and I would like the wedding in a church or outside if it's a nice day." Molly requested. "How do we find one?" Nick asked. "Do you have a religion?" Molly inquired. "No, I don't think so." Nick answered, hesitating. "Do you believe in God?" Molly asked. Nick smiled, "Yes." "There's a small Methodist church in the city, also a Baptist." Molly told him. "You do the search and we'll add that to the date." Nick said. "Okay." Molly replied. "Coffee," Nick suggested. Molly exhaled, "Always," While they were enjoying the coffee, Nick's phone rang. He placed his mug and walked over to his phone. He picked up the receiver and cleared his throat. "Knight," Nick replied. "Hey, Buddy, I'm at your car, sadly, we got another body." Paul said. "Where?" Nick asked. "One alley from the first one," Paul answered. "Be right down." Nick told him. "Okay." Paul replied. Nick slowly hung up the phone and Molly knew something horrible happened. His eyes displayed the picture quite well. Molly slowly strolled up to him and wrapped her arms around his waist. Nick leaned over and gently kissed her hand. "What's wrong?" Molly asked. "Another body got to go." Nick answered. "Let's go." Molly replied. "Call me later." Nick requested. "All right," Molly replied, warmly. Nick turned the coffee maker off and escorted Molly out of the loft. They rode down the elevator to his car. He saw Paul leaning on his car and helped Molly to hers. He smiled at her as she started the engine and slowly drove away. Nick walked over to his car climbing in and he started the engine. He carefully backed out and headed for the alley Paul mentioned. Nick slowly approached the alley. They taped it off with Jack standing guard. He pulled up along the curb and parked the car. He turned the engine off and they climbed out. He locked the doors and they walked up to jack to get the report. "Hey, Jack." Nick said. "Hi, Nick." Jack responded. "What's the run down?" Nick asked. "We got the call a little while ago about the body. Kathy and the lab are in there already. Report said there was a gunshot." Jack explained. "Okay, thanks." Nick said. Nick and Paul ducked under the tape and stood at the edge of the alley. They carefully walked down and met up with Kathy. She stood up to greet them and removed her gloves. "Hey, Kathy," Nick replied. "Nick, Paul. Well, it's just about identical to the first, but no steel shavings." Kathy briefed them. "None?" Nick queried. "None; one shot, through the heart, but it looks like there was a struggle." Kathy answered. "Anything else?" Paul questioned. "I'll let you know later." Kathy said. "Okay to poke around." Nick asked. "Yeah, just becareful and gloves," Kathy told them. "We will; thanks." Nick replied. "Okay, guys; take the body to the lab." Kathy ordered. As they removed the body, Nick and Paul closely scanned the area. Paul roamed one side while Nick took the other. Paul carefully moved the boxes around when suddenly something fell from one of the boxes. "Nick, over here," Paul shouted. "What you got?" Nick asked. "A silencer," Paul answered. "Another one, bag it," Nick requested. Paul inhaled, "I'll hanky it." "Oh yeah, sorry," Nick said, exhaling. "Let's keep looking." Paul suggested. Nick continued his search and came across a shirt lying on the ground. He pulled out using his hanky and carefully picked it up. He turned to face Paul, and he whistled for Jack to bring a bag. Jack helped Nick bag the shirt, and Paul gave him what he found. Nick asked Jack to deliver those to Kathy at the lab. Nick and Paul quickly left the alley and returned to the car. He unlocked the doors and they climbed in. He started the engine and pulled away from the curb. He observed his surroundings and headed for the station. Nick saw an empty spot along the left side of the building and carefully drove in. He turned the engine off and they climbed out. He locked the doors and they walked along the sidewalk. Nick led the way to his desk and sat down. Paul pulled up a chair and sat along side of him. Nick turned his computer on to warm it up and began to add to the file. Nick danced upon the keyboard when his phone rang. He stretched over and picked up the receiver. He cleared his throat and passed a pen to Paul with the file. "Knight," Nick replied. "Hey, Nick. Nothing back yet, but I ran his fingerprints. His name was, Mark Bergen." Kathy said. "Thanks, Kathy." Nick said. "Well?" Paul inquired. "Kathy said his name was Mark Bergen." Nick told him. "Run it, see what you get." Paul suggested. Nick exhaled, "Okay, hold on." Nick typed the name into the computer to begin a search of his life. Suddenly, it stopped and a full screen appeared. Nick tapped Paul's arm to look at the screen. Nick reached over, and picked up the receiver and dialed Allen at the FBI building. Allen was working on the file when his phone rang. "FBI, Straton." Allen replied. "Allen, Nick." Nick said. "What's up?" Allen asked. "Computer on?" Nick inquired. "Always, why?" Allen queried. "Type in Mark Bergen," Nick requested. "Hold on," Allen suggested. Allen placed the receiver down on his desk and typed in the name Nick gave him. He waited a few moments and the computer stopped searching. Before his eyes was what Nick saw. Allen picked up the receiver and sighed loudly. "Whoa." Allen said, sighing. "Exactly," Nick said. "Mark Bergen, thirty-five years old, works for the Steel Mill. Has 10 arrests, all weapons related." Allen said, reading it to him. "So does Tucker." Nick told him. "Yeah, okay, I'll be returning to join you guys on this one. See you in the morning sometime." Allen said. Nick smiled, "Great, later," Nick slowly hung up the phone and clapped his hands together then looked to Paul. Paul stared back and knew something was up. "Well?" Paul queried. "The Awesome Trio rides again." Nick said, grinning. Paul smiled, "Perfect," "Yes it is. Well, I need to pick up Molly to get Justin at the airport and take them home. I'll meet you at the Forensics building." Nick said. "Okay." Paul replied. "Call me if anything breaks." Nick requested. "Done, have fun." Paul insinuated. Nick inhaled, "Not enough time." "Funny," Paul said, laughing. "Sorry, later," Nick replied. Nick quickly left the station and walked down the stairs to his car. He unlocked the doors and climbed in. He started the engine and backed out. He slowly headed for Molly's apartment complex. Nick saw her waiting outside. He pulled up along side and she climbed in. They gave each other a warm kiss for a greeting. Nick quickly drove away and headed for the airport. "How's the case?" Molly asked. "Nuts. Allen, from the FBI, is joining in." Nick told her. "That big?" Molly inquired. "Getting to be," Nick said, exhaling. "What's the plan?" Molly queried. "Sorry to say, after we pick him up, I'll take you home. Tomorrow, case pending, breakfast then the Aquarium." "Perfect," Nick explained. "I hope so." Nick said, hoping. "With you, it will always be perfect." Molly replied, warmly. "Thank you." Nick said, smiling. Molly leaned over and rested her head upon his shoulder. They slowly drove through the airport entrance to park the car. They climbed out and walked into the airport to find Justin. ****************** Meanwhile, at the Forensics building, Paul had just finished his walk from the station to the lab. He climbed up the stairs and into Kathy's lab. Paul saw a chair near her desk and walked over to it. He slowly flopped into it and exhaled loudly. Kathy looked up from the file and saw him there with his head back and eyes closed. He sat very still and a little sweaty from the walk. "What's wrong with you?" Kathy asked, concerned. "I walked here too fast." Paul told her. "Want some water." Kathy inquired. "Yeah, please." Paul answered. "Hold on." Kathy said. Kathy stood up from her desk, and walked over to the small fridge and opened it. She pulled a bottle of water and closed the door. She strolled back to Paul and handed him the bottle. He opened it and drank it down slowly. He exhaled in relief and smiled up at her. "What's up?" Kathy asked. "Nick asked me to wait for him here; anything back yet?" Paul queried. Kathy exhaled, "Some," "FBI is joining in." Paul told her. "Uh-oh," Kathy replied, slightly nervous. "Yeah, what you got?" Paul asked. "Let's recap. Tommy Pate, twelve years old. One gunshot wound to the heart. He was tied, and gagged with duct tape. The bullet entered from the front to the back." Kathy briefed him. "What?" Paul asked, surprised. Kathy sighed, "Yeah, he saw it coming." "Oh, man," Paul whispered. "His blood and tissue came back all negative. The steel shavings entered his body from the gunshot." Kathy explained. "How?" Paul inquired. "A new weapon, I'm guessing. The barrel is made of steel and when it's fired, not only does the bullet exit, but it carries shavings along with it and enters the body." Kathy informed him. "Unreal," Paul said, exhaling. "Maybe; Mark Bergen, thirty-five years; he worked at the steel mill. He died the same way except for the shavings. He too was tied and gagged." Kathy replied. Paul inhaled, "Two silencers." "Oh yeah, big puzzle there," Kathy said. "How so?" Paul queried. "Welcome, Buddy," "Thanks." Nick whispered. "Molly and Justin?" Paul inquired. "Home safe; how different?" Nick asked. "Hey, Nick. Come look. I got the results back from the FBI lab." Kathy said. "Go on." Nick replied. "The first one, with Tommy, the steel composition is fragile. You can only use it once. That's why the shavings were in his body. The other one is more iron then steel, it won't shed." Kathy explained. Nick sighed, "Odd," "But deadly," Paul added. "We have got to shut that down." Nick said, firmly. "Fast," Paul added. "I'll put this together and fax it to your desk." Kathy suggested. "Thanks." Nick said. Paul exhaled, "I need a beer." "I need to see LaCroix. Let's go, I need one as well. Thanks Kathy." Nick said. "I'll call you on the rest." Kathy replied. Nick and Paul quickly left the lab and ran down the stairs to his car. He unlocked the doors and they climbed in. He started the engine and slowly drove to the Raven. *********************** Nick pulled the caddy up along the curb and parked. He turned the engine off and they climbed out. Nick led the way into the club with Paul at his side. He saw an empty space around the bar, so they walked down the stairs and waited for their beers. Scott saw them and knew what they desired. He carried two beers to them and placed them in front on the counter. Scott looked to Nicholas with concern. "Where's LaCroix?" Nick asked. "Upstairs." Scott answered. "What's wrong?" Nick questioned. "Go talk to him." Scott suggested, concerned. "Paul," Nick replied. "My place is close by. Go see if he's okay." Paul said. "Thanks. Ten o'clock." Nick requested. "Done," Paul said. Nick gulped his beer down and walked into the backroom. When he approached the stairs, he could hear giggling from behind the door. Nick tried not to laugh, but he lightly knocked on the door and carefully opened it. He saw LaCroix and Jamie embraced and laughing lightly. LaCroix saw him standing in the doorway and silently asked her to go. LaCroix stood there and watched her leave then saw the big grin on Nick's face. Nick's cheeks became bright red, and teary-eyed from laughing quietly. Nick slowly moved into LaCroix's direction and cleared his throat. "Care to share?" Nick inquired. "No." LaCroix answered. Nick grinned, "Why?" "I don't kiss and tell." LaCroix told him. "But we're family." Nick replied, slightly hurt. LaCroix inhaled, "True; no." "Scott's worried about you. What's going on?" Nick asked. "He fears the Enforcer's of what they might do, when my decision is made." LaCroix told him. "He's not alone." Nick expressed his concern. "Nicholas," LaCroix said, exhaling. Suddenly, LaCroix hunched over in tremendous pain in his stomach. Nick ran to his side and Scott came running after he sensed the trouble. Nick held him while Scott tried to help. Scott closely examined him, but as the pain slowly subsided, Munzo appeared from the window and witnessed the scene. Scott stood to face him. Nick helped LaCroix to his feet, but held him until he felt strong enough. "What do you want?" Scott asked. "I wish to talk to LaCroix and Nicholas alone." Munzo said. "Let's see, no." Scott replied. "NOW!" Munzo hissed in anger. "Scott, go ahead, but stay close." Nick said. "But…" Scott began to say. "It's okay." Nick replied. "All right, but I'll be right behind the door." Scott told them. "Okay." Nick replied. Scott slowly left after glaring in Munzo's direction. He closed the door and stood there with senses on high detection. Nick looked towards Munzo still holding LaCroix. "You have my attention. What do you want?" Nick asked. "Do you still remember LaCroix's condition?" Munzo questioned. "Yes." Nick answered. "Nicholas." LaCroix whispered. "Rest. What of it?" Nick inquired. "I told him if it remained I would return." Munzo explained. "To do what?" Nick queried. Munzo exhaled, "Erase it." "You will not do a thing." LaCroix ordered, with a slight moan. Nick helped LaCroix sit down in the chair behind him and faced Munzo eye-to-eye with no fear. "Now, I want you to listen to me very carefully. This will be the last time you ever return. I remember everything, my past, the redemption, and LaCroix as well. I choose to remember. I was brought back almost two years ago and here I will stay. You're forbidden to come here, my loft or anywhere, where my world exists. LaCroix, personally, is forbidden to you. He's returning where he belongs. Now, you have two seconds to flee from here, or I will serve you a wooden stake for your trip, permanently." Nick demanded. "You have no right." Munzo replied. "Time's running." Nick said. Munzo exhaled, "I will return." "Time's up." Nick told him. Before Nick could jam the wooden stake, Munzo flew out the window and vanished. LaCroix stood and stared at Nick directly. Scott entered the room and strolled over to LaCroix. "Nicholas." LaCroix said. "What?" Nick asked. "I'm shocked." LaCroix replied, stunned. "Think he's mad?" Nick inquired. LaCroix sighed, "Just a tad." "He'll be back." Nick said. "Yes, with others." LaCroix replied. "Sorry. You okay, what happened?" Nick asked. "It's happened before." Lacroix informed him. "Like you, before, he's not feeding on humans and his body is slowly changing." Scott explained. "His image was first." LaCroix said. "You saw?" Scott inquired. "Yes." Nick said. "Jamie went home." Scott replied. "Why?" LaCroix asked, concerned. "She didn't say. Did you two exchange?" Scott inquired. "Scott." LaCroix replied. "I need to know." Scott insisted. "LaCroix," Nick said. "No." LaCroix answered. Nick sighed, "I thought…" "Jamie's a Dhampir." Scott informed him. "A what?" Nick asked. "Basically, legend, but it's true. Dhampir is half vampire and half human. They have our strengths and senses, but none of our weaknesses. Most Dhampir's are male, but on a rare occasion, a female will be born. If a female Dhampir chooses a male vampire and he drinks her blood from a sterling silver chalice they become joined." Scott explained. "Married?" Nick questioned. "Partly, that comes later. It also allows them to reproduce." Scott said. Nick inhaled, "Whoa." "Yeah. There's more, but he needs to rest after that." Scott suggested. "I'll take him home." Nick said. "I need to see Jamie." LaCroix replied, pleading slightly. "I will get word to her. You go with Nicholas, and no flying." Scott ordered. "Thank you." LaCroix said. "Come on." Nick replied. Nick held LaCroix by his upper arm and slowly helped him out of the club and outside to his car. He unlocked the doors and LaCroix into the car. Nick ran to his side and climbed in. He started the engine and quickly drove home. ********************** Nick pulled into his spot and turned the engine off. He climbed out and ran over to help LaCroix. LaCroix stood still and exhaled slowly. Nick just watched him and held him by the arm. LaCroix placed his hand upon his stomach and rested for a few minutes. "LaCroix," Nick said. "It's all right. It's gone." LaCroix replied. "We need to go inside, sun's coming up." Nick replied, concerned. "Let's go." LaCroix said. Nick and LaCroix walked to the elevator and rode up to the loft. Nick helped LaCroix to the chair for support while he closed the windows to protect him from the sun. Nick ran up the stairs and into LaCroix's room. He opened the door to the small fridge and grabbed a green bottle. He closed the door and ran back down the stairs to LaCroix. Nick pulled the cork and helped LaCroix with the bottle. LaCroix drank the whole bottle down rather quickly. LaCroix handed him the bottle, and Nick placed it on the table. Suddenly, LaCroix straightened and stood firm. He looked to Nick and saw the fear in his eyes. He moved over to him and placed a hand upon his arm to assure him he was well. "You all right?" Nick asked. "Yes, thank you." LaCroix answered. "Jamie?" Nick inquired. LaCroix smiled, "Yes, lovely girl." "Dhampir; what is?" Nick questioned. "Ah yes. What Scott told you is true. It was only legend, but we knew better. The tale goes back about fifteenth century. A male vampire mated with a female human; there would be an offspring. The offspring were mainly male and thought died off. They would also become the Hunters of us. However, in rare situations, a female could be produced and reproduce at the time of maturity. She would have to join with a male vampire." LaCroix explained. "You, but how?" Nick queried. "At the proper time of maturity, a silver chalice is given to them as a gift and they must find one and join to keep the line existing." LaCroix answered. "You?" Nick inquired, stunned. "Yes; Jamie has been interested in me for a long time and has chosen me." LaCroix said, grinning. "But…" Nick started. "By choosing her, I can still seek my redemption, but she must cross over to my direction." LaCroix replied. "You can have a child with her?" Nick queried. "That child would also be a Dhampir." LaCroix told him. "Your decision?" Nick asked. "It has become more difficult." LaCroix said, sighing. Nick exhaled, "Yes." "I'm tired, and need to rest. We'll finish this later." LaCroix requested. "Okay, rest. Let's go." Nick said, yawning. Nick and LaCroix slowly walked up the stairs and down the hall. LaCroix walked into his and closed the door saying goodnight to Nick. Nick strolled into his and stripped down to his pants. He walked into the bathroom and after a few moments, he emerged wearing his nightclothes. He moved over to his bed and pulled the blankets down. He sat down, removed his watch, and set the alarm for the morning. He crawled under the covers and slowly drifted off to sleep. The night hours passed slowly into mid-morning. The sun rose high into the sky and lit up the whole city. The sun shined through the blinds and rolled up his bed into his eyes. When he turned away, his alarm sounded. He reached over turned it off and rolled back onto his pillow. He rubbed the sleep from his blue eyes and gazed up at the ceiling. Nick slowly rose up and sat along the edge of the bed. Suddenly his phone rang. He leaned over and picked it up then cleared his throat. "Knight," Nick replied. "Ebourn," Molly said. "Morning," Nick said, smiling. "Morning; you all right?" Molly inquired. "Yeah, long night," Nick answered. "Do you want to cancel breakfast?" Molly queried. Nick exhaled, "No way. I'm hungry." "All right; I'll set up the Aquarium, is that still okay?" Molly asked. "Yeah; in the afternoon, this morning, I have a few things to do, before we go." Nick requested. "After we eat, I promised Justin a tour of the Museum then about two or so, the Aquarium." Molly suggested. "Perfect," Nick said. "See you in few. Love you." Molly replied, warmly. "Love you, too." Nick whispered, grinning. Nick quickly hung up the phone and stumbled into the bathroom. A few moments passed and then the shower ran. He cleaned up for the day and rinsed out his golden hair. He leaned over turned the water off and stepped out onto the bath rug. He grabbed his towel dried off and wrapped it around his waist. He walked into his room by the dresser and picked out a pair of jeans then a dress shirt. He roamed down the hall walked down the stairs and into the kitchen. He started up the coffee maker when his phone rang. "Knight," Nick said. "Hey, Buddy." Paul replied. "Paul, hey; what's up?" Nick asked. "What's the agenda?" Paul inquired. "I'm taking Molly and Justin out for breakfast. Then I want to examine the scene, and look for witnesses." Nick told him. "Cool. It's nine, about eleven at the alley." Paul suggested. Nick exhaled, "Okay," "I'll take the bus and meet you there; any word from Allen?" Paul replied. "Not yet." Nick said. "We'll call him later." Paul suggested. "Okay, got to go, my phone is on if you need me." Nick told him. "Cool. Have fun." Paul replied. Nick exhaled, "Later," Nick hung up the phone and grabbed his coffee for the ride then turned the pot off. He grabbed his things and placed his gun into belt behind him under his jacket. He left the loft and rode down the elevator to his car. He started the engine and backed out. He drank his coffee while he drove to Molly's apartment. Nick slowly pulled into the lot and found a space near the door. He turned the engine off and climbed out. He walked up the path through the door and down to Molly's front door. He lightly knocked and Molly answered. They greeted each other with a slight hug and a warm kiss. He walked in and saw Justin watching television. Molly closed the door as he passed by her. "Hey, Justin." Nick said, smiling. "Hi, Uncle Nick." Justin shouted, happily. Nick exhaled, smiling, "I like the sound of that." "Good. You'll be a great father." Molly replied, warmly. "What?" Nick questioned. "What, oh no; I mean later." Molly said. Nick smiled, "Good," "You want a family?" Molly inquired. "Oh yeah, but married first, kids the next day." Nick told her. "Whoa, slow down." Molly replied, stunned. "I'll try. Let's go. Justin, you ready?" Nick queried. Justin smiled, "Yes." "Let's go." Nick said, eagerly. Justin turned the television off and ran to Nick's side. Molly opened the door and locked it behind them. They walked down the hall and outside to Nick's car. Justin climbed into the backseat, and Nick opened Molly's and she climbed in. He closed it and climbed in on his side. He started the engine and headed for the Golden Griddle for breakfast *********************** However, at the Steel Mill on the other side of the city, near the waterfront, everyone at the Co-Steel Raritan Mill began their jobs. Upstairs, in the main office, a man had just finished working on a file and two men entered and stood directly in front of him. "All right, guys, did you get the job done?" Owen asked. "Yeah. What's next?" Peter inquired. "Has the father given in yet?" Owen inquired. "After the grief period is over, he will." Kurt answered. "He better, Pete and Kurt, keep an eye on him. Then report everything back to me." Owen ordered. "Sure thing, Owen," Peter said. "Do the cops have any clues yet?" Kurt queried. "There very confused right now." Peter said. "Keep it that way; we only have a few more days to go." Owen said. "Okay. Don't worry." Kurt said. "Cool or join Mark." Owen replied. "Yes, sir." Kurt said. "You two get lost." Owen suggested. "Yes, sir," Peter answered. They quickly left the office and went to find Tucker to keep him under watch. Owen continued with his work. ************************* Nick, Molly, and Justin had just finished eating. Nick placed the money onto the table and they slowly left the restaurant. They walked towards the car and Nick unlocked the doors. Justin climbed into the back while Nick opened Molly's door and she climbed in. Nick closed the door, and strolled over to his side and climbed in. He started the engine and pulled away. He slowly drove them to the Gallery and pulled up out front. "That was a great breakfast." Molly commented. "Yes it was. Justin, how was yours?" Nick inquired. "Awesome, do you have to leave?" Justin asked, sadly. "For now; I'll be back around two. Call me to be sure I'm on time." Nick told him. "Okay." Justin said. "Okay, you call me." Nick said, looking towards Molly. "Yeah, thanks Uncle Nick." Justin replied, smiling. Nick exhaled, "Anytime," "Yes, thank you, Uncle Nick." Molly replied, grinning. "Later, love you." Nick said. "Love you, too." Molly replied. Molly climbed out and helped Justin out of the back seat. They stood on the sidewalk and watched Nick drive away. Molly escorted Justin inside for the tour of the arts. Nick quickly arrived at the alley and saw Paul leaning up against the wall staring off into space. Nick pulled up along the curb and parked the car. He turned the engine off and climbed out. He stepped up onto the sidewalk and stood by Paul's side. They greeted each other with warm handshakes. "How was breakfast?" Paul asked. "Very nice," Nick answered. "Got a date yet?" Paul queried. "No, but we want a fall/night wedding." Nick replied. "Nice," Paul said. "Justin," "He calls me Uncle Nick." Nick said, grinning. "Lucky you; let's go." Paul suggested. Paul moved to the left side, and Nick took the right and they very carefully walked down the alley. They examined every inch and searched every box. Paul tipped a box onto its side and his eyes stunned by the view. He quickly whistled for Nick. Nick stepped over to his direction and looked at what Paul found. Inside the box, an invoice form with blood on it. Nick pulled out his hanky and gently removed the paper. His eyes widen by the name written on it. He tilted it for Paul to read. "Hot damn, Co-Steel Raritan Mill. Now, that makes my day." Paul said. Nick exhaled, "Same here," "Okay, we have two dead, two different silencers and the father works there." Paul replied. "Allen said weapons, illegal guns and maybe, silencers." Nick said. "Oh yeah," Paul sighed. "But, no way to place the two together," Nick said, sighing. "We could show Tucker the silencers. I still say he knows more." Paul suggested. Nick exhaled, "What about his son?" "Wrong place, wrong time," Paul said. "Maybe; Mark, what about him?" Nick questioned. "Wouldn't cooperate," Paul told him. "Maybe; too many maybes," Nick said, slightly frustrated. "Let's knock on a few doors and see what pops." Paul suggested. "Okay, then beer time." Nick said, exhaling. Paul smiled, "Oh yeah; call Allen and Michael to join in." "I'll let them know, and they can decide from there." Nick said. "Done; let's go." Paul replied. "I'll wrap this up and we can drop it off on the way to the Raven." Nick said. Paul nodded his head and he led the way out of the alley with Nick by his side. They divided the streets in search for information, or hopefully, a witness. *************************** Back at the Raven, LaCroix prepared a casual lunch for Jamie and himself. Two champagne glasses with a deep red wine and a candle lit in the middle. The glow shined up the bar. Jamie came walking through the door and down the stairs. LaCroix strolled over to greet her, he extended his arm, and she wrapped her hands around him. LaCroix escorted her to the bar and she sat upon a stool. LaCroix gently picked up the two glasses and handed one to her. He looked into her eyes and grinned. She returned the smile and they clinked the glasses. They said a silent toast and sipped the wine. She placed her glass down, and gazed into his eyes and saw the pain of confusion. "LaCroix, why did you turn away?" Jamie asked. "It's complicated." LaCroix replied. "I can sense you, but it's weak. Something's different." Jamie told him. LaCroix inhaled, "Really," "Nicholas?" Jamie queried. "What of him?" LaCroix inquired. "He's human." Jamie said. LaCroix smiled, "Yes." "Oh, I see; you wish to join him." Jamie replied. "Perhaps," LaCroix whispered. "Who's Vivian?" Jamie asked. "A woman, I once cared for." LaCroix answered. "Human?" Jamie queried. LaCroix exhaled, "Yes." "The Carouche?" Jamie inquired. "Yes." LaCroix replied. "Nicholas's blood is running in your veins." Jamie said, sighing. "Yes." LaCroix said. "I understand." Jamie said, smiling. LaCroix smiled, "Thank you." "My offer stands when you're ready, if you wish to accept it." Jamie told him. "Thank you." LaCroix replied. "But, I wish you the best in whatever road you choose." Jamie expressed warmly. "I appreciate that." LaCroix said. "Thank you for lunch." Jamie said, politely. LaCroix grinned, "My pleasure," "Good day, Lucien," Jamie said. "Take care." LaCroix replied, warmly. Jamie slowly stood up and placed a gentle kiss upon LaCroix's pale cheek. She strolled by him and up the stairs. She bumped into Nick and Paul coming in. She left and closed the door behind them. Paul and Nick walked down the stairs and over to the bar where LaCroix was standing. Nick approached him and slightly squeezed his upper arm in a warm friendly greeting. "What do I owe this visit to?" LaCroix asked. "Two frosty beers," Nick requested, exhaling. LaCroix inhaled, "Oh dear," "We got a break in the case." Nick said. "Michael's out and Allen said tomorrow. He has something on the silencers." Paul informed him. "Okay, just us." Nick replied. "Awesome; so Lucien, any girl yet?" Paul asked. LaCroix exhaled, "No." "Where's Jamie?" Nick inquired. "She left for a while, but she will return." LaCroix replied. "Sorry," Paul sighed. "Nicholas, can you follow me into the back room." LaCroix asked. "Sure. Paul, be back in a few." Nick said. Paul exhaled, "Cool." LaCroix showed Nick into the back room and they stood by the couch. Just as LaCroix was about to speak, Munzo appeared behind Nick. LaCroix rolled his eyes and moved Nick aside. "What is it now?" LaCroix asked. "I sensed your decision on the Dhampir. Good choice." Munzo replied. "For now," LaCroix replied. Munzo hissed angrily, "What?" "As I was about to say before you rudely interrupted me. I have made my decision." LaCroix told him. "And?" Nick asked. "Listen closely; I wouldn't want you to miss a single word." LaCroix said. "That is?" Munzo queried eager to hear. "I have chosen to remain with Nicholas, my son, and friend. I have given the way to redemption. I will walk down that path and you will refrain from here and never, ever return." LaCroix told him. "But…" Munzo started. "No." LaCroix said, firmly. "You heard him; leave while you still can." Nick suggested. "I will leave, but I will be watching you." Munzo warned them. "Whatever," Nick replied. "Now." LaCroix demanded. Munzo stepped back a foot then vanished from sight. Nick moved around to face LaCroix. He looked deep into his eyes. "Are you sure? Once you begin, no turning back." Nick told him. "Yes, Nicholas, I'm sure." LaCroix replied, smiling. Nick grinned, "Welcome back." "Thank you." LaCroix replied, hesitant. Nick and LaCroix exchanged a warm hug. Paul quietly stepped in and saw them. He stood there and watched with a grin. Paul sighed, "Families," "Yeah," Nick replied. "It's so cool." Paul replied, smiling. "Yes it is." LaCroix said. "What's up?" Nick asked. "Allen, he said to meet him at your place." Paul told him. "Why?" Nick questioned. Paul smiled, "Eye witness." "Fantastic," Nick shouted. "Go on; I will see you later." LaCroix said. "Great. Lead on." Nick said, grinning. Paul and Nick quickly left LaCroix and the Raven running outside to his car. He unlocked the doors and they climbed in. He started the engine and headed for home. Scott appeared in the back room after hearing Nick leaving. He stood by his side and waited. "You have decided?" Scott queried. "Yes." LaCroix answered. "You will remain with Nicholas." Scott said. "Yes; If that's difficult for you," LaCroix replied. Scott inhaled, "I promised I would help and I will." "Enforcer's," LaCroix said. "Oh well. You rest, and I'll finish up the night." Scott suggested. "Thank you." LaCroix replied. "May your journey be free of incident," Scott expressed fondly. LaCroix exhaled, "I'll try." "Goodnight." Scott said. "Night," LaCroix said in return. LaCroix returned to his room to rest for the remainder of the day. Scott returned to the bar and finished cleaning up. ************************* Nick arrived at his loft. He pulled in and parked the car. He and Paul rode up in the elevator and they entered the living room. As they made themselves comfortable, Allen arrived and the door closed automatically behind him. "Hey, guys." Allen said. "What's up?" Nick asked. "Beer, please." Allen requested. "Done," Paul said. "Well, apparently you guy's knocked on the right door. I got a call from a guy and he said he saw it all." Allen told them. "Here's the beer. Who?" Paul said. "I can't say, sorry. But, he's away safe and sound." Allen replied. "Not the last place." Nick insinuated. "No, he's far away. Don't worry." Allen said. "The silencers." Paul said. "Oh yeah, Kathy's right. The second one contained iron. It's so quiet, and it leaves very little residue to trace. But, the first, that's the scary one. There's only one, he thinks, when its fired, not only does the bullet hit but it also releases a layer of steel shavings to disfigure someone's face." Allen explained. "Lack of identification." Nick said. "Except for the fingerprints and as always, DNA." Allen added. "True," Paul said. "That needs to be destroyed." Nick said. "Oh yeah, and fast. So, what's everyone doing?" Allen asked. "I'm going home to Carla." Paul said. "Taking Molly and Justin to the Aquarium; you?" Nick replied. "Date with Kathy." Allen said, grinning. "Michaels." Paul said. "Yeah," Allen said. "You be a good boy." Nick said. Allen scoffed slightly, "After you." "You know guys, something's missing." Paul said. "What's that?" Allen said. "Michael has no girl." Nick said. "I'm fine." Michael said. "You're right." Nick said. "We need to fix that." Paul suggested. "No." Michael replied. "Why?" Nick asked. "Its 1:30 and you need to go pick up Molly. Bye guys." Michael said. "Michael." Paul said. "Me too, later; thanks, Nick." Allen said. "All right, wait for me. Later, Buddy." Paul replied. "Bye, guys." Nick said, laughing. Nick's friends quickly left the loft. Nick picked up his things and followed them to the elevator. They rode down, but Nick walked to his car and unlocked the door. He climbed in then backed out and headed over to Molly's place. Nick slowly pulled into the parking lot and found a space near the door. He turned the engine off and climbed out. As he approached the path, Molly and Justin came through the door. Justin ran to Nick and hugged him around his waist. Molly greeted him with a smile and a warm kiss upon his moist lips. "I take it we're ready for some fun." Nick replied. "Yeah," Justin shouted, happily. "The Aquarium and then dinner," Nick suggested. Justin smiled, "Awesome". "Let's go." Nick said. Nick held Molly's hand and Justin led the way to the car. Nick unlocked the doors and Justin climbed into the back seat. Nick opened Molly's door and climbed in. He closed the door and walked over to his side. He climbed in and started the engine. Nick backed out and headed for the JCI Aquarium for some fun and to relax. ************************ However, back at the Raven, LaCroix was sitting in his chair reading and enjoying a glass of wine. Suddenly, a slight knock came from the door and Jamie stepped in then closed the door. LaCroix glanced up and saw her standing there, brown eyed but sad. He closed his book and stood up to greet her. She slowly approached him and LaCroix stared into her eyes. They hesitated for a few moments then embraced each other with a very warm passionate kiss. When separated, they sighed slightly the smile. "Jamie." LaCroix said. "Lucien, please," Jamie said, pleading. "I made my decision." LaCroix told her. Jamie sighed, "I know." "You still wish to be here?" LaCroix inquired. "Yes." Jamie answered. "Why?" LaCroix questioned, terrified. "I love you." Jamie replied, warmly. "It's been so long since I have heard those words." LaCroix uttered. "And?" Jamie queried. "Same here," LaCroix said, exhaling. "Come with me." Jamie said. LaCroix smiled, "Anywhere." "Let's go." Jamie suggested. They left his room, and walked down the stairs walking over to the bar where Scott had finished preparing the glasses. "Scott, will you tend the club this evening?" LaCroix asked. "Sure. Where will you be?" Scott inquired. "Home; Jamie shall we." LaCroix replied. "LaCroix," Scott said, concerned. "Yes," LaCroix said. "Becareful," Scott told him. "I shall. Thank you." LaCroix replied, smiling. LaCroix escorted Jamie out the door and they casually walked to Nick's loft enjoying light conversation. They rode up the elevator and entered the loft. The door closed automatically behind them. Jamie took LaCroix by the hand and led him up the stairs. He showed the way to his room. He closed the door behind them and stood by the foot of the bed. Jamie reached into her pocket and removed the silver chalice. LaCroix finished lighting the candles and stood in front of her. "Jamie, I made my promise of redemption. I will not ignore it." LaCroix told her. "I don't want you to. I want to join your journey." Jamie explained. "Are you sure? Your village and the Enforcer's will not be pleased." LaCroix explained. Jamie exhaled, "Are they pleased with you now?" "No." LaCroix answered. "You won't be alone. I won't allow it." Jamie told him. "All right," LaCroix said. "Let me love you." Jamie whispered. "I'm…" LaCroix replied, hesitating. "So am I. Please." Jamie requested. "All right," LaCroix whispered, accepting. "Let's begin." Jamie requested. Jamie held the chalice out in front of her and she offered her other wrist to LaCroix. He gently took her wrist as his vampire side emerged. He gazed into her eyes and slightly cut her wrist. Her blood dripped into the chalice and he sealed the wound with a kiss. She carefully handed him the chalice and slowly sipped the blood. LaCroix inhaled the essence and purity of her blood. He suddenly felt hot and pain in his stomach. He fell to his knees and wrapped his arms around her legs. Jamie gently rubbed his head. As the pain subsided, he rose to face her. Jamie looked deep into his eyes and slowly rolling down his cheek was one lonely tear. She gently wiped it away with her soft fingers then stroked his lips. Although he felt a strange urge through his body, he leaned over and kissed her with every ounce of passion he had. Jamie took him by the hand and led him to the bed. She began to undress and unbuttoned LaCroix's shirt. They slowly lied across the bed and made love. ********************* Back at Molly's, Nick placed Justin into bed and covered him up. He gazed upon him as he slept. He quietly left the room and closed the door. Nick walked down the hall and joined Molly on the couch curled up with hot coffee. Nick picked up his and sat close to her. "Did you have fun today?" Nick asked. "Yes, very much so," Molly expressed, exhaling. Nick smiled, "Me too." "The cruise is all set; you need to call to pay for it." Molly told him. "My pleasure; Molly," Nick replied. "Yes." Molly whispered. "Have you thought of a date?" Nick questioned. "I still would like a fall wedding, like October." Molly suggested. Nick inhaled, "This year?" "No, next year because we need to plan it just right." Molly replied. "True, you only get married once." Nick said. "Some do, and some don't." Molly replied. "True, for me, one time." Nick told her. Molly smiled, "I do." "I do, now its honeymoon time." Nick said, grinning. "Nick, no more tricks, come on," Molly said, laughing. "That's it." Nick said, ecstatic. "What?" Molly asked. "Halloween night, October 31st." Nick told her. Molly exhaled, "Fantastic". "Yeah, love it. Where do you want to go for a honeymoon?" Nick asked. "Not sure, some place we both, haven't been yet." Molly suggested. "We can do that later." Nick said, yawning. "What do you want now?" Molly inquired. "If we were alone, you," Nick said, smiling. "Tomorrow night." Molly requested. "You're on." Nick replied, grinning. "I love you so much." Molly told him. "I love you more." Nick said. Molly stood up and extended her hand to Nick. They slowly walked to the door and kissed each other affectionately. Molly opened the door and watched Nick walk down the hall then vanish. She closed the door and went to bed. Nick walked over to his car and unlocked the door. He climbed in and started the engine. He backed out and headed for home. Nick pulled into his parking space and turned the engine off. He rode the elevator up to the loft and entered into the living room. The door closed automatically behind him and he placed his things on the table by the couch. Nick turned to walk up the stairs but LaCroix stood at the bottom of the staircase. Nick noticed he has changed, more relaxed and calm. LaCroix walked over to Nick and stood by his side. "What's wrong?" Nick asked. "We need to talk." LaCroix strongly suggested. "I'm listening." Nick said. "Jamie is upstairs." LaCroix told him. Nick smiled, "Really." "Yes, we…" LaCroix started. "You what?" Nick asked. "We're joined." LaCroix told him. "You what?" Nick inquired, stunned. "Wait. Before we joined, I explained to her that my decision of redemption stands. She could join me, knowing this, or leave." LaCroix explained. "And?" Nick questioned, concerned. "We joined, and will take the journey together." LaCroix told him. "What about her village?" Nick inquired. "She left it to be here, with me." LaCroix replied, smiling. Nick inhaled, "The Enforcer's." "Deal with them when the time comes." LaCroix answered. "LaCroix." Nick replied, worried. "Nicholas, please understand. I truly care for her." LaCroix expressed. Nick exhaled, "I know." "Nicholas?" LaCroix queried. "I'm proud that you're this serious about your decision. But mostly, I'm very happy for the two of you." Nick told him. "Really." LaCroix replied, surprised. "LaCroix, you have waited so long. After Vivian, I thought you had given up." Nick said. "No. I promised you and myself. I never thought I would be standing here uttering your words from long ago." LaCroix said, smiling. "I'm like a fungus, I grew on you." Nick told him, happily. LaCroix laughed slightly, "Yes, you did." "Is she aware of the dangers?" Nick asked. "Yes. I explained it all before we joined. There's still one part left, but that comes later." LaCroix said. "Hard to believe," Nick said, sighing. "What's that?" LaCroix asked. "You got married, joined, before me." Nick uttered. "Yes, that's odd. Have you two chosen a date?" LaCroix inquired. Nick inhaled, "You'll laugh." "Do tell." LaCroix requested. "Halloween, next year," Nick replied, softly. "That is ironic, but perfect." LaCroix said, smiling. "You go back to Jamie, and I'm going to bed. I'm tired. Work all day tomorrow." Nick said. "Oh well, I'm taking her home." LaCroix replied. "I'll see you later, becareful." Nick strongly suggested. Nick tapped LaCroix's upper arm and smiled. Nick climbed up the stairs and bumped into Jamie. Shocked by his presence, she hesitated. Nick smiled and lifted her hand up then placed a gentle kiss. "Hi Jamie. He told me and welcome to the family." "Really, thank you." Jamie said, smiling. "Just love and care for him." Nick expressed. "I promise and I won't hurt him." Jamie told him. "Thank you. Goodnight." Nick said. Jamie went down the stairs and embraced LaCroix. He escorted her through door and down the elevator. He slowly walked out side and walked her home. Nick grinned and walked down the hall into his bedroom. Nick strolled into the bathroom for a few moments and exited wearing his nightclothes. He moved over to the side of his bed and placed his watch on the nightstand. He pulled down the covers and crawled under the blankets. He turned the light off and drifted off to sleep. ******************************* The night sky slowly brightened with the morning sun. Clear blue skies not a cloud in sight. A cool breeze danced upon the leaves of the trees and the flowers gave a sweet scent to the air. The sun beamed through the blinds and lit up Nick's room. His alarm sounded and caused him to jump slightly. He rolled over and switched it off. He lied back and rubbed the sleep from his eyes. Nick slowly sat up and climbed out of bed. He stumbled into the bathroom. A few moments passed then the shower ran. He stripped down and stepped into the shower. He moved slightly and turned the water off. He stepped out, dried his entire body off, and wrapped the towel around his waist. He strolled into his bedroom and grabbed his work clothes. He dropped his towel and dressed for the day. When he zipped up, his phone rang. He leaned over and picked up the receiver. "Knight," Nick answered. "Ebourn," Molly replied. "Good Morning." Nick said, warmly. "Morning; I have a small favor to ask." Molly said. "That is?" Nick queried. "I'm getting Justin ready for his trip. He wants to stop by and say goodbye in person. I didn't…" Molly requested. "Tell him, he's not allowed to leave until I see him first." Nick told her. "You're awesome." Molly replied. "So are you, thank you." Nick said. "I'll be there shortly." Molly replied. Nick exhaled, "I'll wait. Take it easy." "Love you." Molly said, happily. "Love you, too." Nick said in return. Nick hung the phone, and slowly left his room and walked down the hall. He strolled down the stairs and into the kitchen to make some hot coffee. A knock came from the door and Paul walked in. He walked across the living room floor and leaned against the counter. Nick carefully turned around and handed Paul a mug of hot coffee A knock came from the door once again, and Justin ran in with Molly a little behind him. Nick placed his mug down and walked towards Justin to greet him. Justin wrapped his arms around Nick's waist and squeezed him. Nick returned the hug and grinned warmly to Justin and Molly. "Going home?" Nick asked. "Yeah; I'll miss you." Justin said, sadly. "Same here, but you will come back." Nick inquired. Justin smiled, "Oh yeah," "Done. There's something in the chair for you." Nick told him. "Thanks." Justin said. "Hey, Love." Nick said, smiling. "You shouldn't have done that." Molly replied. Nick inhaled, "He's my nephew, too." "True. Are we going out for dinner tonight?" Molly asked. "Oh yeah, and very fancy," Nick replied. "What's the occasion?" Molly questioned. Nick grinned, "You." "Love you tons." Molly told him, seductively. "Same here," Nick replied, exhaling. They kissed each other passionately, but Justin came up to Nick and tapped his forearm. Nick stopped kissing Molly and looked down into Justin's eyes seeing the big smile on his face. Nick reached down and helped Justin put on the new Toronto Police T-shirt. "This is great." Justin said. "I'm glad you like it." Nick replied. "Time to go," Molly told him. "Bye, Uncle Nick and thanks." Justin said, sadly. "Until next time," Nick said, smiling. "Yeah," Justin said. "I'll see you about six or so." Molly told him. "Yeah, becareful," Nick suggested. Molly gave Nick a quick kiss and they slowly left the loft. Nick turned about and returned to Paul in the kitchen. He leaned upon the counter and sighed loudly. "What's up?" Paul asked. "LaCroix, I'll tell Molly tonight, but…" Nick started. "What?" Paul inquired. Nick smiled, "He eloped the other night." "Jamie." Paul said. "Yeah," Nick answered. "All right," Paul said, happily. "You knew?" Nick queried. "No, no, but I could see the sparks flying." Paul told him. "True, party for him," Nick suggested. "Oh yeah; here," Paul requested. Nick smiled, "Yeah." "I'll set it up." Paul requested. "I'll tell Scott. Okay, work time. I have a big date tonight." Nick announced. "So I've heard." Paul replied, smiling. "You?" Nick queried. "Quiet night at home; movie, dinner, and…" Paul started. "Enough said." Nick said, cutting him off. "Where to?" Paul asked. "Stop at the travel agency to pay for the cruise and then Forensics." Nick said. "Cool, lead on." Paul replied. Nick scoffed at him and picked up his things from the table. He led the way to the front door and they left the loft. They rode down the elevator and out to his car. Nick unlocked the doors and they climbed in. He started the engine. He backed out and headed for the agency then Forensics. **************************** LaCroix had finished a bottle of blood and placed it into the box. He finished getting dressed when Nelson appeared through the window. He stood there and observed LaCroix. LaCroix turned and saw him jumped slightly from his presence. "LaCroix, we must speak." Nelson requested. "What about?" LaCroix asked. "Jamie." Nelson answered. LaCroix exhaled, "What of her?" "You two have joined?" Nelson inquired. "Yes, the first part is done." LaCroix told him, smiling. "I wish you the best. She has left the village and we're moving on." Nelson said. "Why?" LaCroix queried. "Enforcers know." Nelson told him. LaCroix inhaled, hesitating, "I see." "Jamie is very special." Nelson replied. "She will be well cared for. Have no fear." LaCroix expressed to him. "Thank you." Nelson said. "Safe journey." LaCroix replied. "May you succeed in your quest"? Nelson expressed, warmly. LaCroix smiled, "Thank you." Nelson took to flight back out the window as Scott came running into the room and LaCroix by the window. He sensed the change in him and faced him directly. "LaCroix, Jamie." Scott said. "Yes." LaCroix replied. "Nicholas?" Scott queried. "He knows." LaCroix replied. "And?" Scott questioned. "He's upset because I went first before him and Molly." LaCroix said, grinning. "I see. Are you content?" Scott inquired. "Yes, I believe so. The final part will take place later." LaCroix told him. "Is there anything I can do for you?" Scott asked. "We need to prepare this room for Jamie and myself." LaCroix suggested. "Let's get started then we'll open the club." Scott replied. "Thank you." LaCroix said. Scott followed LaCroix's lead and prepared the room for the two of them to live there. When they finished, they went down the stairs and fixed up the club for the night. **************** Nick and Paul arrived out front of the Forensics building and he pulled up along the curb. They climbed out and Nick locked the doors. They ran up the stairs and into Kathy's lab. When they entered, they saw her sipping tea with a glowing smile. They quietly walked in, and leaned against the slab and waited. Kathy saw them and blushed slightly. She stood up and greeted them warmly. "Hey, guys." Kathy said. "Kathy." Nick replied. "Date was good." Paul said. "He told you." Kathy replied, stunned. "No." Nick answered. "But your face just did." Paul said laughing slightly. "Great," Kathy replied, smiling. "Don't worry its safe with us." Nick said. "Whatever, okay. Let's recap." Kathy suggested. "Cool." Paul said. Before she started to explain the file, Allen walked in from the back room fixing his shirt. Nick and Paul grinned, but said nothing. Allen looked up and saw them. He tried to save the situation, but it was too late. "All right guys, enjoy the moment. But, we need to stop this guy." Allen said. "We didn't say anything, yet." Nick said. "That's what scares me." Allen said. "LaCroix and Jamie eloped." Nick told him. "What? Without us?" Allen said, stunned. "Yeah," Nick whispered. "Party of embarrassment." Allen suggested. Nick inhaled, "Oh; I don't know." "Yeah." Paul agreed. "Guys." Kathy said. "Sorry, go ahead. The floor is yours." Allen replied. "Thank you. Okay, sadly nothing in the blood and tissue analysis. However, on Mark's arrow we lifted a fingerprint. We got one from Tommy, but it smudged. The FBI lab got it and we matched it with the one from Mark's arrow." Kathy explained. "And?" Nick inquired. "Owen Drewen. He killed Tommy and Mark." Kathy said. "Finally." Paul said. "I know Owen, well, of him. Anyway, the Co-Steel Raritan Company has been under watch for six months. They are shipping weapons and they created what we called the shaved silencer, very deadly weapon. When you shoot the bullet and shavings exit as well, they change the pattern of the bullet so we can't trace it." Allen briefed them. "Oh, that has to disappear." Paul said. "What about the witness?" Nick inquired. "Sorry, I had to hide it, but it's Tucker, and I can't tell you where. He gave the whole run down. They bought out the original owner and set up shop two years ago." Allen told them. "Where do the weapons go?" Nick asked. "Foreign countries and gangs out in Florida and California," Allen answered. "Damn." Paul said. "Agreed." Nick said. "How do we bring him out?" Paul inquired. "We may need Tucker to do that." Allen suggested. "You think he'll do it." Paul said. "I'll talk to him and meet you at the station. Date yet?" Allen queried. "Oh yeah, sorry; October, 31st, 2005." Nick told him. "Cool." Paul said. "Perfect, later." Nick said. "Okay, you meet Molly and I'll see you and Allen at the station. I'll put all of this together for Reese." Paul suggested. "I owe you." Nick told him. "Beers, when we're done before the cruise." Paul requested. "Done, later," Nick said, smiling. Nick left Paul behind in Kathy's lab and walked outside. He ran down the stairs and unlocked the doors. Nick quickly drove to the Gautreau Gallery and parked along the curb. He turned the engine off and stepped out. He locked the door walking up the stairs and inside. Nick walked down to Molly's office and stood in the doorway. Nick saw her standing at the filing cabinet reading a file. He quietly strolled in and wrapped his arms around her. She grinned and turned to face him. They kissed each other with affection and stared into each other's eyes. "Hi," Nick whispered. "Hi," Molly replied, softly. "Cruise all paid for. We leave in a week from Thursday and sail to the Bahamas. We sadly come home that Sunday. We have the suite on the bow side, balcony and all the trimmings." Nick expressed lovingly. "Heaven," Molly whispered. Nick grinned, "Oh, yeah." "I have lunch here for us and this is for the door." Molly replied. "What's that?" Nick asked. "A, 'Do Not Disturb' sign." Molly told him. Nick cleared his throat, "What's for dessert?" "You'll see." Molly replied, seductively. "I like already." Nick said, smiling. Molly slowly pulled away and walked over to the door. She hung the sign on the doorknob and closed it. She locked the door and returned to Nick's arms. They kissed each other slowly and enjoyed their lunch then dessert. ******************** Down at the Steel Mill, Owen was finishing for the day when Kurt walked through the door all winded and slightly sweaty. Owen noticed him and stood at his side. "What happened?" Owen asked. "I took Peter out." Kurt answered. "Why?" Owen questioned, angrily. "I saw him selling one of the silencer's to a gang member." Kurt told him. "Good job. You left no clues right." Owen replied. "No, I made it look like the guy did it." Kurt said. "Good. Find Tucker yet." Owen inquired. "He truly vanished. His wife has him on the missing list with the police." Kurt answered. "All right; but keep your eyes and ears open." Owen told him. "No problem. What now?" Kurt asked. "We're closing up for the day because I need to meet the other guy to ship this stuff." Owen explained. "Let's go." Kurt suggested. Kurt and Owen locked up the office and they left the building. Owen unlocked the doors to his truck and they climbed in. He quickly drove to the meeting while Kurt observed the scenery. ********************* Nick and Molly finished their lunch and dessert, and Nick sitting on the desk with Molly between his knees grinning and laughing. Molly picked up the last grape and slowly fed it to Nick. "Thank you for lunch, and dessert was definitely different, but fun." Nick said. "It sure was. Oh, here's the picture of the church I told you about." Molly replied. "Let' see, Parkdale Methodist Church, King St., West." Nick read out loud. Molly exhaled, "Yeah." "Sunday, we'll go and see it." Nick suggested. "Thank you." Molly said. "I feel its time we add that into our lives." Nick told her. Molly smiled, "True," Nick gave his watch a quick glance and saw he was slightly late. Molly stepped away and he stood up to give her the proper goodbye. He embraced her with a very warm kiss and grin. He walked over and unlocked the door. Nick handed her the sign and walked down the corridor then outside. He ran down the steps and unlocked the door. He climbed in and started the engine. He pulled away from the curb and headed for the station. He saw an empty space along the left side of the building and pulled in. He turned the engine off and climbed out. He locked the door and walked up the path to the stairs. He walked up the stairs and inside. He strolled over to his desk hung up his jacket on the back of the chair and saw a note sticking to the computer. The note told him to go to the interrogation room and he was late. He quickly walked down the hall and opened the door. As he opened the door, he saw everyone sitting around the table and drinking coffee. They all stared at him as he entered the room and closed the door behind him. He quietly walked in and sat down next to Paul. "Sorry, I'm late." Nick apologized. "Okay, here are the files. Paul and Allen finished filling them in. Allen has an idea on how to set up Owen. Go ahead." Reese instructed him. "Well, we'll set up another house, you guys and more Feds. Let him think Tucker is there and he'll try to take him out." Allen suggested. "That might work if he doesn't get too close. They need to actually fire and if they get too close, and he don't look like Tucker, it's over." Nick said. "You see, Tucker will be sick in bed and doctors will be coming in and out." Allen told them. "Good idea." Paul said. "Not sure." Nick replied, hesitating. Allen inhaled, "Why not?" "I don't know. He's been very clever up to this point." Nick said. "True, but we need to try." Allen replied. "If it fails?" Nick inquired. "We can't fail." Allen said, strongly. "Can we help?" Paul asked. "Yeah, tomorrow morning, make a trip to the Mill, nose around and drop a hint of Tucker hiding downtown." Allen said. "Okay." Paul said. As they were finishing up, the phone rang on the table. Reese reached over and picked up the receiver. "Reese." Reese answered. "It's Lisa, sorry to interrupt, but we have a body at the Queen Street alley." Lisa told him. "Damn, send out Jack and Tony and call Forensics." Reese ordered. "Already done," Lisa said. "You guys head over to this address. Thanks, Lisa." Reese ordered. Nick led the way out with Paul and Allen close behind. They left the building ran down the stairs and over to Nick's car. Allen jumped into his truck and followed Nick to the alley. Nick approached the alley and saw Jack standing guard. Tony finished taping the alleyway and Forensics just pulled up and parked in front of him. Nick turned the engine off and they climbed out. Allen met them at the hood of the car. They walked up to the tape and stared down the alley. It was a horrific sight. Blood everywhere and two arrows in the body. There were many bullet holes in the surrounding boxes also covered with blood. Kathy handed them some gloves and they carefully approached the scene. "Definitely overkill." Paul said. "Uh-oh," Allen uttered. "What?" Nick asked. "It's Peter Hallett." Allen answered. Paul exhaled, "Who?" "Peter Hallett. He was one of Owen's men; damn." Allen said. "Great; now what?" Nick questioned. "Set up and put him down, permanently." Allen suggested. "Agreed." Paul said, firmly. Kathy slowly stood up and walked up to Nick and the others. She pulled her gloves off and sighed loudly. "Well guys, this time he made a real mess; two arrows through the heart, a lot of holes, and steel shavings everywhere." Kathy said. "Damn." Allen whispered. "Getting blood samples is next to impossible. His blood is everywhere." Kathy replied. "We already know who it was." Allen said. "Nick, we found this." Tony replied. "Thanks Tony. Allen, what do you make of this?" Nick asked. Allen exhaled, "Sartoba, don't know." "Florida?" Paul inquired. "A place," Allen replied. "Wait, you said a shipment." Nick said. Allen inhaled, "Boat." "Yeah," Paul said. "Okay. I'll head back to the office and trace this; your place at ten." Allen suggested. "Done, before the set up," Nick agreed. "Yeah, later," Allen said. "Cool. Hey, man, its five o'clock, you need to get Molly." Paul told him. "Yeah, my suit is at her place." Nick said. "Cool. I'll finish here, you go on ahead." Paul suggested. "You sure?" Nick queried. "Yeah; tonight's important, go on." Paul replied, smiling. "Thanks." Nick said. Nick slapped Paul on his back and quickly left for his car. He unlocked the door and climbed in. He started the engine and pulled away from the curb. He quickly drove to Molly's apartment complex. ************* Nick pulled into the lot, and found a spot near the front door and parked. He turned the engine off and climbed out. He walked up the path through the door and down the hall to Molly's front door. He knocked lightly and she answered the door wearing a gray sweat suit. "Love the clothes." Nick said, grinning. Molly laughed, "Funny. Come on." Nick strolled by her and she closed the door behind him. They stood by the couch and she could see the tension in his eyes. She wrapped her arms around his waist and looked into his eyes. "What's wrong?" Molly asked. "Another body," Nick answered. "I'm sorry. Do you want to stay home tonight?" Molly inquired. "No, I need to go out. I need to shower first, get dressed then we'll go." Nick said, sighing. "Okay. Can I help?" Molly replied, seductively. "Join me." Nick replied, grinning in return. Molly smiled, "Lead on, sir." Nick took Molly by the hand and escorted her to the bathroom. He started the shower and they slowly stripped down. They carefully stepped into the shower and cleaned up. Molly massaged his back and the heat of the water intensified their passion they made love in the shower. Nick reached down and turned the water off. They stepped out and dried each other off. Molly left the bathroom, but Nick hesitated a few moments. He met Molly in the bedroom and got dressed for dinner. Nick put on his black suit and purple shirt. Molly slipped into her black evening dress with spaghetti straps and her black shawl. She wore her diamond earrings gold chain around her neck and her diamond bracelet. Nick slowly approached her and gently kissed her head. "You look so handsome." Molly said. Nick inhaled, "And you're a vision of perfection." "Thank you." Molly said, happily. "Let's go." Nick replied, eagerly. Nick escorted Molly out of the apartment down the hall and outside. They walked to his car and unlocked the door. She carefully stepped in and he closed the door. He started the engine. He backed out and headed for the restaurant, Splendido. ******************* At the Raven, LaCroix stood at the bar and waited for Jamie. She came through the door and walked down the stairs. She strolled over to LaCroix wrapped her arms around him and they kissed with great affection. "Hello." LaCroix said, smiling. "Hi. I'm here to stay." Jamie replied, happily. "I'm pleased. I have a surprise for you." LaCroix told her. "For me, why?" Jamie queried. "Because, I love you and I want your stay here to be a pleasant and a long one." LaCroix expressed warmly. "Show me." Jamie requested, smiling. LaCroix took Jamie by the hand escorting her into the back room and up the stairs to his room. He opened the door and they walked in slowly. Her eyes filled with amazement and joy. Jamie held LaCroix as tight as she could and kissed his cheek firmly. Jamie scanned the room, it was a royal blue trimmed in gold with a little lace. The bed was bigger and had a comforter with many pillows. In the middle of the room a couch and full entertainment center. It felt like home for her and LaCroix. "I trust you are pleased?" LaCroix inquired. "It's perfect." Jamie said, teary-eyed. "I'm glad. You finish placing your things and I will help Scott with the club." LaCroix replied, happily. "Will you come back before you open?" Jamie asked. "Sure," LaCroix answered. "We need to consummate the new home." Jamie told him. LaCroix grinned, "All right." LaCroix placed a gentle kiss upon her forehead and slowly left the room. Jamie, however, began to move her things into her dresser and the closet. LaCroix entered the club and saw Scott cleaning the bar. He joined him and prepared it for later. Nick and Molly were escorted to, 'The Cellar' room at Splendido. They waiter seated them and took their order. Nick poured the wine and they made a silent toast one another. Their table ran along the wall under a window and you could see across the water. The room lit up with candles and soft piano music in the background. Nick slowly stood up from his chair and extended his hand to Molly. She accepted; they strolled to the dance floor and danced the night away. ********************* The hours passed after he took Molly home, he slowly drove home and climbed into bed for some rest. The sun rose and shined into his room. The alarm sounded off, so he rolled over and turned it off. He sat up and crawled out of bed. He stumbled into the bathroom and hesitated a few moments. The shower water ran and stepped in under the water. He slowly cleaned up and rinsed out his golden hair. He leaned over and turned the water off. He stepped out grabbed his towel and dried his entire body. He wrapped the towel around his waist and moved into his room. He walked over to his dresser and grabbed clothes for work. He tossed them onto the bed, and dropped the towel and dressed. Suddenly, his phone rang as he finished buttoning his shirt and fixed his belt. He reached over, and picked up the receiver and cleared his throat. "Knight," Nick answered. "Ebourn," Molly replied. "Morning," Nick said. "Morning, last night was heaven." Molly expressed lovingly. Nick smiled, "It sure was." "What's your agenda for today?" Molly asked. "The guys are on their way here and we're going to shut down Owen." Nick told her. "That sounds dangerous. Please, becareful." Molly replied, scared. "Always; you?" Nick inquired. "Work and more work." Molly answered. "I hear you. Are you coming here tonight?" Nick asked. "Do you want me to?" Molly queried. "All the time," Nick said, eagerly. "Cute. Yes, I'll be there and I will have a surprise for you." Molly told him. "I can't wait, I love surprises, and I love you." Nick replied, warmly. "Love you, too." Molly whispered. As he hung up the phone, he heard the door open. He walked down the hall and the stairs. At the counter, he saw Allen and Paul drinking coffee. Nick approached the counter and Paul handed him his coffee. "Morning, guys." Nick said. "How was last night?" Paul asked. "Awesome," Nick said, smiling. "Last night?" Allen queried. "We went to the Splendido for dinner." Nick told him. Allen exhaled, "Whoa." "It was very nice." Nick said, beaming. "Okay. Kathy called me this morning and she said Owen was involved and she found another set of prints." Allen informed them. "And?" Paul asked. "Try this one, Kurt Rynne." Allen replied. "Damn. He came back, just like he said he would." Nick said. "He sure did." Allen said in return. "Who's Kurt?" Paul asked. "He's the one who began the Jewel heist, a while back." Nick reminded him. "He was one of the driver's from the kitchen store." Allen said. "No way," Paul said. "Yeah. How do you want to play it?" Nick asked. "Okay, this is where we have the set up, the small building on Dupont Street number 52. You two take a tour, talk about the silencers, slightly mention the shavings and drop this card, use the bathroom or something. It has the address and I wrote Tucker's name on it." Allen explained. "Very simple," Paul said. "Yeah. Becareful, three dead, and it won't take much for him to do it again. After all, he killed a kid." Allen expressed strongly. "Does Tucker know how Tommy died?" Paul asked. "Yes. He's pissed and he wants him gone." Allen said. "I don't blame him." Nick replied. "Okay, one of you will wear this." Allen said. "What's that?" Nick asked. "It looks like a pin, but it's a transmitter. I'll be a few feet away; I need to hear the tour. Casually describe things, if you can." Allen informed him. "All right," Nick whispered. "Who wants the pleasure"? "I will." Paul said. "All right, come over here and I'll fix you up." Allen requested. Paul moved over to Allen's direction. He stood up and faced him. Allen placed the pin under his shirt collar. He fixed the shirt and stepped away a foot or so. He examined his shirt and saw nothing revealing. "Okay, problem is, if you need to go, you'll have to wait. Nick, you drop the card." Allen suggested. "Okay." Nick said. "Give me about a thirty minute head start before you go in." Allen told them. "Okay." Paul answered. "All right, if there's any sign of trouble, any, get out fast. We're there." Allen told them. "Okay." Nick said. "Later, beers before Molly," Paul suggested. "Here, okay," Nick requested. "Done," Allen agreed. Allen slowly left the loft and rode down the elevator then outside. Nick stood by Paul's side. He tapped his arm and drew his attention to his eyes. "Hey, you okay with this?" Nick queried. "Hell yeah; pray I don't need to take a leak." Paul replied. Nick smiled, "I will. Come on." Nick and Paul left the loft and rode down the elevator. They walked outside to his car and he unlocked the doors. They climbed in and he started the engine. Nick backed out and headed for the Steel Mill. ************** As they approached the Mill, Allen flashed his lights to let them know he was there. Nick slowly drove into the lot and parked near the front door. They climbed out and he locked the doors. They strolled up the path and entered the building. A receptionist was sitting at her desk working on the computer. They quietly approached her and she glanced up. She greeted them with a smile. "Hi, Miss. Jones," Nick replied "Can I help you?" Miss. Jones asked. "This is Detective Coletti and I am Detective Knight. We would like to see Mr. Owen Drewen." Nick requested. One moment please," she requested. Miss. Jones dialed Owen's office and announced their presence. She slowly hung up the phone and cleared her throat. "He'll be with you in a few minutes." She told them. "Thank you." Paul said. They quietly stepped away and waited for him. They carefully examined the area and noticed all the paintings resembled violence from history. Suddenly, a man appeared from the back and walked up to them. He cleared his throat to draw their attention away from the painting. "Can I help you?" Owen asked. "Yes sorry, interesting painting. I'm Detective Knight and this Detective Coletti. Are you Owen Drewen?" Nick asked. "Yes. Is there a problem?" Owen inquired. "No. We found these silencers and we were told they were made here, so we're checking it out." Paul said. "I see; follow me please." Owen requested. "Sure". Paul said. Owen walked them through the door down the corridor and entered a small office at end on the right. They sat down and Owen moved behind his desk and sat down. "Do you have them with you?" Owen asked. "No, there at the evidence building; one of these shoots steel shavings as the bullet exits the gun." Nick told him. "Yes, that's our new product, we haven't made too many of those." Owen said. "How many have you made?" Paul asked. "Six dozen." Owen answered. "Can we see the area where they're made?" Nick questioned. "Ah, sure, follow me." Owen replied, hesitating. Owen stood up walking over towards the door and opened it. Nick and Paul walked through and Owen closed the door behind them. "Before we go there, can I use the men's room?" Nick asked. "Sure, it's on your left. We'll wait outside for you so you don't get lost." Owen insinuated. "Thanks." Nick replied. Nick quickly stepped into the men's room and hesitated a few moments. He flushed the toilet washed his hands and dried them off. He placed the card next to the faucet and left. He walked out and they continued to the room. Owen stopped in front of a door with a glass window. You could see the whole room, in the center a huge assembling machine, and to the left, a huge melting pot still smoking. To the right a group of people assembling and packing them into boxes. They looked very closely and began the third degree on Owen. "What's in the pot?" Paul asked. "That where we melt the steel and it will be poured into the molds and run through the machine. They would be cut, and cooled then inspected. If they pass, they go to that group pf people to assemble them and pack them up for shipping." Owen explained. "Assemble?" Nick queried. "The shredder, we call it, is actually two parts. You have the outside, the silencer and the inside which shreds when fired." Owen told them. "Who gets these?" Nick asked. "No one yet. We're hoping to sell them soon." Owen replied. "Cool." Paul said, amazed. "Is your factory one floor?" Nick asked. "No, the office and drafting are upstairs." Owen answered. "Do you have a pattern, formula for the shredder?" Nick questioned. Owen exhaled, "Yes, but that's top secret." "Wow, do you know Tucker Pate?" Paul inquired. "Tucker, I've heard the name." Owen said, stunned. "Yeah, he's a friend and he spoke of it. Not much detail but that's so cool. Can I order one?" Paul queried. "Sure," Owen said. "I need to check finances and then I'll call you." Paul said, smiling. "All right; well, I need to get back to work. I'll show you the way out." Owen told them. "Thanks for the tour." Nick said. "Glad, I could help. Follow me." Owen requested. Owen quickly escorted Nick and Paul to the lobby. He watched them leave and climbed into the car. Owen went back inside to his office, but Kurt appeared and showed Owen the card Nick left behind. Nick started the engine and hesitated a few moments. He pulled out his cell phone and dialed up Allen. "Straton." Allen said. "Did you get all that?" Nick asked. "Yeah; tell Paul smooth move. Where's the pin?" Allen inquired. "Allen said, Cool move, where's the pin?" Nick asked. "Oh that, I stuck it in the chair; keep listening." Paul said, smirking. "He stuck it in a chair." Nick replied. "All right," Allen said, happily. "I need to go." Paul said. "Meet you at the station." Nick said. "Later," Allen replied. Nick quickly hung up and put his phone back into his pocket. He started the engine and quickly drove to the station. Allen followed closely behind him. Nick saw a spot along the side of the building. He drove in and turned the engine off. They climbed out and met Allen on the stairs. They walked up inside. Paul made a slight stop to the men's room while Nick and Allen strolled over to his desk. Nick sat down and Allen pulled up a chair and sat along side. Paul came running and sat on the other side of Nick. "Okay, you dropped the card and he's got it." Allen said. "You can still hear them." Paul said. "Yeah, it's a little vague, but I can hear them. Hold on." Allen said. "What?" Nick asked. "Okay, about midnight, they will hit the set up." Allen told them. "Okay. Where do you want us?" Nick questioned. "You two will join me inside; let my people handle the rest." Allen instructed them. "Let's set up and give it to Reese." Paul replied. "Let's start." Allen said. They all very carefully planned how to take Owen down. Reese saw them from the office window and strolled out and over in their direction. He leaned upon the desk and watched the plan fall into place. ***************** However, at the Raven, LaCroix left the bar, and returned to his room and closed the door behind him. He saw Jamie curled up on the couch with a book lying in her lap and sound asleep. He grinned and quietly walked over sitting along the edge. She felt his presence and woke up. Jamie greeted him with a warm smile and sat up slightly. "You all right?" LaCroix asked. "Wonderful," Jamie answered. "I'm pleased. May I offer you anything?" LaCroix inquired. "No, I'm fine; everything ready." Jamie queried. "Yes." LaCroix replied. "I'll be there in a few." Jamie told him. "Are you sure?" LaCroix asked, smiling. Jamie exhaled, "Yes." Jamie reached up and passionately kissing LaCroix as he returned the gesture. Suddenly, Jamie stopped and looked all around the room. "What is it?" LaCroix asked, concerned. "Nelson," Jamie said. "Where?' LaCroix inquired. "Window," Jamie answered, looking towards it. "Hello." Nelson said. LaCroix exhaled, "I thought we were finished." "We are, but I needed to see Jamie before I go." Nelson requested. "All right," LaCroix replied. "I'll see you downstairs." Jamie said. LaCroix stood up and extended his hand to Jamie then she stood up. He kissed her hand and left them alone as he went downstairs to the bar. Nelson walked closer to Jamie and saw the love in her eyes. "You are content now?" Nelson inquired. "Yes, father. Thank you." Jamie answered. "I must go now, so you can be safe." Nelson told her. "We love each other. We will be fine." Jamie assured him. Nelson inhaled, "If he ever…" "He's a warm caring man, father. He would never harm me." Jamie replied. "All right; you know how to reach me." Nelson suggested. "Yes. Love you, father." Jamie replied, warmly. "Love you, Jamie. I wish you the very best." Nelson told her. "Thank you, father; safe journey," Jamie replied, smiling. They embraced each other warmly and Nelson took to flight then vanished. She slowly left their room and joined LaCroix at the bar. He saw the deep sadness her eyes and became very concerned. "Jamie." LaCroix uttered. "He left." Jamie said, sadly. "Who was he to you?" LaCroix asked. Jamie inhaled, "My father." "You're father." LaCroix replied, surprised. "Yes; as you are to Nicholas." Jamie told him. "And?" LaCroix inquired. "He gave us his blessing and left." Jamie said, warmly. "You all right with this?" LaCroix asked. "Yes. Let's finish up." Jamie said, happily. "All right," LaCroix said, exhaling. They finished setting up the stools and turned all the colored lights on. Scott prepared the bar and Jamie stood at the bar ready for business. ********************** Back at the station, they had just finished what was about to take place. Nick's phone rang and he stretched over to pick it up. "Knight," Nick answered. "Ebourn," Molly replied. "Hi." Nick said, grinning. "Still working?" Molly inquired. Nick exhaled, "Yeah, all nighter." "Want me to stay here?" Molly asked. "Please." Nick said, slightly pleading. "I'll be waiting. Becareful, love you." Molly told him. "Love you, too. Goodnight." Nick said, sighing. "Everything okay?" Paul queried. "Molly, yeah, I think so." Nick replied, hesitating. "Okay, let's roll and remember all that we planned." Allen said. "Let's go." Paul replied. Nick hung up the phone and they slowly left the building carrying out their plan. They ran for Nick's car. Paul and Allen in the rear and Nick drove. He started the engine and pulled away. He drove quickly to the set-up place and parked along the curb. They climbed out and held Allen's arm as though he was a prisoner. They escorted him inside down to the corner apartment. Nick unlocked the door, and they walked inside and Paul closed the door. Nick made sure it was safe and all the windows were covered. Paul and Allen sat on the couch and Nick turned the television on to the news. They sat there for hours and waited. The hours passed very slowly and Nick looked at his watch. He noticed it was well after midnight, and leaned over to Allen. He showed him the watch and Allen tapped Paul's leg. "It's late." Nick said. "We have this place all night, we need to…" Allen replied. Suddenly, there was a knock on the door. Nick took Allen into the other room and left it open slightly. Paul staggered to the door and stood off to the side. He quietly pulled out his gun and took the safety switch off. "Yeah, it's late. Who is it?" Paul hissed angrily. "Checking in," Owen said. "Yeah, yeah, hold on," Paul said. Paul carefully unlocked the door and hid his gun behind his back. Owen and Kurt walked in. They saw Paul and Kurt aimed his gun to his face. "Hand it over." Kurt ordered. "What?" Paul inquired. "Don't be funny." Kurt insinuated. Paul handed his gun over and Kurt tossed him onto the couch. Kurt kept his gun and Paul's aimed directly on him, while Owen stood off to the side. "Where is he?" Owen asked. "Who?" Paul queried. "One more time; where is Tucker?" Owen demanded. "Oh, him, safe-house," Paul answered. "Last change," Owen said. Just as he was about to approach Paul, Nick and Allen quietly came from the back room and placed their guns into the middle of their heads. They instantly froze, and handed their guns to Paul. "Thank you." Paul said, smiling. "Take the phone and dialed 8 star," Allen told him. "Okay." Paul replied. When Paul took his phone and dialed eight star, men came running in from all sides and took Owen and Kurt away. Nick replaced the safety switch on his and stuck it in his belt in the back under his jacket. Allen gave Paul his gun and he quickly fixed it. He placed it into the holster. "You guys did a great job." Allen said, proudly. "We make a great team." Nick said. "True," Paul agreed. "Okay, my place for beers and Molly there's waiting." Nick replied. "Better idea, you go home to Molly and we'll do lunch at the Raven." Allen suggested. "Done, I'm beat." Paul said. "Same here, done." Nick said. "We'll meet at the station about eleven. I'll tie it up at the FBI office, but we'll do the Raven before the FBI. Okay." Allen suggested. "Let's go." Nick replied. "My truck is at your place." Paul told him. "Okay. What about you?" Nick queried. "I'll ride with the guys." Let's go home." Allen answered. They left the building, Allen left with the other agents, and Nick and Paul walked to Nick's car. He unlocked the doors and they climbed in. He started the engine and slowly drove home. Nick and Paul gave each other a warm handshake and Paul climbed into his truck and drove away. Nick stepped into the elevator and rode up to his loft. He entered the living room tossed his keys onto the table by the couch. He placed his gun into the small drawer. He slowly climbed up the stairs and down the hall. He quietly strolled into his bedroom and saw Molly sound asleep. Molly fell asleep with the light on and an open book lying on Nick's pillow. He strolled into the bathroom for a few moments and exited wearing his nightclothes. He gently removed the book and slowly crawled under the covers. Molly woke up slightly and saw him lying next to her. "Nick." Molly whispered. "Molly." Nick said. Molly embraced Nick with every ounce of energy she had. Nick returned the same hold to reassure her he was fine. He backed up slightly and looked into her eyes saw she had been crying. "What's wrong?" Nick asked. "I was scared." Molly replied, upset. Nick sighed, "I'm sorry." "I'm just glad you're safe." Molly said. "I'm always safe with you, but as a cop," Nick replied. "I know. It's okay." Molly replied, smiling. "Are you packed?" Nick questioned. "All by the front door," Molly told him. "Are you staying until we leave?" Nick inquired. Molly exhaled, "I want to stay period." "Move in, but you said," Nick replied, stunned. "I know." Molly whispered. "Is it because of us or the fear from tonight?" Nick asked. "Both. Mostly you," Molly answered. "Are you sure?" Nick questioned. "Yes; if it's still all right with you?" Molly queried. "All right; I'm thrilled. This is the best thing to come home to." Nick told her. "Love you, tons." Molly replied. "Same here and more; oh, LaCroix eloped with Jamie, he lives there, but his room is still here." Nick told her. "Great, I don't want to lose him as well." Molly replied, happily. "Molly." Nick whispered, breathing erratic. "Please, show me." Molly requested. "My pleasure," Nick said, smiled widely. Nick and Molly consummated their new journey in life; living together until their wedding day, then live together as husband and wife. The early morning hours slowly moved into daytime. They held each other the whole time. They had glowing smiles and the light never turned off. Nick slightly stretched slowly waking up and saw Molly laying there all smiles. He gently stroked her hair and glanced at his clock. He saw it was almost ten. He carefully climbed out from under her and strolled into the bathroom. A few moments passed then the shower ran. He stepped in for a quick shower rinsed his hair and stepped out. He grabbed his towel and dried off. He wrapped the towel around his waist and strolled back into the room. He walked over to his dresser and grabbed his jeans and a shirt. He tossed them onto the bed. Molly felt the motion and woke up. She saw him standing there with just a towel on. She grinned and gave a slight giggle. "Morning," Nick said. "Love the towel." Molly replied, grinning. "I would love to, but I'm late. I need to finish the paperwork, see LaCroix then we will be together for 10 days on a cruise." Nick told her. "Even longer then that," Molly reminded her. Nick exhaled, "True," "I'll be here waiting." Molly said. "That alone makes it all worth wild." Nick expressed warmly. "Hurry up and come home." Molly replied. Nick smiled, "Oh yeah, Nick dropped his towel and she watched with a grin. He got dressed for work while Molly strolled into the bathroom to clean up for the day. Nick strolled into the hall down the stairs and over by the table. He picked up his things and his phone rang. "Knight," Nick answered. "You're late." Paul said. "I'm on my way now." Nick told him. "Molly." Paul inquired. "Tell you later, at the Raven. Bye." Nick said. Nick hung up the phone and quickly left the loft. He rode down the elevator and walked out to his car. He unlocked the door and climbed in. He started the engine and backed out. He drove quickly to the station. He parked along the curb and turned the engine off. He climbed out and ran up the stairs. He walked to Reese's office where everyone was waiting for him. He knocked once entered and sat down next to Paul. He noticed the big grin upon Nick's face. "Sorry, I'm late." Nick apologized. "Okay, Allen started the run down." Reese said. "Okay, Owen and Kurt are being held at the Fed building until the trial. Tucker and his wife were given new lives, and sadly three died." Allen explained. "Nick." Reese requested. "We sat at the house, a knock on the door, Allen and I ran into the other room. When Paul became the target, we jumped out, guns drawn and they surrendered." Nick briefed him. "Paul." Reese replied. "Like he said, quick and clean," Paul added. "Great, finish up the paperwork and you take a copy to the Fed then send me one." Reese said, relaxing. "No problem." Allen said. "Cool." Paul replied. "Let's go." Nick agreed, eagerly. Nick led the way out of Reese's office with Paul and Allen close behind. They walked over to Nick's desk to finalize the file. Suddenly, Reese stood up, and peeked his head out and yelled into Nick's direction. "Knight, Coletti. Enjoy the vacation time. You got two weeks each." Reese ordered. "Thanks, Cap." Nick said. "Thanks, Cap." Paul said in return. Reese slowly stepped back and closed the door. They finished the file and handed it to Allen. They shut down the computer and fixed their desks. They quickly left the building and ran down the stairs. Nick and Paul climbed into the caddy and Allen climbed into his truck. They started the engines and drove to the Raven. Nick pulled up along the curb with Allen behind him. They turned the engines off and climbed out. Nick led the way in; they ran down the stairs and bumped into Scott. Scott prepared their beers and leaned over to Nick. "He's upstairs." Scott said. "Everything ready?" Nick inquired. "Almost," Scott answered. "What's going on?" Allen asked. "Two things. One, LaCroix and Jamie eloped." Nick said, happily. "Cool." Paul replied. Allen exhaled, "Awesome". "And two." Paul said. "Molly surprised me by moving in." Nick said, grinning. "That's perfect." Paul said. "It really is. I'm so thrilled for you man." Allen said, sharing warmly. "Party time," Paul replied. "Scott, ask LaCroix to come down. He doesn't know about Molly yet." Nick requested. "Here's the wine and five glasses. You pour and I will get the guest of honor." Scott told him. "Cool. Hide guys. If he sees you two, he'll know." Nick said. "Okay. Allen, duck down." Paul replied. "Nicholas." LaCroix said. "LaCroix," Nick said. "What's this?" LaCroix asked. "A celebration brewing," Nick told him. "Surprise!" Paul and Allen yelled. "What are we celebrating?" LaCroix asked. "Well, case closed; you and Jamie being joined." Nick said, proudly. "Thank you; and?" LaCroix queried. "And, Molly moved in today." Nick announced. LaCroix smiled, "Wonderful," "Okay, toast and I'm going home to pack." Paul said. "Yeah, and I have to work." Allen said, pouting. "Sorry," Paul said. "A toast, to the blessings and gifts we were each given. To happiness and contentment," Allen recited. "Thank you." LaCroix replied, warmly. They each touched glasses and drank to the toast. Scott left to finish up in the back room. Allen and Paul bid their farewells to Nick. Nick and LaCroix left alone to celebrate their blessings. Nick slowly lowered his head and stared into his glass. "Nicholas, what's wrong?" LaCroix asked. "I find it hard to believe at times." Nick replied, hesitating. "What?" LaCroix questioned. "I'm human, my job, friends, Molly and you, a wife, possibly a family. I'm afraid I will wake up and it will all be a dream." Nick said, scared. "I…" LaCroix uttered. "Yes; we fought for centuries and now, we're family; the closest we have ever been." Nick expressed fondly. "Yes, I have this club, friends, you and Molly, but mostly Jamie." LaCroix said. "Yeah," Nick whispered. "No words could express how grateful we are for our second change at life." LaCroix replied. "True. Instead of going home to an empty loft or you, which is always a pleasure? I now go home to Molly." Nick said, smiling. "I'll go upstairs to Jamie." LaCroix said, warmly. "Here's to us and our future of true blessings." Nick said, filled with love. Just as they touched glasses, and drank to each other, Munzo managed to sneak in and stood by the edge of the bar. LaCroix froze and Nick noticed his eyes. "What's wrong?" Nick asked. "Unwelcome visitor." LaCroix answered. "Where?" Nick inquired. "Here, hello." Munzo answered. "What do you wish?" LaCroix asked. "Your decision," Munzo replied. "All right; do listen closely, I do not wish to repeat myself." LaCroix strongly suggested. "I'm listening." Munzo said. "I will remain with my family. Nick, Molly, Scott, my friends, and Jamie. I will take that journey back to light. You have nothing here to claim." LaCroix told him. Munzo scoffed slightly, "You can't be serious." "Oh, but I am, very serious." LaCroix said, firmly. "I won't accept this." Munzo hissed in anger. Just as Munzo was about to leap at LaCroix, a soft white shined from high above them. It covered Nick and LaCroix as they clung to each other. Munzo filled with fear of the light flew from the club and vanished. The light slowly faded and LaCroix felt slightly dizzy, and Nick held him until he regained his balance. They stepped back from each other and stared. Scott stood at the bar in amazement of what he witnessed. The room became silent and you could hear Nick breathing. "LaCroix," Nick uttered. "Nicholas," LaCroix said. Nick smiled, "You were touched." They slowly looked upward then back to each other with a smile. They embrace one another warmly and stepped back. "I agree." Nick said. "Same here," LaCroix said. "I'll be gone for two weeks. Watch or live in the loft with Jamie. We will discuss this when I return." Nick replied. "I will; safe trip. Lots of pictures, and yes, we will discuss this." LaCroix requested. "You bet." Nick agreed, happily. Nick warmly squeezed his arms and walked across the floor and outside. He climbed into the car and started the engine. He quickly drove home to Molly and pack for his trip. Nick pulled in and turned the engine off. He climbed out and locked it up for the night. He rode up in the elevator and entered his loft. He placed his things on the table and his gun in the small drawer. Molly came walking out and stood at the edge of the staircase along the railing. Nick saw her and climbed up the stairs into her loving arms. "Hi." Molly said, smiling. "Hi. This is the best way to come home." Nick replied. "I agree. What did LaCroix say?" Molly asked. "He's thrilled; actually, I think he cried." Nick told her. "Great. I'm so happy for him and Jamie." Molly said, sharing her heart. Nick smiled, "Me too." "Okay, we have a long trip to go on before reaching the Bahamas, so let's get some sleep." Molly suggested. Nick grinned, "I'm not that tired." "Oh, I can fix that." Molly replied, seductively. "I'm sure you can. Lead on." Nick said, smiling. They strolled into the bedroom and got ready for bed. They climbed under the covers and made love then slept for their journey. **************** The hours passed quickly and they were on their way for a cruise aboard the Disney ship to the warm tropics of the Bahamas. Inside LaCroix's room, Jamie was lying upon the bed with lit candles surrounding her. LaCroix walked in then closed the door and saw her. All she wore was a purple silk nighty. He approached the bed and sat along the edge then lied along side of her. "Jamie." LaCroix said. "Lucien." Jamie replied. "What's this?" LaCroix asked. "How does Nicholas feel about us?" Jamie asked. "He gave us his blessing as I gave him ours for him and Molly. She moved into the loft with him." LaCroix told her. Jamie smiled, "Wonderful," "We even got a blessing from a higher power." LaCroix expressed warmly. "Higher power?" Jamie queried. "Yes." LaCroix whispered. "How do I look?" Jamie asked. LaCroix inhaled, smiling, "Delicious, and inviting." "Are you accepting?' Jamie inquired. "Oh yes," LaCroix said, seductively. "I love you." Jamie replied. "I love you, Jamie." LaCroix said, lovingly. They embraced warmly and loved each other for the day then rested. Nick and LaCroix truly received the warmest blessing ever. Now, the true journey begins. THE END
