"After all it's not everyday you get to plan your parents 75th anniversary party." "Oh all right!" Nic replied. This one she would not win. Donni was right; most couples barely make it to 50. But Nick and Nat weren't most couples. They were the most devoted pair you'd ever meet. Always have been and always will. You see Nick and Nat are Immortal. Their love will last forever. Nicholas de Brabant Knight met Dr. Natalie Ann Lambert in the spring of 1990. They were married seven years later. At the time Nick worked for Metro Homicide in Toronto and Nat was the youngest coroner in the city's history. Nick was 767 years old and Nat was 28 when they met. A deep friendship developed and somewhere along the way they fell in love. They married in Belgium near where Nick was born, in the providence of Brabant. Nat, believing that Nick could not father children, naturally got pregnant. They were the happiest soon-to-be parents. Nine months later Richard Alexander de Brabant was born. Named for Natalie's brother Richard and Nick's mother Alexandra, Alex was the light of his parents' lives. They were blessed again the following winter when Nicole Anne and Donni Grace were born. Shortly after the girls were born Nat joined her husband in the Vampire Community. Nick's sire/father Lucien LaCroix was not too happy when his wayward son embarked on this 'Mortal folly' of marriage to Nat. That is until his grandchildren came. You could not have asked for a more doting and devoted Grandfather. Nic holds a special place in his heart. The children were born Mortal, but were given the option of becoming Vampires when they got older. All three took up the option. Nat had only one request. That they live as Mortals until they were 30 years old. Just incase they married and wanted children of their own. Alex held out to his 35th birthday, Nic and Donni when they were 30. Alex is tall like his father with curly auburn hair and deep blue eyes like Nat. Nic is the spitting image of her daddy, where Donni who was named for Nick and Nat's best friends Don Schanke and Grace Belthazar, looks like Nat with reddish blonde hair. They are a tight knit family, so when it came time for this mile stone anniversary it was no surprise that Donni wanted to throw a party. She also saw to other important events in the family. She is the sentimental one, and the one who treasures her Humanity much like Nick. Spring dawned in Wales with the hope of life anew. Nick and Nat were in Paris visiting LaCroix. He was feeling a little melancholy; he hadn't seen his son or his grandchildren for quite some time. And Nat loved Paris in the spring. With her parents safely out of the way Donni started laying out her plan. She first called LaCroix to see if he could keep Nick and Nat busy awhile. "Not a problem my Sweet. I shall keep your father and mother quite entertained." "Thanks Pappy! You're the best!" Donni cried. Donni was the ONLY one to get away with calling 'the General' Pappy. She then enlisted Alex. He was to go and gather up as many things as he could find from Toronto circa 1990's. He found his mother's CD collection, some movies that were popular at the time, and a painting that Nick had done of her. While Alex was searching in one of the numerous storage bins he found the 'infamous blue shirt'. He picked it up and decided to take it home. 'Won't Mom be surprised!' he thought. He rummaged around some more and got enough things to remind his parents of their courtship days. He had an idea and called Donni. "Hey Sis! What do you think of moving this party across the Pond? I found some really great stuff and I thought that maybe we should open the loft and use it for the party. What do you think?" "Oh Alex! What a great idea! Maybe we can get Pappy to help get them over there." Nick and Nat had always held on to the loft. It was one of the few places that ever felt like "Home". Alex lived there for awhile when he was in school. It was a very special place to him; it was where he was born. So it was no wonder that he wanted to go there. Now how to get the happy couple there. Maybe his sister could help, she could be very deceiving when need be, just like her grandfather. Nic was at home reading the latest trashy romance novel, 'You'd think in 100 years they could come up with something better!' she thought. Didn't matter, she read them all! Especially Vampire romance. "Maybe I should write one. I definitely could be a little more factual." She said with an evil grin on her face. "Write one what?" Alex asked when he came in the room. "Oh, nothing Big Brother. Just thinking out loud. What brings you here on such a fine night?" Alex sat down on the over-stuffed sofa next to Nic. Looking at her like the cat that ate the canary he said, "Donni wants to throw Mom and Dad a party..." "I know that!" Nic interrupted. "Hold up; let me finish." Alex said rather irritated. "What do you say to having it in Toronto?" Asked Alex excitedly, with the same boyish grin as his father. Now he had Nic's attention. She cocked her eyebrow. "You mean at the loft? Ooh, how romantic is that?! What a great idea! Now how do we get them to go all the way to Canada without a good reason and blowing the surprise?" Nic asked, her face all lit up. "Donni seems to think Grandfather will help." Replied Alex. "Great I'll call her and get this plan in gear." She replied as she reached for the phone. End Part 01 The Anniversary Part 02/10 See disclaimers in first post. Donni was busy getting people lined up to go and open the loft. She just hoped that most of the furnishings were still in the warehouse. She was on the third call of the night trying to get some poor mover to understand that this all had to be done after hours. "Yes, I understand this will be over time." She replied. "Yes I can pay it. Please send the bill to the de Brabant Foundation in Toronto. Thank you, I will be there in two days." 'Geez, movers are a grouchy bunch' Donni thought. 'Oh well, more plans to make and people to call.' Next she called LaCroix. "Hi Pappy! Change of plans. Do you think you can get Mom and Dad to go with you to Toronto?" "And what pray tell for, mon enfant?" Asked the General. "Alex thinks it would be nice if we could take them back to their courtship days. I think it might be fun. And you know what a romantic Nic is." "Indeed," LaCroix answered. "As I remember it, those years in Toronto truly were 'the worst of times and the best of times' to quote an old friend. Just what would you like for me to do?" "Is Aunt Janette still in Montreal? Maybe we could say how she really wants to see them and then have to stop over in Toronto." "I see you have thought this out. I'm impressed. Such deceit is usually done by your sister. There is hope for you yet." LaCroix purred. "To answer your question, yes Janette is in Montreal. Perhaps she can be of better assistance than I can." "Ok, I'll give her a call. Thanks Pappy. I love you!" LaCroix, still after all these years was uncomfortable with such open displays of affection, replied, "As I do you." Later in Paris, Nat was out shopping on the Boulevard Hausman at Galerie Lafayette. She was having a great time buying the latest in spring fashions. Nick was taking in an art exhibit at The Louvre. They were running a Monet exhibit. Nick always did enjoy Monet's work. They agreed to meet later at Apres l'Obscurite the newest hotspot and the Community's haven. Nick was waiting when Natalie arrived laden down with the evening's treasures. It didn't matter how long they would live; she would always take his breath away when she entered a room. "Hi, my beautiful wife," Nick said silkily, "did you leave anything behind?" "Hello, to you too my handsome husband." Nat replied planting a peck on his cheek. "Yes I left *some*. Did you miss me?" 'God' Nat thought. 'I will never tire of looking at him.' "I always do." Nick replied as he placed a soft kiss at the nape of her neck, while inhaling her scent. "Then let's go home and you can show me how much, after you call the kids." Nat said over her shoulder as she walked over to the bar. "Right now you can buy me a drink." The bartender asked Nat for her order. "The lady will have the house special." Nick told him, making sure the fledgling knew whom she was with. They enjoyed their drinks, then loaded up all the packages into the car and drove out to their secluded chateau. It was a quiet ride. Each lost in their own thoughts. Nick wasn't sure what to do for Nat for their upcoming anniversary. He wanted it to be special. Little did he know just how special it was to be. They arrived home to the ringing of the phone. Nick and Nat looked at each other and said at the same time, "The kids!" And laughed. Nat walked over to the table and answered the phone. She was surprised when she heard her father-in-law's voice on the other end. "Oh, hello Lucien. I was expecting one of the children." "I am so sorry to disappoint my dear Natalie. Shall I call at another time?" LaCroix asked. "No. It's all right; Nick will just call them later. Is there something I can do for you?" Nat asked with reservation. There was *always* something he wanted. "Well as a matter of fact there is something. You see I was thinking of going to Montreal to see Janette. And I was wondering if you and Nicholas would accompany me." This caught Nat by surprise. LaCroix wants them to go on a trip with him. Usually he only asked Nick to go. She would have to think this over. "Can I discuss this with Nick and get back to you?" She asked. "Of course my dear. I only ask that you let me know as soon as possible so that I can make the necessary arrangements." LaCroix answered coolly. "Of course." Nat replied. "Good bye, Lucien." "Good night, Natalie." "Who was it Nat?" Nick asked as he came in the room. "LaCroix. He wants us to go on a trip with him to Montreal to see Janette." Nat answered as she hung up the phone. "Montreal? My, he is feeling a little neglected isn't he?" Nick replied sarcastically. "I don't see a problem with going to Montreal. We haven't seen Janette for ages. Should be a nice trip. You always liked Canada in the springtime." Nick pulled Nat into a close embrace. "Why don't I call LaCroix back and tell him to make the arrangements." He placed a gentle kiss on Nat's forehead. "All right, Nick." Nat answered warily. "I'm going to take a shower. Don't forget to check in with the kids." "I won't. Enjoy your shower." He playfully swatted Nat on the butt as she left the room. He then went to call his father. LaCroix answered his phone knowing who it was. "Good evening, Nicholas. How are you this evening?" "I'm fine LaCroix. Nat tells me you mentioned wanting to see Janette. I think that is an excellent idea. When would you want to leave?" Nick asked with curiosity. "Well, I was hoping to be there in the next 5 to 7 days." "I think that can be arranged." Nick replied not realizing that his and Nat's anniversary fell in that time. "Very well. I will make the arrangements. See you soon Nicholas. Give Natalie my love." LaCroix replied with his usual aloofness. "Good night, LaCroix." After hanging up the phone, Nick tried to decide whether to call his son or join his wife upstairs. It was no choice really; he always wanted to be near Nat. Even after all of these years. But he had promised to check in. 'Besides, Nat is notorious for endless showers.' Nick thought with a lusty grin. 'I'll just join her a little later.' He dialed Alex's number. Alex answered on the second ring. "Hello? Oh hi Dad!" Alex motioned to his sister. Nic came over to listen. "How are things in France?" He asked trying to sound nonchalant. Everything's great Alex. How are things at home?" "Well, not much is happening. Nic is thinking of writing one of those trashy romance novels her and Mom like so much." With this Nicole slapped her brother playfully. Boy did he enjoy tormenting her! Nick smiled at the thought of his daughter writing a Gothic romance. He then asked concerned, "Have you heard from Donni? I thought she was going to be there with you." Nick always worried about her; she would always be his 'baby'. "No, she left last night. I haven't seen her yet tonight. Sorry. But I'll make sure she calls you when she gets home." Alex replied hoping not to alarm his over protective father. "Your grandfather called tonight. He wants your mother and I to accompany him to Montreal to see your Aunt Janette. We should be leaving by the end of the week." The more he talked about this trip the more it seemed like a good idea. He really missed Canada at times. Wales and France were nice, but Ontario would always be home. And if going to see Janette got him close, all the better. "That sounds like a fun trip." Alex said with a smile in his voice. "I wish I could go with you." "Why don't you?" Nick asked with a glimmer of hope. "I have too much to do here with work. Thanks for the offer though." Alex said. Work for Alexander de Brabant was as an Art History teacher at Eton. Art was a passion Alex inherited from Nick. His paintings had been shown through out the years, and were highly sought after by collectors. And since Nick knew most of the great artists he learned history from first hand accounts. With that they said their good nights. Alex and Nic were excited that this part of the plan went smoothly. They hoped Donni was having as good luck. She was. She arrived in Toronto just after sundown. The flight was uneventful and she slept most of the way. When she told the cabdriver to take her to 101 Gateway Lane, he thought he misunderstood her. "Are you sure of the address Miss?" The cabbie asked. "That's over in the warehouse district. And with it getting late and all..." "I'm well aware of where it is. Thank you. Now if you please, can we go?" Donni said with a touch of irritation in her voice. If the cabbie only knew that the petite 'Miss' in his car was a Vampire! Enroute to the loft Donni called the Raven to have supplies sent over. She was pleasantly surprised when a familiar voice answered the phone. End Part 02 The Anniversary Part 03/10 See disclaimers in first post. ADULT: Back in the French countryside, Nick finished his call to Alex and headed upstairs. Not surprised that Nat was still in the shower, Nick proceeded to close the shutters to the coming day and went to pour them some blood-wine. He lit some candles that were placed about the room. He also lit the fireplace. The room was quite large and furnished with beautiful hand carved Cherry furniture that Nat picked out on one of their trips to the States. The walls were a soft muted Mediterranean Blue, and the fabrics were in rich soft golden velvet, and green silks. The bed had soft ivory silk sheets. The whole room was designed to convey a cocoon like feel without being suffocating. After making sure everything was perfect, Nick went to join Nat. Nat let the hot water flow over her, easing away all the night's cares. As she relaxed she pushed into the link she shared with Nick and knew what he was doing in the next room. She felt him enter the bathroom and was waiting when he entered the glass-enclosed shower. The water felt good cascading down their cool bodies. This was the one place they could feel almost Mortal. The hot water warmed them to normal body temperature. Nick slid in behind Nat. As he gently kissed her neck he asked if he could wash her hair. This was something that he had always enjoyed doing. Nat of course said yes. She enjoyed it as much as he did. As Nick lathered up Nat's mane of curls, and massaged her head, the jasmine scented lather ran down her body. The slick foam made it easy for Nick to massage Nat from the base of her neck to the gentle curve of her breasts to her flat stomach and around to her firm bottom. This elicited soft moans of delight from Nat, which in turn fueled Nick in his attentions to her body. As the bubbles ran off, Nick blazed a trail of hot kisses down her. He massaged and suckled one breast then the other; sure to give them equal attention. As he made his way down her belly he ran circles around her navel with his tongue before he stopped at her patch of curls. He paused and inhaled her scent. Her extreme arousal was evident. Before he could taste of her ambrosia, she pulled him up to her. She then began her own assault on him, beginning with a deep passionate kiss. She kissed his face and neck, slightly nipping his vein. She caressed his well-muscled chest, teasing at his nipples with light flicks of her tongue. She nipped and kissed her way down to his manhood. She drew him into her mouth, and began the torturous slow decent down his shaft. She could hear a low growl of pleasure resonating in Nick's chest. As she gently sucked, she could feel that Nick was near his release. With every caress and kiss he became more aroused and wanted to bury himself deep inside her. To take her, to possess her. And her to possess him. No other woman in all of his years had been able to possess him. Natalie possessed him totally, and would forever. With their passion fully awakened, Nick shut off the water, picked up his eternal bride and carried her to their bed. Both of them soaking wet and not caring, they continued to kiss and caress each other until only one thing would sate their craving. Nick rolled Nat onto her back and raised himself up over her. "Do you want me, Nat?" He asked with his voice husky and his eyes golden and full of the lust that he held for her. "Will you surrender yourself to me?" He slowly lowered himself to her, as she gave the only answer she could. "Yes." And with that one word he entered her and total peace over came him. Their lovemaking was slow and sensual, no skin left un-caressed or un- kissed. As Nick loved his wife, the tension built in their bodies until the only release would be the sharing of their life's blood. As Nick and Nat lay in each other's arms, thoughts of their long happy marriage played across Nat's mind. She never in her wildest dreams thought she would ever love or *be* loved like this. By this man. Still relishing in their lovemaking, sleep overcame them. End Part 03 The Anniversary Part 04/10 See disclaimers in first post. "Raven." Answered the voice on the phone. "Auntie?" Donni asked with surprise in her voice. "Donni? Are you here ma petite? In Toronto?" A very pleasantly surprised Janette asked. "Yes! What are you doing here?" "Well, I was getting a trifle bored in Montreal, thought I'd check and see how Cristal was doing running the club. Even after all these years, I just can't seem to let it go." "I know. For all of your aloofness, you are a very sentimental woman." "That may very well be." Janette replied knowing that it was entirely true. "So with what do I owe this very pleasant yet unexpected call?" "I'm here trying to get things lined up for Mom and Dad's anniversary party next week. And I do have to eat..." Donni answered. "I'm here at the loft if you want to come by. I would love to see you. We have lots to discuss." "Very well, I shall bring you your supplies and we can spend the day together." "Great Aunt Janette! See you around 5:45 then." Donni replied. She was truly happy that she would get to spend some time with her aunt. Plus that was one less person to try and get to Toronto. Alex and Nic made their travel arrangements. Alex saw to the shipping of Nat's things to arrive at the loft. Only one other thing to track down, Nick's beloved 61 Caddy. Nothing like trying to find a 110-year- old car! 'Last I remember...I think it was stored in Chicago.' Alex thought to himself. Hopefully it was still there. He made the call. "O'Hare Long Term Parking. This is Bobby. How can I help you?" The voice on the other end asked. "Well I hope you can. My name is Alex de Brabant Chevalier; I'm looking for a car that is supposed to be stored there. It's been there for quite some time." "No problemo, what kind of car is it? And when was it stored?" Asked Bobby. "It's a 1961 Cadillac convertible, license plate Ontario 35H MV6. I believe it was stored sometime around 2002." Alex waited for the reaction that came next. "Dude, are you messing with me?" Bobby replied. "Is this some kind of joke?" "No, it's an odd request, I know. But could you please look for me? It is very important." "Hang on..." Alex waited what seemed like hours. Finally after about 10 minutes, Bobby came back on the line. "You're not going to believe this, but it's here! It seems it was stored here by a Mr. Nicholas Davies in September of 2002. The bill has been paid yearly. So as far as I can see if you have the ticket, we can release the car." Alex's heart fell. He hadn't thought about a claim ticket. Maybe a well-placed whammy would do the trick. "All right, I will be there to pick it up tomorrow morning early." He looked at his watch. This was gonna be close. "Thank you Bobby for all your help." Alex hung up the phone. He shouted out to Nic. "Gotta run Sis! I'll see you in Toronto in a couple of days." Nic came rushing in the room. "What do you mean 'gotta run'? Where are you off to now?" "I found the Caddy. It's parked at O'Hare. And if I'm going to make it without becoming a crispy critter then I have got to get out of here." "Oh in that case," Nic replied with teasing in her voice, "then you'd better hurry up." She kissed her brother on the cheek as he left. "See you at the loft!" Alex made it to Cardiff International in less than an hour, including packing. His flight from Cardiff to Chicago left at 5 AM. He would arrive at O'Hare at 7 AM. He was hoping that the sun wouldn't be up yet. The flight was uneventful and quiet. While he was airborne he made a few calls. He called an auto detail shop and arranged for the Caddy to be picked up from his hotel. He wished that he could oversee the detailing personally but it would be full daylight by the time he arrived at The Sheraton. He left instructions that the car was to be fully cleaned inside and out, all new hoses and fluids, and be back to him by 6 PM. Quite the task when you consider that it has been stored untouched for close to seventy years! Alex's flight touched down 20 minutes early, and he was through Customs in less than 30 minutes. This gave him the needed extra time to collect his dad's beloved car. When he got to the garage he found the same kid he had talked to on the phone. "Hi Bobby, I'm Alex. We spoke on the phone yesterday." Alex spoke as he held out his hand. Bobby shook it. "Yeah, I remember." Bobby said. "I went over and checked on her myself first thing this morning." "How does she look?" Alex asked with trepidation in his voice. "Apart from the dust on the cover, not too bad. I put some water and gas in it for you. I also had the night shift put a charge on the battery. I suggest that you go and have the motor checked over before you drive it anywhere. I noticed a little bit of oil under it." Bobby said with real awe for the antique. "I've already made the arrangements." Replied Alex with a grin. "This car has to be in Toronto and in mint condition in two days for a very special celebration." With that Bobby led Alex up to the next level of the garage, and in the back row, away from everything else sat Nick's Caddy. "Just as I remember." Alex whispered. "Pardon??" Asked Bobby startled. "Oh, I mean I have seen pictures of this car, and it looks just like I remember the pictures." Alex said not believing that Bobby heard him. "Well, if everything looks OK to you we'll go down and sign the release and you can give me the claim check." 'Oh shit.' Alex thought. He'd forgotten about that. 'I guess I will have to put a well-placed memory there.' Honing in on Bobby's heartbeat Alex told him, "I gave the claim check to you and we signed the paperwork." "Papers signed. Have a nice trip Mr. Chevalier." Answered Bobby. Alex signed the contract on Bobby's clipboard and he walked away. 'Now' Alex thought, 'I hope the keys are here.' as he flipped the passenger visor down and the keys dropped into his hand. "There you are." He was so glad that Nick thought to leave a key in case the garage staff had to move it. The car started on the third try. He had to hurry; he could feel the sun starting to rise. Good thing the hotel was only about five minutes away. Alex arrived in the underground parking just as the sun was cresting the horizon. He checked in, went to his room, and called the detail shop. By now he was very hungry and tired. A full days sleep would do him good. With that he took a quick shower, pulled a bottle from his bag and retired for the day. Alex was dreaming about his early childhood when the ringing of the phone woke him up. 'No, not yet,' he thought as the ringing was piercing his blissful sleep. 'Always happens at the best part.' "Hello?" Alex answered in his best 'you just got me up' voice. "Good evening, Sir." The voice on the other end replied. "This is the front desk. We have a gentleman here with your car." "I'll be right down. Please have my bill ready, I will be checking out. Thank you." "Very well, Sir." Alex was awake now, and very excited. He had never driven the Caddy until this morning and that didn't really count. The last time he had even seen it was when he was about 4 years old. He had asked his dad on more than one occasion if he could drive it and the answer was always the same. "No." Nick was a tad possessive of his car. No one had ever driven it except Nick until Schanke did. And the first time he did he wrecked it! Nick almost killed him about that. The only other person he ever trusted to drive it was Nat. So this was going to be a special drive for him. He hoped that Nick wouldn't be to mad. After a quick glance around the room, Alex grabbed his bag and left. 'This is going to be a great night!' he thought to himself. The drive to Toronto should take about 9 hours. Plenty of time to get there before sunrise. He paid the room bill and went to collect the car. When he got outside the sight before him left him speechless. The Caddy looked brand new! Gone were all the years of dirt, and all signs of any age. The interior smelled like saddle soap and mink oil. The chrome shined and the paint glowed. The guy from the shop beamed, and so did Alex. "Does she look all right? I did most of the work myself. But it wasn't like work. I enjoyed every minute of it, so did the rest of the guys in the shop. We don't get much call for vintage cars like this anymore." He said as he lovingly stroked the right fin. Alex was amazed. All he could do was stare. It was incredible what these guys had accomplished in 12 hours. "She's beautiful..." He gratefully paid the man, and thanked him for the awesome work he did. He knew Nick would be pleased. With that he started the car and headed for I-190. End Part 04 The Anniversary Part 05a/10 See disclaimers in first post. While Alex had tracked down the Caddy and drove through the night, Donni had been busy with her own chores. Janette arrived right on time. She rang the buzzer and Donni released the lift so she could come up with the supplies. What greeted her were a lift full of party supplies and a very beautiful raven-haired woman. Janette exited the lift and hugged her niece. "I am so happy to see you Donni. We do not spend near enough time together." "I'm happy to see you too Auntie! You're right we don't spend enough time together. Maybe when this party is over we can all spend some time on holiday, the whole family." Donni replied. She made her way to the kitchen. Over her shoulder, she asked, "So what did you bring me to eat?" She unpacked a crate with glasses in it. Wiping two off she placed them on the blue tile countertop. "I brought a very special vintage. It was procured from a couple on their wedding day. Voluntarily of course." This latter part was added as a joke because by now all blood was pretty much given freely. The two women chatted while they unpacked the crates of stuff that had arrived so far. Donni had the leather furniture cleaned and oiled before she arrived. The Oriental rugs were in place and now they were working on the kitchen. Donni knew where everything went from the stories she heard from Nat and Nick over the years, right down to the coffee under the sink. Her parents still kept a can of coffee under the sink at home just for that reason. She did too, although nobody knew it except her mom. Janette called to check on the Steinway. Donni had it sent to Kaufman and Sons to have it cleaned and pre-tuned before they brought it to the loft. It was ready, so they arranged a time for it to be delivered. The buzzer rang again and Janette looked to see who it was. It was Fed Ex with the crates from Wales that Alex had sent on. Janette let them up. Donni signed the invoice and they proceeded to see just what Alex had found. The first crate was long and thin. Neither Janette nor Donni knew what could possibly be in it. Curiosity getting the best of them, they opened it up. What was inside made both of their mouths drop in shock. It was the painting that Alex found. As she stood gaping at the painting unable to avert her eyes, she asked in a whisper, "When did Dad paint this?" If she could blush she would have. "I have no idea." Janette replied with amusement. What they were looking at was a portrait of a woman obviously painted with so much love and tenderness that you could almost feel it. The woman was Nat. She was painted lying on a black satin sheet surrounded by blood red rose petals, her hair splayed around her head like a halo of copper fire. Her skin had a warm glow to it. Her left arm was draped over her abdomen, and she was completely nude except for the ring on her finger, which Donni recognized as Alexandra's ring, now her mother's engagement ring. "Nicola never painted me or anyone else like that before! I didn't realize he had it in him!" Janette finally said when she found her voice. Donni was looking closely at the canvas hoping to find a date some where. She found it. In the lower left corner, so small as not to be noticed, was written in her father's flowing script, "Mon Natalie Bein-aime, Ceci est comment je vous vois veritablement Un jour peut-etre... A jamais, Nicholas 9 novembre 1995" (My Beloved Natalie, This is how I truly see you Someday maybe... Forever,Nicholas) "Just what am I supposed to do with this?" Donni asked her aunt. Janette still amazed at the beauty of the painting. "If I were Nicola, I'd want it where it was the first thing I saw upon waking and the last thing before sleep. Did you find a date?" "Yeah, November of '95. Does the date sound familiar to you?" "Oui, I was away at the time. It was when I first came to Montreal, and had met Robert." Janette replied with a note of sadness. Donni remembered the incident. It was a sad time in Janette's life. "LaCroix told me about it after I returned to the family. It seems that your father was shot in the head and believed dead. Some quick actions on your mother and LaCroix's part saved him from being discovered. What happened was he regained consciousness, but had no memory of who or *what* he was. Natalie brought him home to recover and from what I was told, that was the first time they made love." Donni's eyes grew wide with this new story of her parents' life. She knew of the shooting but not the specifics. Donni did know that sometime after the shooting Nick went through a very dark time. She wondered if this was done during his depression. She took Janette's advice on the placement. She took it upstairs to the bedroom, where she hung it on the wall next to the bedroom door. She knew Nick slept on his left side with his right arm over Nat. This way it would be in his line of sight from that position. It looked as if it was meant to hang there. The sizing was perfect. When she finished unpacking things and got the loft set she would call her brother. She returned downstairs to her aunt. Janette was sitting on the couch looking into the fire, but not really seeing it. She was thinking back on that sad summer and fall of 1995. Even after all this time she still missed Robert. It was her relationship with Robert that had made her understand everything that Nick felt for Natalie, and had brought peace to her and Nat. She didn't hear Donni come back downstairs. "Penny for your thoughts." Donni said quietly as not to startle Janette. "Oh, I was just thinking back to another time." Janette replied sadly. "Did you put up Nicola's painting?" "Yes I did, and you were right, as always. I wonder if where I hung it was where Dad had intended to hang it. It is just perfect there. Are you sure you've never seen it before?" "I am positive. I would have remembered something so beautiful. But it does not surprise me that I haven't. It is not, how should I say it, 'for public viewing'." "You're right about that!" Donni said with that 'if I could blush' look again. "Let's see what other treasures Alex found for us!" They looked in all the crates and put everything back in its rightful place. Donni noticed with a pang of sadness that the loft had a very lonely feel to it. "How could they have been happy here?" She said to no one in particular. Janette answered her. "They weren't the first five years. It was a constant struggle for them. To keep Nicola's secret and to hide the love they felt for one another for Natalie's safety. It was very hard. My leaving helped some, but it wasn't until LaCroix finally let the agreement between him and your father go that things started to change." Donni looked at Janette with a puzzled look. She was finding out so much about her parents past. Things she never knew happened. For all she knew they had a happy courtship. All this gave her a newfound respect for their love of one another. She hoped that someday she would be as lucky. They continued to go through Nat's things and put her CD's in the CD rack. Nic would have to hook up all of the electronics when she got here. Janette and Donni were taking a much-deserved break when the buzzer for the lift went off. Startled by the sound, Donni went over to the monitor to see who would be there at this time of night. She was happy to see the piano tuner. She went down to open the garage to let them unload Nick's Steinway. They loaded it into the lift and moved it into position in the loft. Mr. Kaufman then set about fine tuning the antique piano. After about an hour beautiful music was coming from the piano. He played Moonlight Sonata. Donni was lost in the memories the song recalled for her. Images of her and her sister sitting with Nick when they were about 3 or 4 listening to him play for them. The house was always full of music of all kinds when they were growing up. From Amadeus to Aerosmith, they listened to it all. When he finished Donni thanked Mr. Kaufman and paid him handsomely for his effort. With dawn rapidly approaching, Janette said she really needed to get back to the Raven. There were still things she needed to get for Nick and Nat's arrival. They would be here in two days, not much time to get the vintages she was looking for. She kissed her niece, and thanked her for the girl talk. She said she would be in touch if Donni needed anything else. With that she left through the skylight. She would come back after dark to get her car. End Part 05a The Anniversary Part 05b/10 See disclaimers in first post. Donni was both mentally and physically tired. She had a lot of new things to digest. She went to the refrigerator and got a fresh bottle of blood-wine. She took the bottle and her glass to the living room where she sat down to call Alex. She still had a ton of stuff to do but it would have to wait until this evening when Nic would arrive. Nic could help with the rest of the decorating. She had a much better flair for the fine touches. Donni was a lot like her name sake Schanke when it came to flair. She was very down to earth and subdued compared to Nic. 'A lot like Daddy and Uncle Donny that's me and Nic.' She wished she'd known Schanke and Grace. She drifted into a fitful sleep. She dozed for a couple of hours. When she woke up she felt a little bit better. So she figured she'd better call Alex before it got too late. Alex was just getting out of the shower when Donni called. "Hi Alex! How goes the Great Cadillac Hunt? Did you have any trouble getting it out of storage?" "As a matter of fact, I got the car with minimal trouble. Just a tiny suggestion to the lot attendant. It's at the detail shop now. I was just getting ready for bed. What's up? Everything going according to your plans?" Asked Alex. "Everything is going smoothly here. Aunt Janette came and spent the night with me. We puttered around here putting things away, and talking about Mom and Dad. It was a great way to spend an evening. Oh, by the way, Fed Ex came. Do you have anything to tell me?" Donni asked with a note of disdain. Alex thought it best if he played dumb. His sister didn't seem too pleased with him right now. "Oh! Did you get Mom's stuff?" "Yes I did Richard Alexander de Brabant! How could you send something like THAT and not let me know?" Donni lit into her brother with all she had. "Aunt Janette was with me when I opened it!! I'm sure it was not something she needed to see. Or that Mom would have wanted her to see.!" Alex felt guilty now. He should really have thought about that. She was right. No one needed to see that but immediate family. "I'm sorry Donni." Alex told her with as much feeling as he could convey over the phone. "I really didn't think anyone but you would see it. No one else has ever seen it, not even Mom." He felt he had betrayed his parents by being so careless. "I remember hearing stories when I was very young about a portrait Dad painted of Mom after his accident when he almost walked into the sun. Mom remembered seeing a canvas in the loft but Dad wouldn't let her see it. She used to ask about it once in awhile after they thought I was asleep, and always Dad would tell her that it was gone. That he destroyed it. The last time I heard mention of it I must have been 16 or 17. I didn't know it existed either until I was poking around looking for stuff for you." Donni cooled down some. "Alex why didn't you tell me?" "I don't know. But it is beautiful isn't it?" Alex asked his pride in his father's work evident in his voice. "Yes it is. I think it's one of the most romantic and sensuous paintings I've ever seen." Donni thought about asking if he had read the inscription, but decided to keep it to herself. "Now I understand the way he looks at her." "Me too. Puts a whole new spin on things doesn't it?" "Yeah, it does. Donni replied. "Look Alex, I'm going to let you get some sleep. You have a long drive tonight. Be careful. I'll see you in the morning." "Ok, Sis. I'll see you in the morning." With that they both hung up the phone and retired for the day. She had packed most of her new clothes she just bought in Paris. She hoped Janette would approve. She valued Janette's opinion on fashion. Nat was actually looking forward to this trip. What she wasn't looking forward to was traveling with LaCroix. As much as she appreciated LaCroix letting Nick out of the agreement they had, and the easy peace with which they lived, she still never really trusted him. She and Janette had buried the hatchet a long time ago. They had even managed to become friends. Quite a feat for both of them. Nick was right, they hadn't seen Janette for a long time. The last time she could recall was about 15 years ago. She didn't even mind that they would be spending part of their anniversary with her. She needed to finish up. Nick would be back soon. She still hadn't wrapped his gift. This year was harder than in the past. 75 years. The time had flown by. It was funny how they still celebrated each year. Like it was their first. She still felt like a newlywed. The passion and love she and Nick felt for each other never wavered. If anything, it grew with each passing year. That was why Nat had such a hard time finding something for her eternal love. But find it she did. It was before they left Wales. She had been looking in the small antique shoppes in Swansea when she found it. It was a painting of a lady bidding Godspeed to her knight as he was leaving for the Crusades. She had seen this painting before and it had reminded her of Nick. So when she saw it again she bought it. It wasn't particularly valuable; she just liked it and hoped Nick would too. Maybe she would wait until they got home. It would only be a couple of days later. That settled she finished her packing. She envied Nick; he could pack in about 20 minutes and not forget anything! Well he had almost 800 more years of practice. She dragged her bags downstairs, and headed for the kitchen and some dinner. Nick came in about 20 minutes later to find Nat perched on her favorite chair reading yet another romance novel. Nick just shook his head with a small grin on his face. "You know, your daughter is thinking of writing one of those." Nick said pointing to her book. Nat giggled, she could imagine the plot for *that* story! She put her book down and looked up at Nick. He kissed her forehead and down the ridge of her nose before hungrily seeking out her mouth. Nat would have to put a stop to this right now. "Nick...we have...to..." "I know..." He replied as he picked her up and carried her to their bed. 'So much for stopping.' Nat thought as she surrendered to him. Nick set her down at the foot of the bed, never breaking contact with her lips. He felt his heart beat twice in quick succession. The lust building rapidly. He reached up and buried his hands in her hair, he felt the silk like curls run through his fingers. Pulling her closer, deepening his kiss, he heard a small gasp escape from Nat as she surrendered to him. He continued to kiss down her neck feeling the blood running just under the surface. Nat wrapped her hands around his neck and pulled him to her breast, aching for his touch. He released her just enough to remove the black silk blouse she wore. He slid it down her arms as he kissed across her collarbone and down to her lacy bra. The blouse pooled on the floor. Nat then returned the favor and unbuttoned Nick's shirt. His joined hers on the floor. Nat caressed the hard planes of his chest, kissing where just a moment before her hands had been. She licked small circles around his nipples causing them to harden. Her attentions to him were driving him mad with desire. She was relentless in her pursuit of his pleasure. She gently guided him to the bed and had him lay back against the pillows scattered across the bed. She returned to his mouth and sucked on his lower lip eliciting a growl deep in his chest. Nat continued on her downward quest, nipping, sucking and caressing. When she reached his jeans she unbuttoned them with a slow maddening pace. As she looked up at Nick she saw the amber glow to his eyes. She knew he could not hold out much longer. But she was determined to bring him to the edge of reason first. She gently removed the rest of Nick's clothes. Nat stood and slowly removed the rest of her own clothes, never breaking eye contact. She could feel Nick's desire through their link. She kissed her way back up his muscular legs paying close attention to his sensitive inner thighs. Nat gently sank her fangs into the soft skin and took her first sip of his blood. When Nat punctured the skin Nick nearly lost control. "Nat... please..." "What is it you desire, my lord?" His breathing was ragged with lust. "You woman. I desire you. I want to feel you..." Nick gasped with what little restraint he had left. "Where do you want to feel me?" Nat asked her voice low with desire. "Here?" She clasped her hand around his very hard penis, stroking gently. She licked up the sensitive underside before she took him completely into her mouth. "Yes..." The word was barely spoken. "Nat...I...need you...I...need to...feel...you...around me..." Nick sighed as Nat suckled his cock. "You have me...forever." Natalie replied as she impaled herself on him. The contact was almost more than Nick could stand. He slid his hand down to Nat's most secret spot and massaged the nub he found hidden there. Nat cried out in sheer ecstasy as she could feel both hers and Nick's building orgasm. She rode Nick to the brink of sanity. Just before they both fell off the edge Nick rolled her onto her back, rose up on his knees, and raised her hips to meet his allowing him to go deeper into her. He pounded into her trying to reach into her very soul. "Nick; come with me, now!" Nat pleaded. She could not wait any longer. Nick reared his head back ready to take what was his. As he sank into Nat's pliant neck, he felt his own release coming. As Nat also sank her fangs into Nick the circle was complete. Everything they were, all they felt came crashing down in the most intense climax. Sleep overcame them quickly. They dreamed lovers' dreams, and relished in the love of one another. End Part 06 The Anniversary Part 07/10 See disclaimers in first post. Nicole arrived in Toronto just past sundown, the limo taking her directly to the loft. She entered the security code to the garage and lift. The garage was empty except for a few crates. 'I guess Alex isn't here yet.' Nic thought to herself. 'I wonder if Donni's up yet.' She quietly slid open the door and stepped into her parents past. Donni had done a perfect job of finding and placing all of Nick's old furniture. It helped that Nick and Nat were both sentimental pack rats! Everything looked exactly as it had 80 years ago. Nic was pleased, and she hoped that her parents would be too. She tiptoed over to the fridge to get some breakfast. Then headed to the sofa. That's where she found her sister, sleeping curled up into a small ball. She sat in the chair that faced the sofa and sipped her blood-wine. She hadn't been here for a very long time, not since Alex lived here. Yet it felt so comforting, like a loving embrace. She sat there daydreaming when Donni stirred. Not wanting to frighten her, she made a small tapping sound as she set her glass down on the end table. Donni opened her eyes slowly. When she caught sight of a leather encased foot she at first thought Janette had stopped by. Following the leg up to its owner, she was happily surprised to see her twin. "It's about time you got here! I was beginning to think I would have to do all of this my self!" Donni declared with mock disdain. She hugged Nic tightly. Nic returned the gesture. "Sorry about being late. It was unavoidable. I got stuck in New York for the day. Weather! Some sort of freak spring snow storm." Nicole said, not sounding any too happy. "But, I'm here now!! And ready to help in any way I can." Donni went to the kitchen to retrieve a glass of her own. The two women proceeded to have their breakfast and get caught up on the arrangements. As Nic sipped her blood-wine she asked her sister where it had come from. "Aunt Janette brought it over. It's exquisite isn't it? She's trying to find some more of a similar vintage for Mom and Dad." "I don't believe I've ever tasted anything this good." Nic replied savoring the taste of the two people who donated it. "Wedding day??" "Yes, and some of them will be anniversaries. Auntie thought it would be appropriate." Donni answered savoring her own glass. "That's why it is so rare. I hope she can get more of it." With breakfast finished the girls set out finish the fine touches to the loft. Alex should arrive by 5 AM. And they wanted to be finished when he got there. Nicole set out to hook up all of the TV and stereo equipment. 'What technological relics.' She thought to herself. 'But if it makes them happy, who am I to not be of service. Besides, who else could possibly do it?' The thought brought a smile to her face as she went about her task. While Nic was busy with the stereo, Donni headed upstairs to get the bedroom and bath ready. There really wasn't a whole lot to do. The room was sparsely furnished. The only things were a king size bed with an iron headboard, a black lacquer dresser and a pair of matching nightstands. Donni opened a new set of black satin sheets with red pillowcases and placed them on the bed. She then unpacked a black satin comforter that she managed to sneak out of the house before she left. She brought the one from home because she wanted the bed to feel like it was theirs, not like it was all brand-new. With that done she hurried into the bathroom. Ever since she hung the painting, she felt like a voyeur in their room. The bathroom was done in soft grays and had black granite countertops, a black Jacuzzi tub and a glass enclosed shower. Donni went about the task of putting new fluffy Egyptian cotton towels in the cabinet and a generous pile next to the tub. She then placed a few jasmine scented candles in various holders on the counter and around the rim of the tub. She even managed to find a way to get some in the shower. She unpacked Nat's favorite bath oils and soaps from home and placed them in their proper places. Satisfied with her work she headed back downstairs to see if she could help Nic. Nic was just finishing up with the stereo when Donni came back down. "All finished!" Donni announced with a happy sigh. "How 'bout you?" "Me too!" Nic replied. "What's next on your agenda?" "Well, I could use your help with the placement of some of the 'little things'. You know, like which pictures to put out, where to put some of Dad's special things. The things that made this 'Home'." "I can do that." Nicole said with a glint in her eye. After all she was an incurable romantic just like Nat. She rummaged in some of the boxes and pulled out some framed photos that were special to both of them. The picture of the Tovler's in Germany with the piece of 'The Wall' Lily had sent. A picture of Nat's beloved cat Sydney, a picture of Schanke, Myra and Jenny. A picture of Nick and Schanke getting their first 'Partners of the Month' Award and the last 'Partners of the Year' Award they got. Nic found a very old photo of Nick and Nat taken at the first precinct picnic Nick attended. She thought that this was the first picture of them together and that it deserved to be put in a special place. She headed up stairs. "Nicole! Wait!!" Donni cried to her, trying to stop her before she went inside. "AAHH! What *IS* that???" Nic cried upon entering the bedroom. "I tried to stop you. Sorry." Donni said softly when Nic came back downstairs. "That is Alex's present to Mom. I'll let him explain when he gets here." He'd better have a damn good one!" Nic said with barely concealed anger. "I need to get some air. I'll be back later. Didn't you tell me Aunt Janette is at the Raven?" Donni nodded her head. It would do no good trying to calm her down. Nic had to work this out herself. She knew what passionate people her parents were; she just didn't need to see it! Nic flew out of the skylight and into the night. Donni sat down to wait for her brother to arrive. The drive to Toronto was long and uneventful. Alex was really enjoying driving the Caddy. Every place he stopped drew appreciative onlookers. There weren't too many pre 2000 cars on the road any more. And this one was one of the last great cars from Detroit's Golden Age. He now knew why his father loved it so much. It was as close to flying as one could get. He drove with the top down all the way from Chicago. The night was cold but fortunately for him the cool air didn't bother him. He was relived and excited when he saw the CN Tower come into view. 'Not much further.' He thought to himself. He made his way through the pre-dawn traffic to Gateway Lane. He pulled up to the garage, parked the car and entered the code for the door. He pulled the Caddy into it's home and shut the engine off. He got out of the car, opened the trunk and removed a large bow that he got for the hood. That finished he headed for the lift. Donni heard the lift motor engage and knew it had to be Alex. Nic wasn't back yet, so she had time to prepare him for her wrath. The lift door opened and Alex walked into his childhood. The memories overwhelmed him briefly. He wasn't ready for the fantastic job his sisters and aunt had done. "Oh my God...you did it! You really did it! I can't believe it. It looks like we never left." Alex was awestruck. "How did you manage to do *all* of this?" "Well it helps to have a brother with total recall. And most of the furnishings were here in the building. I just hired someone to come and thoroughly clean everything, and Aunt Janette and I put most of it where it belonged. Nic did the electronics, and the placing of the knick-knacks and photos." "I am truly sorry about the thing with Mom's portrait and Aunt Janette. Do you think she can forgive me?" "Yeah, I think she already has. But Nicole is another story... She was none too pleased with you when she left this evening. I didn't get a chance to show it to her or even tell her about it. She kind of found it by accident." Donni replied sheepishly. "She'll understand once I tell her." Alex said. "Now what do you say to me taking you for a drive in Dad's car before I have to give it back?" "I think that would be nice. We can go to the Raven, have something to drink and pick up Nic before we retire for the day." "Sounds like a plan to me. Shall we go? Your chariot awaits." Alex teased. They rode the lift down to the garage. When Alex opened the door Donni saw for the first time Nick's second most treasured possession. There it sat in all of its San Remo Turquoise and Chrome glory. She had never been much of a 'gear head', but this car just might change her mind. Alex took the bow off the hood, and opened the door for his sister. He then slid behind the wheel and headed off to the Raven. End Part 07 The Anniversary Part 08/10 See disclaimers in first post. Nic was sitting at the bar talking to an unfamiliar man when they arrived. Alex approached her and planted a kiss on her forehead. "Hi Nic!" Alex said in his best suck up voice. "Who's your friend?" He noticed the Mortals heartbeat. "My 'friend's' name is Ryan." Nic answered coldly. "We were just discussing where to go for a bite." "I see..." Alex answered, noticing the gold flecks in Nicole's eyes. "Well, I won't keep you." "Good. I will return shortly." Nic nodded as she led her new conquest to the back of the club and the private rooms. Once in the rear of the building, Nic led Ryan to her favorite private room. She concentrated on his heartbeat. When she had him totally enthralled, she quietly whispered in his ear, "Surrender yourself to me. I shall show you more pleasure than you have ever experienced." Ryan was completely under her masterful spell. There was no doubt that his blood would be the sweetest nectar that Nicole had sampled in a very long time. It had indeed been a long time since she had any directly from the source. And this man's scent especially attracted her. As she neared the font that was his vein she could smell the sweet hot pepper mixed with desert juniper that was uniquely his. She felt her fangs lengthen, then sank them into Ryan. He had never felt such painful ecstasy. He wished it would never end as his world faded to black. While Ryan was still under Nic's control she took his memory of her, but not the pleasure he felt. That finished, she left the room to return to her family. When Nicole returned to the bar Janette was talking to Donni and Alex. "Enjoy your snack?" Donni asked. "Yes, very much. Thank you." "I understand you are a little angry with me." Alex said in a very 'forgive me' tone. "A 'little'?!" "I can explain, really." "Go on..." Alex then told Nic and Janette the same story he had relayed to Donni. You could see all of the anger just run from Nic's face and body. Even Janette seemed to understand a little better. "Just what do you think is going to happen when Mom and Dad see it in their room?" Nic asked quizzically. "Good question, mon amour. Don't you think you owe it to Nicola to at least let him be prepared?" Janette asked her impulsive nephew. Alex could see that his aunt was right. He did owe it to his father to prepare him. Now he had to figure out how he was going to do it. After all, they were due in Toronto tomorrow night. Everyone agreed it was time to say good night. Hugs and kisses were passed around and Janette saw them out. It was late and she retired for the day. They rode back to the loft in relative quiet. Nic did compliment Alex on the great job that was done on the Caddy but had little else to say. Alex dropped his sisters off with the promise of being back as soon as the sun set to help set up for the party. He parked the Caddy in it's rightful spot and re-placed the bow. He then took to the air and landed at his grandfather's apartments. Once inside he gathered up his courage and dialed Nick's phone. 'How do I tell my own father that I dug up one of his most treasured secrets, shipped it half way across the globe and that his daughters have seen it?' Alex thought to himself as the phone on the other end rang. He was startled out of his reverie by Nick answering the phone. "This better be good..." Nick answered very displeased that someone woke him up. "Hi Dad, Alex replied. "I'm very sorry to wake you. I forgot the time..." He almost let the word 'difference' slip. "I have a small problem. It involves my gift to Mom for your anniversary." Nick waking up now answered Alex. "It's OK. What did you get Mom?" "Well, it's not exactly what I got her...it's more like what I found for her." Alex replied sounding guilty. "Alex, it's early, and I can't follow your cryptic answers. Just spit it out. It can't be that bad!" "No, it's not bad Dad, its just...there's no easy way to put this." So Alex just said it quickly. "I found the painting you did of her. The one you said didn't exist. The one Mom begged you to let her see..." He let his words trail off. "You did WHAT? Alex how could you? I never intended for any one to see that! Most assuredly your mother!" Nick was shocked at what he just heard. "Where did you find it? What have you done with it?" "I found it in the basement of the house in the country. I was down there looking for some of my older works, and found it under a tarp." He hoped his father believed his little fib. "Dad I have never seen anything so beautiful, I just had to. I think Mom will love it! I also think it's time you quit hiding it. Besides, I can't undo what I've done. Donni and Nic agree with me. I just thought I would warn you so you have time to prepare yourself." "Your sisters have seen it too? Oh Alex..." Nick was totally exasperated with his son. But he also understood why he did what he did... He was right. It was time Nat saw it. Their anniversary was as good a time as any. This also helped solve the problem of what to get Nat. Nick rolled over and looked at his beautiful wife, who was still by some miracle sleeping. He gently caressed away a stray curl from Nat's face. She murmured in her sleep, he placed a kiss on her temple and got out of bed. Nick padded downstairs to get some breakfast. It was still light out. 'Nat should sleep another couple of hours.' Nick thought. He busied himself with last minute details and called LaCroix. "Good afternoon, Nicholas." "Good afternoon, LaCroix. Is everything ready for our trip this evening?" Nick asked. "Yes, all of the arrangements have been made. We will have to make one stop. I have Community business that needs to be tended to. I am sorry. It shouldn't take more than a day." LaCroix answered, deliberately closing the link between Nick and himself. "What kind of business? Where are we stopping?" "We will stop in Toronto. I have been told there have been some fledglings who are not abiding by The Code." "Did you make accommodation arrangements for Nat and I also? Or do I need to secure some?" "No, Nicholas. That won't be necessary. I have a limo that will pick me up and another for you and Natalie. I do apologize for not telling you sooner, but I only found out this afternoon. I hope this is not too much of an inconvenience." This was working out better than he had originally planned. LaCroix hoped his grandchildren were happy with his part in this little charade. Smiling to himself he told Nicholas he would see him later at the airport. "No it's not inconvenient. Thanks, LaCroix. We'll see you later." Natalie woke up around 3 PM. There was still some time before the limo came to pick them up for the ride to Orly Airport. Nat went downstairs looking for breakfast and her husband in that order. There were times she still missed her ritual of having a cup of coffee; this was one of those times. She was a little nervous about the flight with LaCroix this evening. Pulling out a mug, she poured herself some blood. The donor was a 20- year-old man, thinking about his recent trip to Australia and the surfing competition he was in. As Nat sipped her breakfast, she was enjoying the warm feeling she got from his time in the sun. She found Nick in the study. He too was having some breakfast. She noticed he had already showered and smelled wonderful. 'Down Lambert, you don't have time for any playtime right now.' She chided herself. "Hi Honey," Nat said trying to hide her hunger for Nick from him. "Are we all ready to go?" "Yes my Beloved. I was just waiting for you. Do you have everything you need?" Nick asked her as he gently kissed her lips knowing she wanted him. "Yes. I think so. If I forgot anything I can get it in Montreal." "About Montreal..." Nick said uncomfortably. "I called LaCroix this afternoon while I waited for you to get up. It seems he has some Community business he needs to tend to in Toronto. He said we should only be there for the day. He has made arrangements for us. I don't see it as a problem." "Oh. OK. Has he called Janette to let her know we will be late?" "I didn't ask him. I'm sure he did." Nick answered her as he wrapped his arms around her waist pulling her to him. He rained kisses across her face raising Nat's arousal. Just as Nat was about to divest Nick of his clothes, the car arrived to take them to the airport. The car was equipped with blackout windows to help protect Nick and Nat from the afternoon sun. As the driver loaded their baggage, Nick helped Nat into the car. They arrived at the executive hangar at Orly. The car pulled into the hangar allowing Nick and Nat to get to the Gulfstream V safely. LaCroix was already aboard. Once their luggage was loaded, the pilot got clearance for departure. Natalie read or slept most of the way across the Atlantic. Something about flying in a plane always made Nat sleepy. She was grateful for that. It allowed her to ignore her father-in-law for the duration of the flight. While Nat was napping, Nick called Nicole. "Hi Daddy! Where are you?" Nic answered. She was glad to hear from Nick. Now, she hoped she didn't blow it. The excitement of the coming night was getting to her. "Somewhere over the Atlantic. I called to let you know that your Mom and I won't be home for our anniversary this weekend. Your Grandfather wanted us to accompany him to see your Aunt Janette." Nick told her, even though he knew Alex probably already let her and her sister know. "That's OK Daddy. I'm sure we will survive. We can have our celebration next week. Kiss Mom for me. Have a good time. We'll see you when you get home. Don't forget to kiss my favorite aunt for me. I love you! Ciao!" With that she hung up the phone. Nick looked at his phone with a slight grin and small shake of his head. Nicole could be a whirling dervish at times. The rest of the flight was passed with Nick and LaCroix playing chess. Nat awoke about 30 minutes before they landed. "What is this Nick tells me about trouble in Toronto?" Nat asked sleepily. "Nothing to worry yourself about my dear." LaCroix replied. None of his usual superiority evident. "It seems some of the young ones are not abiding by The Code. As I told Nicholas earlier, this shouldn't delay us more than a day. I hope you don't mind." "No, that will be fine." "Good. I have made arrangements for you and Nicholas for the day. I think they will be most comfortable." LaCroix said with genuine sincerity. This altruistic side of LaCroix was rarely seen. Nat accepted it without reservation. The pilot announcing their decent into Pearson came on a few moments later. Upon arrival they were escorted to the private terminal and to Customs. They were all cleared a short time later. There were two cars waiting when they exited Customs. A sleek Jag for LaCroix and a stretch limo for Nick and Nat. One thing about LaCroix, he *always* had the best. For himself and his family. They parted company, with LaCroix promising to see them later. The driver helped Nat into the car with Nick behind her. Nick asked him where they were going, but the driver would not tell them. All he would say is that Mr. LaCroix had arranged for everything to be taken care of. "He also said to wish you both Happy Anniversary." This last admission surprised Nat. Normally LaCroix could not be bothered with such trivial things. She was now beginning to get suspicious. As the car exited the Don Valley Expressway at Dundas St E, Nick had a very familiar feeling. If he didn't know better they were headed for the loft. Nick turned to Nat with a puzzled look on his face. "Nat, do you have any idea why we would be headed straight for the loft?" 'I haven't a clue. There shouldn't be anybody there." Nat said with as much confusion as Nick. As they were puzzling over the whys, the car pulled up in front of the warehouse. Nat looked up and saw the shutters open. "Look Nick, someone's here." Just then the driver approached the rear of the car and opened the door. Nick stepped out into the cool Toronto evening, inhaling the scent of Lake Ontario and home. "Isn't this some mistake?" He asked the driver. "No Sir. This is exactly where I was told to drop you off. Is there a problem?" "No. Just very unexpected." Nick replied as he helped Nat from the backseat. "Just let me get the garage open and you can put the bags inside." He walked over to the punch pad next to the roll up door, entered his code, and turned to hand the man a generous tip. What he didn't see as the door opened Nat did, and she let out a shocked gasp. At the sound of Nat's sharp intake of breath, Nick turned around, only to be completely blown away by what he saw. End Part 08 The Anniversary Part 09/10 See disclaimers in first post. Alex, Nic, and Donni heard the garage door engage. "I wonder if it's them?" Nic asked as she went to the window to look down on the empty lot below. Alex and Donni followed. What they saw made all three of them smile. It was finally coming together. All of their hard work of the past week was coming to fruition. "What the...?" Nick said when he saw what was sitting in the garage. "How...? Nat do you know anything about this?" "I am at as much of a loss as you. I have no idea what's going on." Nick walked slowly up to his beloved Caddy, reaching out to slowly caress the car's fine lines. He ran his hand up the fin, across the top edge of the door, and down the hood. "I haven't laid eyes on this since..." "2002." Nat finished his sentence for him. "When we had to leave Chicago. Alex was about 5 and the girls were 3. I didn't even realize you still had it. How do you suppose it got here?" Nick lost in all of the wonderful memories, didn't hear Nat. "Nick?" "What? Oh sorry. Just a lot of fond memories coming back." Nick replied his eyes still on the car. "What was it you said?" "I asked, 'How did it get here?'." Nat was now approaching the passenger side. She was almost as fond of this car as Nick was. She too had a lot of memories tied to this car. "I don't know Nat. No one knows about this except a few people." While Nick and Nat were trying to solve the mystery of how a car gets from Chicago to Toronto, Cristal pulled up with two cases of the rare vintage Janette procured for them. "Hi! You must be Janette's brother, I'm Cristal. I run the Raven. I was told that you would be here." She said as she unloaded the cases from her car. "This is a gift from Janette. She said for you to enjoy this, and she would see you in Montreal. She regrets not being here herself, but she wanted you to celebrate in private." She placed them in the lift. "Thank you very much Cristal. I'm sure we will enjoy it." Nat told her as she went to hug Cristal. "I will call Janette and thank her personally." "See ya." Cristal called as she walked back to her car. "I don't know about you Nat, but I'm dying to get upstairs and see who is in our house." "Let's go then. I'm very curious too!" Nat said as she got into the lift. Nick engaged the motor and the lift began its ascent to the loft. When they heard the lift motor engage, Donni, Alex, and Nic's hearts all beat three times with excitement. They turned off all the lights, and lit the candles and fireplace. They then went to stand back in the shadows to watch. When the lift reached the loft and Nick slid open the door, Nat let out her second gasp of the night. Everything looked exactly as it had 1997. They half expected Schanke to come out and welcome them home, like he did from their honeymoon. Nick and Nat both were in a state of total disbelief at what they saw. "Who did this Nick?" Nat asked as she roamed around looking at all of their most treasured things "I have a pretty good idea. Let me make a quick call." He pulled out his phone and dialed Nic's phone. The ringing startled all three of them, and when Nick heard it too he knew he had their mystery solved. He hung up his phone when he saw Nic come out of the shadows under the stairs. "Hi Daddy." Nicole said with the same tone that she used when she was small. "Do you like it?" "Hi Daddy." Donni too came out. "We tried to think of something different for you and Mom." "Hi mes filles." Nick pulled his daughters into a loving embrace, kissing each in turn. "Nous l'aimons. Vous ne nous auriez pas pu donner un meilleur cadeau." ( Hi my girls. We love it. You could not have given us a better gift. ) If Donni and Nic could have blushed they would have. They left Nick's hug to go to their mother's side. "Do you really like it?" Nic asked Nat. "Yes I do." Nat replied with a catch in her voice from the tears that she was trying not to shed. Alex took this time to come out from his spot in the shadows. "Hi Mom." Alex wrapped his arms around Nat in a fierce hug. "Hi mon fils. I see you have been busy." Nat said as she kissed his cheek. "Just a little..." Alex replied with great pride. "Donni did most of the work; Nic and I just helped out where we could. It was her idea to surprise you and mine to surprise you *here*." "Well, you did that all right!" Nick said joyfully. "My car...how...?" "I remembered that when we left Chicago, I went with you to put the Caddy in storage. It was the first time you took me flying that I can remember. So it kind of stuck." "I'm glad you remembered." Nat continued to re-familiarize herself with their shared past when she found the picture of Syd. Her eyes misted over immediately. The tears she had been holding since she stepped out of the lift now fell freely. She was overcome with the warm, pleasant feelings that were running through her mind. "Where did you find all of this?" She asked her children. "A lot of the furnishings were still here in the building, the rest we all found digging in various bins, attics, and basements. Lucky for us you two are pack rats!" Donni said with a wide grin. Nicole went over to the entertainment center and started the CD player. Soft classical music filled the loft. Nat and Nic were engaged in a quiet conversation. Alex thought he would take this opportunity to pull his dad off to the side. "Can I talk to you for a minute, Dad?" "Sure Alex. What's up?" Nick beamed at his son. Alex led him upstairs, hoping no one would notice. "I think I really need to apologize to you for what I did with Mom's painting." Alex said hanging his head, as he sat on the edge of the bed. "It's all right. After we hung up I thought about what you said. You are right, she does need to see it." As Nick finished his sentence, he noticed it hanging exactly where it belonged. "How did you know to put this here?" "I didn't. Donni hung it. Aunt Janette told her that you would want it to be the first and last thing you saw. Donni knows that you always sleep on your left side, so, this was the logical spot." "It is." Nick replied as he pulled his son into a warm embrace. "Thank you. It means more than you know." "I have a good idea just how much." Alex turned and opened the closet. "Here. I think you might want this. I think that we should have a drink to celebrate and then all good little girls and boy will duck out and let you and Mom enjoy your anniversary." "You don't *have* to leave, Alex. Mom and I would love for you and your sisters to stay." "It's OK. Really. We'll catch up to Grandfather and Auntie. Then we will see you in a couple of days." Alex replied as he headed down stairs. Nic was in the kitchen preparing drinks for everyone as Nick and Alex came down. Nick sided up to Nat and whispered in her ear, "Do you know you have the most wonderful children?" "Yes, I do and I also have the most wonderful husband. Thank you Nick for letting me be your wife, and for giving me these wonderful children. It is an honor I still treasure to this day. And I will treasure it forever." Nat whispered back as she nuzzled Nick's neck. "Ahem, excuse me, but I think we need a toast!" Donni exclaimed. "This is Aunt Janette's gift to you." She gestured to the blood in the crystal glasses. "May you love each other more today than yesterday, and less than tomorrow!" They raised their glasses, and drank from the special vintage. Donni was happy that Janette was able to get more. They talked and shared memories of Nick and Nat's marriage, when Alex announced that he and his sisters were leaving. "Don't go Alex." Nat pleaded. "We all just got here. I want to spend some time with all of you." "Don't worry Mom, we'll catch up in a few days at Aunt Janette's" Nicole told Nat with a mischievous glint in her eye. "Besides, who wants their kids hanging around in their anniversary night?" Donni replied. "I guess there is no winning this with you guys!" Nat said in resignation. "OK. We will see all of you in Montreal in say...three days?" "Sounds good to me." Alex piped up. While Nat was trying to convince her kids to stay, Nick quietly went back upstairs to retrieve what Alex had given him earlier. Sliding out of the maroon silk shirt and slacks he was wearing he put on the blue one and a pair of black 501's. While changing his clothes he heard the kids making their excuses for leaving and Nat's protests. He then heard the door to the lift slide open, kisses being passed around, and the door sliding shut. He crept down the stairs silently, all the while never taking his eyes off Nat. Pushing into the link he had with his children he told each of them how much he loved them and thanked them for his anniversary gift. Nat kissed each of the children as they entered the lift to leave. When they had gone she realized that Nick was nowhere to be seen. She walked over to the ornately carved fireplace and stared into the flames. She felt Nick behind her and turned to see him leaning on the railing at the bottom of the stairs. What she saw took her breath away. He was wearing her favorite outfit. The one she had not seen in a number of years. "You look wonderful! Where and when did you do that?" "Thank your son. I don't know where or how. He just handed them to me when we came up here earlier, saying 'I think you might want this.' He was right." Nick told her with his boyish grin that Nat could never resist. "Now since it is early, how would you like to go for a drive down by the lakefront? I seem to have the perfect car for starlit drives." "That sounds like a great idea!" Nat said with the same glint in her eye that Nic had earlier. "I'll get some glasses, and we can have some more of this wonderful blood-wine Janette got for us." "Shall we go then?" "Race ya to the car!" Nat squealed excitedly. End Part 09 The Anniversary Part 10/10 See disclaimers in first post. ADULT: They drove through the deserted streets of Toronto. It felt so good to be here again. Nick drove over to the 96th and by the Coroner's Building. Nothing had changed much, which was a comfort. "Nat? Do you mind if we make a stop before going to the lake?" Nick asked kissing Nat's hand. "No of course not. Where do you have in mind?" "I'd like to stop and see Schank for a minute. Even after all this time I still miss him." "I think he would like it." "Thanks Nat." Nick gently squeezed her hand. They drove over to the cemetery, parked and walked over to Schanke's grave. Nick stood there motionless for a minute, just thinking about his best friend. For two people who couldn't stand each other when they first partnered up, they ended up the closest of friends. Schanke was there as best man when Nick married Nat, was the Godfather to all three of Nick's kids, and the only Mortal outside of Nat who knew him for what he was and didn't care. Nick didn't think he would ever have another friend like him. A soft hand slipping into his pulled Nick out of his memories. "Sorry Nat, I just felt I had to come. To tell him thanks and that I love him." Nick said with a hint of melancholy in his voice. "Come on, I promised you a starlight drive." They drove the rest of the way to the shore of Lake Ontario. Nick drove to a very secluded spot and parked the Caddy. Nat got out and grabbed the bottle and the glasses from the backseat. She perched on the hood of the Caddy. Nick came around to the front of the car and leaned against the hood, looking up at the clear Ontario sky. Nat poured them each a glass of blood-wine, and handed one to Nick. "You know, this night reminds me of the night we got married. The weather is exactly the same." Nick said longingly. "It should. It was exactly 75 years ago this night that I vowed to be your wife forever." "Is it?" Nick turned to Nat, now standing between her legs and snaking his arms around her waist. "And I seem to remember vowing to be your husband forever." He pulled her closer to him. "A toast...To my most beautiful wife, I pledge to love you." "And I pledge to love you, my most beloved husband." They drank their wine. When they had finished Nick took Nat's glass and set them off to the side. "Happy Anniversary Natalie de Brabant." "Happy Anniversary Nicholas de Brabant." Nat put her hands around Nick's neck and buried her fingers in his hair pulling him down to her, sealing their renewed vows with a deep and loving kiss. Nick returned her kiss with fervor. He wrapped his arms around her waist pulling her hips closer to his growing erection. Caressing his way up Nat's back with one hand to wrap it in her auburn hair, the other sought out the buttons of her blouse. Natalie's hand too sought out the buttons of Nick's shirt. Once she had it open she caressed the hard planes of his chest. Nick slid the straps of Nat's bra down her arms following with his tongue. He retraced the path back up her arms to the hollow of her neck. Inhaling her unique scent and her arousal, he then kissed his way down to the cups hiding her aroused breasts. Kissing her through the satin, he brought his hands around to un-hook the front and caress her now exposed breasts. He worked each nipple to a hardened peak between his fingers before suckling each in turn. Deep moans of pleasure came from the depth of Natalie's chest urging Nick to continue his ministrations. Nat leaned back on the hood, using her arms for support, laying her head back exposing the soft flesh of her neck to the stars. Nick continued his decent to Nat's flat stomach, licking small circles around her belly button. He ran his tongue around the top of her jeans. He ran his one hand down her body to the waistband and slowly drew the zipper down. His other hand caressed her throat and traced the out line of her lips. Nat drew his fingers one by one into her wanton mouth, sucking each their full length. Nick gasped at the sensation this was giving him, which only fueled his need to become one with Nat. He stroked his way down her hips, gently lifting her just enough to pull the jeans off. With great surprise, and thankfulness he realized Nat did not have any panties on. With her shoes and jeans now off, Nick finished what Nat had started. He slowly unbuttoned his jeans, never releasing Nat's gaze, and slid them over his hips. Now totally nude before her Nat took in the glorious sight of him. He kissed his way up her long shapely legs, stopping to pay special attention to the backs of her knees. He resumed his torturous climb to her most treasured place. She was beautiful in the now fully risen moonlight. The scent of her driving him on. He parted her folds and stroked her nub with his thumb sending chills of pleasure up Nat's spine. She was aching to feel him but he was out of reach. He slid first one finger into her then another feeling her slick juices. Thrusting gently into her he raised her up to that precipice she longed to fall off of. He caressed her with his fingers as he entered her with his tongue. He drew her essence into himself, losing himself in the sweet nectar that was his and his alone. As Nat neared her first release Nick sucked harder bringing her to the edge and finally pushing her off. Only to be brought back up again as the waves of orgasm receded. Trailing hot kisses up Nat's body to her waiting mouth, Nick crushed his lips to hers in a searing passionate kiss. With Nick finally within reach, Nat grasped hold of his engorged shaft. Lubricating him with his own juices, Nat began to slowly stroke him with one hand and massage his balls with the other. Realizing that Nick was on the edge of his own cliff, Nat guided him to her waiting core, and with a quick thrust Nick was buried into Nat. He let out a moan of pure ecstasy. He stilled himself within her until he could no longer stand it. Then slowly, deliberately he began to move within her. The pace was maddening for Nat. She raised her hips to meet every thrust trying to increase the rhythm to no avail. Nick was determined to prolong their ecstasy/agony as long as he possibly could. When he thought neither one could take anymore he increased his depth and rhythm. As they both climbed to the top of their passion, their bodies glistening in the moonlight, Nick reared his head back and with one final thrust reached the very center of Nat's being. Sinking his fangs into Nat's waiting neck, and Nat sinking hers into him, the world around them exploded into the sweetest pain. They rode the tide of their climax out and shuddered in the release. Both of them spent, Nat whispered into her husband's ear, "You'll never guess how long I've wanted you to take me like this." "Really," Nick whispered back, "You'll never guess how long I've wanted to take you like this." Still laying over Nat. "I feel the sun getting ready to rise. Maybe we should move this party back home. I still have one more surprise for you." "More surprises? You'll spoil me." "That's my plan." They gathered up their clothes, and drove back to the loft. Upon entering they were greeted by 74 of the most beautiful red roses and one lone white one. Nat walked over to the card standing in front of one of the vases. It read: "My Dearest Natalie, Thank you for loving my son and returning him to me. I was a fool to stand in your way. Please accept these as a token of my unending gratitude. May you love for all Eternity." Nick came up behind her. He didn't need to read the card. He could read the meaning on Nat's face. "Well this is a night of surprises!" Nat quickly brushed a single tear from her cheek. "I still have to give you your last one. It's actually from Alex. He made me understand that I should have done it long ago." Nick confessed to Natalie as he led her across the loft. "I don't understand. What could Alex possibly give me that you should have?" Nat asked puzzled. "Let me show you..." Nick took her upstairs to their room. "Wait here for just a second, I want this to be perfect." Waiting outside their bedroom, Nat was getting more anxious by the minute. Nick came to her and led her to their room. It was lit with candlelight and scented with jasmine. She saw that everything here too was as it was. She sat down on the bed and motioned for Nick to sit with her. He chose instead to kneel in front of her. "Nat, before you turn around, there is something I want to say." Nick took a deep breath and clasped both of Nat's hands. "What I'm about to show you I never had any intention of doing. It was my own way of dealing with what I thought was an impossible situation. I had originally intended for it to be found after I watched my last sunrise. My final gift to you. But with your faith in me and in us, it wasn't impossible. The vision I had has come true a thousand fold and I will never have to move on without you." A single blood tear escaped from Nick's blue eyes. The pain Nat saw there was almost more than she could bear. It was quickly replaced by the love that was always there. She turned and looked for the first time at her portrait. What she saw was all of the pent up love and passion that dared not be released. It was the truest expression of everything Nick had ever felt for her. She knew it had to have caused him great pain to paint. "Nick...is this...the painting that I begged to see?" She asked through her tears. "Yes." "Why did you hide it? It is the most beautiful thing you have ever given me." "I don't know. When Alex found it I was furious. But he said I had no right to hide it from you. And he was right. I should have given it to you." Nat walked over to her painting and lovingly ran her hand over the canvas. She saw the writing in the corner and bent down to read it. When she stood she turned to Nick and asked, "Is it?" Nick holding Nat's face in his hands, his lips a breath away from hers, answered, "Yes." "A jamais, Nicholas." "A jamais, Natalie." `````````````````````````A jamais Nick and Nat````````````````````````` KnightCrusader 25 juin 2004
